Will Gladbach win away?

A duel from the bottom half of the table will take place on Saturday afternoon at the WWK Arena. Augsburg receives Gladbach. According to the odds, the favourite role lies with the guests from the Lower Rhine, who landed their first win of the season in the previous week with a 3:1 victory over Bielefeld and thus breathed a temporary sigh of relief. However, four points from just as many games is not a completely satisfactory result for Hütter’s charges.

The upcoming opponents from the Fuggerstadt would be happy if they had four points on their account. So far, however, FCA have only two points to their name. Especially at home, things are not going well at all for Weinzierl’s team. While the Augsburg side have conceded twice away from home, they have already conceded eight goals and two goals in their own stadium.

With this in mind, a prediction of a three-goal win for the visitors between Augsburg and Gladbach is quite obvious at first glance. This thesis is supported by the fact that the Fohlen have only lost one of their last nine Bundesliga games against FCA But that defeat came in the pre-season at the WWK Arena. A bad omen for the rematch on Saturday afternoon?

Germany Augsburg – Statistics & current form

In the less than glorious draw for the first coach dismissal in the Bundesliga this season, Markus Weinzierl, coach of FC Augsburg, still has very good cards. Behind Pal Dardai from Berlin, the ex-Schalker is currently the second hottest candidate for the first sacking.

From a purely sporting point of view, this assessment by the bookmakers is quite understandable, as the start of the season has not gone according to plan for the Fuggerstädter so far. After four matchdays, FCA is still waiting for its first win. The relegation candidates have at least managed two draws away from home in Frankfurt and at Union Berlin, but have suffered heavy defeats at home against Hoffenheim (0:4) and Bayer Leverkusen (1:4). Statistically, the current second-to-last team in the standings has made its weakest start since 2015/16.

High run-up is not rewarded so far

The attacking harmlessness is particularly problematic, as no other team in the German top flight has scored fewer goals than Niederlechner and Co. This is surprising in that the southern Swabians have already provoked 42 ball wins in the opponent’s half and are third in this ranking behind Frankfurt and RB Leipzig. It’s just a shame that in only four of the 42 cases mentioned above did a corresponding conquest lead to a goal.

In view of the fact that nothing has gone right at home so far and that self-confidence seems to be extremely limited due to the lack of wins and the lack of efficiency in forward play, we are far from betting on the home side in the Augsburg vs. Gladbach match.

Predicted line-up of Augsburg:
Gikiewicz – Gumny, Gouweleeuw, Oxford – Framberger, Dorsch, Iago – Hahn, Caligiuri – Vargas – Niederlechner.

Germany Gladbach – Statistics & current form

So far, coach Adi Hütter, who came from Frankfurt, has not yet been able to give his team the recipe for success that it needs to be at the top of the league. On the one hand, the somewhat bumpy start can be explained by the many absences due to injuries. On the other hand, the Austrian coach simply needs more time as Rose’s successor to instil his ideas in the players’ heads.

Traditionally, victories are the best way to accelerate the development process. That’s why the 3:1 victory against Arminia Bielefeld the previous week was also enormously important for the next few weeks, even though it was again not really glamorous or dominant. With four points, the Foals have climbed up to eleventh place in the current table, which is still not very meaningful; after Saturday, they will be aiming to climb to the top half of the table for the first time.

Hütter with unblemished record against Weinzierl

In order to justify the prediction of an away win for the Rhinelanders in the Augsburg vs. Gladbach clash, it is also worth taking a look at the head-to-head record of the two coaches. The only two meetings in 2018/19 were won by Hütter against Weinzierl. The current FCA coach was still in the employ of VfB Stuttgart at the time; Hütter was under contract with Eintracht and led his Frankfurt side to two straight 3-0 victories. Will his record against his esteemed colleague remain pristine after the weekend?

In order for the odds on the eleven from the Lower Rhine to pay off between Augsburg and Gladbach, the recent away weakness must be worked on above all else, as four of the last five guest games in the Bundesliga have been lost across the season. At FCA, there has only been one win in ten league games. Too much money on a three-goal win for the supposed favourites should therefore be avoided. However, five or six units out of a possible ten are absolutely justifiable in our eyes.

We have already mentioned the tight personnel situation. In addition to the eternal unlucky Doucoure, the absences of Thuram, Lainer and national player Hofmann weigh extremely heavily. It is also questionable whether Bensebaini will be fit in time. Otherwise, Adi Hütter would probably go for a five-man backline with the youngsters Scally and Netz in the back. Further forward, hopes rest on Lars Stindl, who has not been involved in as many goals against any other first division club as he has against FCA (six goals, five assists).

Predicted line-up of Gladbach:
Sommer – Beyer, Ginter, Elvedi – Scally, Zakaria, Netz – Neuhaus – Herrmann, Stindl – Embolo.

Augsburg – Gladbach Direct comparison / H2H-Balance

This is the 21st time the clubs have faced each other in the Bundesliga. Currently, the record is absolutely balanced with six wins for both teams and already eight draws. However, Gladbach have only celebrated one of the aforementioned six victories in the Fuggerstadt.

In the recent past, however, the pointer has tended to point in the direction of the team from the Lower Rhine, which has lost only one of the last nine encounters (four wins, four draws). Also interesting: In five of the most recent six encounters, both teams have scored at least one goal.

Germany Augsburg – Gladbach Germany Tip

Two teams who certainly cannot be satisfied with their start to the season so far will duel at the WWK Arena on Saturday at 15:30. While FCA, with two draws and two defeats, are currently in penultimate place in the standings, the form curve of the visitors from the Lower Rhine is at least showing some signs of improvement thanks to the 3:1 victory against Bielefeld the previous week.

This is one of the reasons why lower betting odds are being offered on an away win between Augsburg and Gladbach. Adi Hütter, who incidentally won both meetings with his opposite number Markus Weinziel in the Bundesliga, is primarily banking on the new self-confidence as well as the appealing record that only one of the last nine duels against FCA was lost.

The fact that the Fuggerstädter have lost both home games so far and conceded a total of eight goals against Hoffenheim and Leverkusen also speaks in favour of a success for the Foals. The uncertainty is great, which is why we do not trust the home side with much at the weekend.
