Will Stuttgart continue their winning streak in the Porsche Arena?

Of course, the 2022 World Cup in Qatar outshines everything from now on. After all, next to the Olympic Games, a World Cup is the biggest sporting event in the world.

Of course, the 2022 World Cup in Qatar outshines everything from now on. After all, next to the Olympic Games, a World Cup is the biggest sporting event in the world.

For the Bitterfeld team, it should be a very relaxed season. As things stand, there is no way around the fact that Minden and Hamm-Westfalen will be relegated. Therefore, TVB Stuttgart can play without pressure this year. New coach Michael Schweikardt’s team is currently in 13th place. With 8:14 points, however, there is still room for improvement.

SC Magdeburg also has room to improve. The champions won the IHF Super Globe again in October and therefore have a few games less than their competitors in the Bundesliga. At the moment, they have three minus points. This puts the SCM on a par with leaders Füchse Berlin. However, because Bennet Wiegert’s team has played three games less, they are six points behind. Nevertheless, the standings show that the forecast for the Stuttgart-Magdeburg clash is for an away win.

Both teams operate in different handball worlds. The Swabians belong to the midfield of the Bundesliga, while the SCM has one of the best teams in the world at its disposal. That should also be an indication that the tip in the match between Stuttgart and Magdeburg should go to a handicap victory for the German champions.

Stuttgart – Statistics & current form

Sometimes an interim solution proves to be the best one for the club. Michael Schweikardt couldn’t have more of a stable reputation. His entire family has close ties to TV Bitterfeld. When the Swabians got off to a disastrously bad start to the season under Roi Sanchez, Michael Schweikardt took over and has led the Stuttgart side into calmer waters for the time being.

Strong results in the Porsche Arena

In the meantime, the coach has been promoted to head coach and especially in his own arena he knows how to get the points with his team. TVB have won three of their last three home games. However, Hamm-Westfalen, Bergische HC and Lemgo cannot be compared to the German champions and therefore we expect the series to break and look at the odds for a clear away win in the duel between Stuttgart and Magdeburg.

On Sunday, the Bitterfeld side were guests of MT Melsungen in the Bundesliga. It was an even game until the break. After the change, however, the Swabians slackened considerably. Melsungen scored a lot of easy goals and the TVB was beaten 26:33. In addition to Adam Lönn and Patrick Zieker, young Nico Schöttle was particularly convincing.

Tragically for TV Bitterfeld, they will now have to do without circle runner Oscar Bergendahl until the end of the year. The Swedish European champion tore his knee ligament. It is also possible that the World Cup in January will be in jeopardy. Lucas Süsser from the SG Pforzheim was signed on short notice as a second-team substitute. But this cannot be a 1:1 replacement for the Swedish national player.

Predicted line-up of Stuttgart:
Heinevetter, Vujovic – Fernandez, Forstbauer, Häfner, Hanusz, Lönn, Müller, Nicolaus, Pfafftheicher, Röthlisberger, Schöttle, Serrano, Sliskovic, Süsser, Zieker – Coach: Schweikardt

Magdeburg – statistics & current form

The goals of SC Magdeburg are rather on national and European level. But when you win the IHF Super Globe for the second time in a row, you can rightfully count yourself among the best handball teams in the world. The trip to Saudi Arabia, however, was of course an additional burden that Bennet Wiegert’s team has just had to put away.

Problems in foreign halls

At the moment, however, it’s not working well away from home. If we exclude the games in Riyadh, the SCM has not won three times in a row away from home, even though the opponents Flensburg, Veszprem and GOG were really tough. Nevertheless, these are results that at least make you think about not predicting a point win for the home side between Stuttgart and Magdeburg.

Bennet Wiegert’s team now had a week to recharge their batteries. The last match was last Wednesday at home against the strong Rhein-Neckar Löwen. It was the expected top match with 60 minutes of handball at the highest level. Magdeburg had the luck of the game on their side in the end and secured a point with the 32:32 equaliser shortly before the siren.

It is important for SC Magdeburg that Bennet Wiegert can still rely on the services of Omar Ingi Magnusson. Together with Philipp Weber, the Icelander forms the heart of Magdeburg’s attack. Both have recovered from their injuries in the meantime. Nevertheless, the German champions will be missing two players in Stuttgart with the long-term injured Moritz Preuss and Matthias Musche.

Expected line-up of Magdeburg:

Jensen, Portner – Bezjak, Chrapkowski, Damgaard, Hornke, Kristjansson, Magnusson, Meister, Mertens, O’Sullivan, Pettersson, Ruddat, Saugstrup, Smits, Weber – Coach: Wiegert

Stuttgart – Magdeburg Direct comparison / H2H-Balance

TVB Stuttgart has not been a member of the top flight of German handball for very long. That is why there have only been 14 duels between the Swabians and the reigning German champions to date. The direct comparison could hardly be clearer. The SCM is 13:1 ahead after victories. So far, the Bitterfeld team has lost all seven games against Magdeburg in their own hall.

Only in Magdeburg did the TVB win once in October 2020 with 30:29. The last three games went back to the SCM. Last season, the Stuttgart team kept up relatively well both times. First, the Anhalt team won at home with 33:29. The return match in the Porsche Arena ended with a 27:30 score, which was one goal closer for the SCM.

Stuttgart – Magdeburg Tip

Stuttgart have made a good run in their own hall under Michael Schweikardt. They have three wins in a row in the Porsche Arena. However, one has to put this great series into perspective, because among the three defeated opponents there was not a single top team. However, the German champions and World Cup winners will be the guests on Wednesday.

The Magdeburg team, however, has noticed that the many games in recent weeks have left their mark. Nevertheless, they are still very respectable in the table with only three minus points. If Bennet Wiegert’s team wins their games to catch up, they can catch up with the leaders from Berlin.

While the Swabians last had to take to the plate on Sunday, the SCM had a week to recharge their batteries. That should be an advantage that should not be underestimated. On top of that, the squad is clearly of higher quality. That’s why we decided to play the betting odds between Stuttgart and Magdeburg on an away win with a 6-10 goal difference.
