Sevilla want to get back on track

In Spain’s highest division, La Liga, matchday 3 is now upon us. Sevilla FC started the season with big ambitions, but there is not too much of that after two games played.

Because: The start of the season raised some questions. But there were good reasons for them. Ahead of the Almeria vs Sevilla game, however, the betting odds still show the visitors as favourites. However, with a good start, this would certainly have been clearer.

Now Sevilla must try to find top form as quickly as possible, so that the connection to the top is not completely lost. The Andalusians have the chance to do so at Almeria. Kick-off is on Saturday at 10 p.m.

Almeria – Statistics & current form

Almeria with coach Rubi is one of the newcomers in La Liga, as the team was promoted to the second division in the summer. Consequently, the goal in the new season is already obvious, for Almeria it is solely about staying in the league. In the first two games of the new season, the team already showed its suitability for the league, although only one point was earned.

That came on the last matchday away to Elche. Almeria signed some interesting players in the summer, including Leo Baptistao, Alejandro Pozo and the young Kaiky from FC Santos. The team was not able to make any big transfers, which is certainly not typical for a promoted team.

On the first matchday, Almeria already showed how this team can pose problems for bigger teams. At home against Real Madrid there was only a narrow 1:2 defeat. Almeria were well-positioned, kept on scoring forward and were unlucky that Alaba’s stroke of genius ensured that the game went to the royals after all. Almeria have only lost once in eleven games this season, which is also due to their strong promotion season.

Almeria: Very strong at home in the promotion season

Almeria had a very good home record in the previous season. The Spaniards won 14 of 21 games at home last season. In addition, only 15 goals were conceded in the home games. A good defensive performance was therefore largely responsible for the team’s success in the higher league and can also be a very good and important factor for staying in the league.

Almeria have not conceded a goal in five of their last nine games. The automatisms are there, as spectators noticed in the first two games. This also gives them hope that a surprise against Sevilla could be possible. In both games in La Liga so far, Almeria have scored a goal of their own.

Precisely because the visitors have offered something so far, Almeria should have a realistic chance of a good result. Compactness is of course the be-all and end-all and is also demanded by coach Rubi. Due to the omens and the teams’ qualities, our prediction before the Almeria vs. Sevilla match is that less than 2.5 goals will be scored.

Sevilla – Statistics & current form

Sevilla FC’s ambitions are definitely high every season. In the summer, however, the Andalusians bought away two important defensive players, Diego Carlos and Jules Koundé. These losses were noticeable at the beginning of the season, when Sevilla had some problems. After two games, the interim result is rather sobering.

After an opening defeat against Osasuna, the most recent result was a 1-1 draw against Real Valladolid. The connection between offence and defence and vice versa is still a cause for concern. Newcomers like Isco, Nianzou or Telles still have to be integrated. This requires patience, which Sevilla only has to a certain extent, because the next few weeks will be tough with the start of the Champions League.

But once the elements on the field have found each other, Sevilla will have a very good squad. Despite all this, there has only been one win in the last seven competitive games, so there is a need to catch up on success. The next opponents after Almeria are Barcelona, Espanyol, Villarreal and Atletico. So it certainly won’t be any easier.

Sevilla wants to get out of the doldrums

To make matters worse, Sevilla have also offered significantly more away than home in terms of points dropped in pre-season. There were only six victories away from home, while the Andalusians won their home games twelve times. Only defensively Sevilla was very good with 13 goals conceded in 19 away games, but offensively the engine faltered with 17 goals.

A win at the promoted team would therefore be an important sign for Sevilla. Of course, the visitors have the quality to defeat such an opponent, but they have to get it on the pitch. Having a full week of training should have helped the team. Therefore, before the Almeria vs. Sevilla match, our value tip is that the visitors will win this match.

Predicted Sevilla line-up:
Bono – Jesus Navas, Nianzou, Marcano, Alex Telles – Delaney, Jordan, Rakitic – Ocampos, Papu Gomez, En-Nesyri

Almeria – Sevilla Direct comparison / H2H balance

Almeria – Sevilla Tip

Almeria have very good stability in their own game for a promoted team, but that is only half the battle. They still lack penetrating power and the ability to weigh up when it’s worth taking risks

Opponents Sevilla have lacked consistency in recent months. In addition, there have been changes in the defensive control centre. Due to the omens, our tip before the Almeria vs. Sevilla match is that less than 2.5 goals will be scored.
