Stolpern die Eisernen auschnet in Augsburg?

While FC Augsburg, with only a three-point lead over the relegation place, must continue to fear for membership in the Beletage of German soccer, 1. FC Union Berlin, in third place in the table, is still on a direct course towards the Champions League. If the betting on an away win for the Eisernen at Augsburg against Union Berlin pans out, the capital city team could possibly even catch up with the two top teams Bayern and Dortmund once again.

However, a prediction on the three-goal win for the Köpenicker against Union Berlin is not at all under a good star. In eleven competitive games against the Fuggerstädter, the Eisernen have only managed a single victory so far (six draws, four defeats). The last two Bundesliga games at the WWK Arena also brought the Berliners a defeat in each case. The task for the surprise team of the 2022/23 season is correspondingly difficult.

Betting against the Köpenicker only because of their record, however, would also be presumptuous. After all, Union Berlin has only lost two of its 15 league games in the 2023 calendar year (eight wins, five draws) – the duels with the two top clubs Bayern and Dortmund. Consequently, the Eisernen will not travel to Augsburg without a chance, especially since Urs Fischer’s team has the best defense in the Bundesliga with only 31 goals conceded.

Precisely because the three-way system in this match is nevertheless very complicated and results such as 0:0 are by no means ruled out, we find the greatest value in betting that a maximum of one team will score in this interesting duel.

Augsburg – statistics & current form

Fc Augsburg has been an uninterrupted fixture in the Bundesliga since the summer of 2011. The Bavarian Swabians climbed in this time window to 28th place in the perpetual table of the Bundesliga and even managed to qualify for the Europa League once.

For the most part, however, FCA’s everyday season consisted of a relegation battle, which was also always accepted and successfully fought in the last five years in a row. Five times in a row, the Fuggerstädter ended up only in the bottom third of the final table, but were always also able to avoid relegation each time.

Only four points out of a possible 21 from the last seven league games

Even in the 2022/23 season, Augsburg still have a three-point lead over the relegation place, which they will have to maintain over the final four matchdays. However, the fact that it is still so close is also due to the fact that the results have failed to materialize in a row recently.

FCA has not recorded a win in seven Bundesliga games (four draws, three defeats). Only Hertha BSC scored fewer points (two) than the Bavarian Swabians (four) in the same period, who also failed to win the important home games against Schalke and Stuttgart most recently (1-1 in each).

Won five of 15 Bundesliga home games

While nothing has gone their way away from home recently, at least the Fuggerstädter’s home record is basically in order, although only Hertha BSC (four) have recorded fewer home victories than FCA (five).

Against this backdrop, too, the betting odds are against Enrico Maaßen’s team for Augsburg against Union Berlin, who will have to do without eight injured players at once. That makes the task of forcing a turnaround against defensively very strong Köpenicker anything but easy, especially since the Bavarian Swabians are the Bundesliga club that fired the fewest shots in the 2022/23 season (only 318).

Union Berlin – statistics & current form

The 1. FC Union Berlin has already caused a lot of furor in the Beletage of German soccer in the last two matchdays. Whenever you thought the capital club had reached its peak, the Eisernen were ready to reach for even more distant stars.

The reckoning will not be made until the end of the season. With 56 points from 30 league games and an eight-point lead over sixth place, however, the Köpenickers should not be able to avoid qualifying for Europe again. The only question now is which competition it will be in the end.

In five attempts still without an away win in Augsburg

At the moment, the signs are even pointing to the Champions League, although there are still a few complicated games to get through in the three-way battle with Freiburg and Leipzig, which Leverkusen could also join in on in the future.

In particular, the away trip to the WWK Arena is such a difficult match for Union Berlin. In Augsburg, after all, the Eisernen have so far never been able to record a three-goal win in five guest matches (two draws, three defeats). It is therefore risky to bet on an away win for the capital city team against Union Berlin.

Only lost two of 15 league games in 2023

Also overall, the Köpenicker conceded all six defeats of the 2022/23 season away from home, where, however, 23 of 27 possible points were taken from the remaining nine games. Overall, Union Berlin’s away record is also impressive.

The Eisernen have an extremely solid defensive record to show for it. The 31 goals conceded in 30 games is the best figure in the league and is the main reason why the Capitals are so difficult to beat. In 2023 alone, Urs Fischer’s team has lost just two of its 15 league games (eight wins, five draws) – the two away games at Bayern and Dortmund.

Augsburg – Union Berlin Direct comparison / H2H balance

Head to head: 4 – 6 – 1

Eleven meetings have taken place between the two teams so far and so far FC Augsburg has lost only one of those eleven competitive matches against 1. FC Union Berlin (three wins, three draws). At home in the WWK-Arena, the Fuggerstädter recently celebrated two wins in a row against the Eisernen. Meanwhile, the first leg at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei ended 2-2.

Augsburg – Union Berlin tip

The odds on Augsburg against Union Berlin are in favor of the visitors. So far, however, the Eisernen have not been able to win any of their five guest games at the WWK Arena (two draws, three defeats). Moreover, the home-strong Köpenickers have already lost six of their 15 Bundesliga away games in the 2022/23 season, and are now guests of a team that also has a much easier time at home than away from home.

It is correspondingly difficult to make a prediction on the outcome of the match between Augsburg and Union Berlin, especially since the Bavarian Swabians are also under pressure with a tense situation in the bottom of the table and could really live with a result like 0:0. We therefore recommend betting that a maximum of one team will score.
