Will the Azulones surprise in the little derby?

Getafe CF have lost just one of their last 13 competitive games (six wins, six draws) – a 2-0 defeat at Las Palmas, when they were outnumbered for almost an entire half. Just last weekend, however, the Azulones celebrated a brilliant 3-0 away win at reigning Europa League winners Sevilla. It is therefore by no means out of the question that Atletico Madrid’s bet on the team from Madrid’s suburbs winning a point against Getafe will also work out

After all, Atletico Madrid have just suffered another setback at the weekend. The Rojiblancos lost 2-0 away to Athletic Bilbao and have now lost two of their last three league games. Nevertheless, the bookmakers’ odds for Atletico Madrid against Getafe clearly favor the Colchoneros, who have won all eight home games in La Liga so far with 19:8 goals.

Atletico Madrid have also always had the edge in the small Madrid derby. The Rojiblancos have not lost a single one of their last 23 derbies against Getafe (19 wins, four draws). However, in their last home game at the Estadio Metropolitano, the Colchoneros were held to a 1-1 draw by the Azulones. In fact, Atletico have not won any of their last four home games against their city rivals by more than one goal.

Of course, we are not ruling out a home win for Diego Simeone’s home-strong team and generally underestimate Atletico’s role as favorites. However, we definitely believe that the in-form Getafe CF will at least score the away goal, which is why our betting recommendation is for the visitors to score over 0.5 goals

Atletico Madrid – Statistics & current form

Atletico Madrid remain firmly established in La Liga’s top four under long-serving coach Diego Simeone. Under the Argentine, the Rojiblancos have won two national championships, the Copa del Rey once and the Europa League twice.

However, the Colchoneros won their last trophy under their successful coach in the summer of 2021, when they won the league title. The last time they finished eleven points off first place was in the 2022/23 season. However, the capital team at least qualified for the Champions League again, where they won Group E unbeaten with 14 out of a possible 18 points

The best home team in La Liga

The Rojiblancos’ enormous home strength was also the key to their progress in the top flight, winning all three home games in Group E by 11 goals to 2. In La Liga, Atletico Madrid lead the home table just as convincingly. Simeone’s side have won all eight home games in the 2023/24 season, scoring 19 goals to 8.

So it’s no wonder that the bookmakers’ odds for Atletico Madrid against Getafe are now also clearly in favor of the Colchoneros, who are unbeaten against the Azulones in 23 Madrid derbies (19 wins, four draws). However, Atletico’s last home game against Geta was a 1-1 draw on February 4, 2023

Lost two of their last three league games

A look at the weekend also shows that, despite Madrid’s home dominance, this home game will not be a walkover. The Rojiblancos lost 2-0 to Athletic Bilbao on Saturday. This means that Atletico Madrid have lost two of their last three league games without scoring.

Defensively, too, the Colchoneros are no longer quite as solid as they were in their golden days in the second half of the 2010s. 16 goals conceded in 16 league games is the third-best figure in La Liga. However, Atletico have only kept a clean sheet in two of their last ten La Liga games.

Predicted line-up of Atletico Madrid:

Getafe – Statistics & current form

Getafe Club de Fútbol could have celebrated its 100th anniversary this year. However, predecessor club Sociedad Getafe Deportivo – founded in 1923 – was disbanded almost 20 years later before a handful of players re-established the club in February 1946.

The club from the Madrid suburb, as it is known today, has only existed since 1983, but has become a real perennial La Liga contender since the noughties. Although they have only finished 15th in the last three seasons, the Azulones are now competing in the top flight of Spanish soccer for the seventh year in a row. Geta has even been first-class in 19 of the last 20 years

In touch with the international starting places

At the moment, under Pepe Bordalás, who once led the club to the Europa League in 2018/19, they can look upwards again. Having lost just one of their last 13 competitive matches (six wins, six draws), the players from the Madrid suburb are currently within touching distance of the European places.

Just last weekend, the Azulones also secured an impressive 3-0 away win at Sevilla FC, following on from their 1-0 home victory over Valencia. Getafe have already collected 25 points from their first 17 league games

Only won one of nine La Liga away games in 2023/24

Despite this, Atletico Madrid’s next point against Getafe is not a good bet for Bordalás’ side. That is not only due to the aforementioned drought in the Madrid derby against the Rojiblancos, against whom Geta have not won another three-pointer in 23 matches (four draws, 19 defeats), but also due to their poor away record.

In the 2023/24 season, the Azulones have won just one of their nine league games so far (four draws, four defeats) and have already conceded 16 goals away from home. This means Getafe come to the Estadio Metropolitano with the fourth-weakest away defense, but have also scored twelve goals away from home, which is the fifth-best figure in La Liga.

Predicted Getafe line-up:

Atletico Madrid – Getafe head-to-head comparison / H2H result

Head to head: 27 – 9 – 4

The small Madrid city derby between Atletico and Getafe has taken place a total of 40 times so far and with 27 wins, the Rojiblancos lead the direct comparison with a win rate of 67.5 percent. The Colchoneros have only been beaten four times by the small suburban club, against whom they have gone 23 derbies in a row without defeat (19 wins, four draws).

Atletico Madrid – Getafe betting tip

The odds are clearly and unmistakably in favor of the home team for Atletico Madrid against Getafe, which is a very risky assessment in our eyes. Of course, the 23 derbies in a row without defeat against the Azulones (19 wins, four draws) are just as important a factor as the Colchoneros’ La Liga home record, having won all eight home games in the 2023/24 season by 19 goals to 8. However, it should not be forgotten that Getafe have only lost one of their last 13 competitive games (six wins, six draws), when they were practically outnumbered for an entire half.

The Azulones have only failed to score once in their last eight competitive matches and once in their last four derbies against the Rojiblancos. The prediction for Atletico Madrid v Getafe is that the visitors will score at least one goal at the Estadio Metropolitano
