Clear number for the German record champions?

On 10 March 1979, with a beside himself Karl-Heinz Rummenigge substituted in the 65th minute, Arminia Bielefeld beat FC Bayern by a surprisingly clear 4-0 margin at Munich’s Olympiastadion. It was the East Westphalians’ only win in 18 Bundesliga away games at the German record champions so far and also the only Munich home game in which the Reds went goalless against Bielefeld.

More than 42 years later, there is precious little to be said for another Arminia away win, although things have been going quite well of late. The East Westphalians picked up four points out of a possible six from their last two league games. Nevertheless, in the run-up to the encounter between Bayern and Bielefeld, the odds are swinging in the direction of the home side.

It should be noted, however, that the East Westphalians have improved considerably, especially offensively. In the last five league games in a row, Arminia have always scored at least one goal of their own. Considering that the Bayern defence has not always been stable and has not kept a clean sheet for six league games, it makes a lot of sense to bet on goals on both sides in Bayern vs Bielefeld.

Bayern – Statistics & current form

Although FC Bayern München strolled impressively through Group E of the Champions League with five wins and 19:3 goals, which also included a 2-1 away win at Dynamo Kiev on Tuesday night.

Overall, however, things have not always gone smoothly in recent weeks. The crushing 5-0 defeat in the DFB Pokal at Borussia Mönchengladbach is still reverberating, making it clear that another cup final will take place in Berlin next summer without Munich’s participation.

Lost three of last ten competitive matches

Meanwhile, there was a surprising 1-2 defeat at FC Augsburg last weekend, which shrank the lead over Borussia Dortmund in the table to one point.

Curiously, the Reds lost their second consecutive league match at FCA against a team from the bottom half of the table. The last time this happened to the German record champions was in the 2006/07 season, and they currently have a total of three defeats on record in their last ten competitive matches.

13 goals conceded in the last six competitive matches

It is also striking that the Reds’ defence, which now also lacks a key stabiliser in Joshua Kimmich, has allowed a remarkable amount. In the last six competitive games alone, the Munich side have conceded at least one goal and have conceded a total of 13 goals in this period.

Of course, the FCB are clear favourites against the second-last team in the table.

Bielefeld – Statistics & current form

Arminia Bielefeld were promoted to the Bundesliga in the summer of 2020 and ultimately managed to stay in 15th place after improving under Frank Kramer in the second half of the season. Now the East Westphalians are facing a complicated second season after several departures and many changes on the transfer market.

First of all, the East Westphalians had a bad start to the season, losing only one of the first five league games, but failing to win the first game of the season with four draws. The black-and-white-blue team scored just five points out of a possible 30 in their first ten league games.

The saving shore is in sight again

Just before the international break, however, the knot finally burst for Kramer’s eleven, who recorded a 1-0 away win at VfB Stuttgart.

A result that was confirmed with another strong performance in the 2-2 draw against VfL Wolfsburg last weekend.

As a result, the East Westphalians picked up just one point less from their last two league games alone than they had from their first ten games and reduced the gap to the relegation place to one point. The saving shore is thus once again in sight.

Have scored every time in the last six competitive games

The reason for the upswing is the fact that the offence is once again on target. While the defence has only conceded 18 goals in the Bundesliga, only three goals were scored in the first seven league games.

However, since at least one goal has been scored in the last five league games and even in six competitive games in a row, including the DFB Cup, the team seems to be functioning again after massive teething troubles. The odds on Bayern scoring at least an away goal at the Allianz Arena against Bielefeld are accordingly good.

Predicted line-up of Bielefeld:
Moreno – Laursen – Nilsson – Pieper – Brunner – Vasiliadis – Prietl – Okugawa – Schöpf – Wimmer – Klos

Last matches played by Bielefeld:

1st Bundesliga
11/20 2021 – Arminia Bielefeld 2 – 2 Vfl Wolfsburg

11/06 2021 – VfB Stuttgart 0 – 1 Arminia Bielefeld

10/30 2021 – Arminia Bielefeld 1 – 2 Mainz 05

DFB Cup
10/26 2021 – Mainz 05 3 – 2 Arminia Bielefeld

1st Bundesliga
10/23 2021 – Arminia Bielefeld 1 – 3 Borussia Dortmund

Bayern – Bielefeld Direct Comparison / H2H Balance

Head to head: 28 – 5 – 5

38 times both teams have faced each other so far and with 28 wins the FCB clearly leads the direct comparison. The Reds have only lost one of their 18 Bundesliga home games against the East Westphalians, against whom they have always scored in their last 15 matches. The last encounter at the Allianz Arena, meanwhile, ended in a spectacular 3-3 draw on 15 February 2021.

Bayern – Bielefeld Tip

For Bayern against Bielefeld, the prediction must take into account that on the one hand, the Reds have lacked defensive stability here and there and have always conceded goals in the last six competitive matches alone (13 in total). On the other hand, Arminia have overcome their attacking problems and have always scored in their last six competitive matches.

After all, the last meeting between the two teams in February this year resulted in a spectacular 3:3 draw at the Allianz Arena, so overall the bet on both teams scoring is very well placed.
