Next duel between Pogacar and Vingegaard?

The ninth stage of the Tour of France is coming up. Wettbasis presents a tip and odds for the 9th stage of the Tour de France! After the past two days were dominated by the sprinters, today it’s a lot more mountainous again.

No less than 3,500 metres of altitude await the riders, which is why they will really earn tomorrow’s rest day at the Tour. Due to the demanding profile of the route, the candidates for the “yellow jersey” can be counted among the 9th stage TDF 2023 favourites.

These are foreseeably only two professionals who have already alternated the first two places in the overall classification between themselves in the last two years. We are of course talking about two-time Tour winner Tadej Pogacar and last year’s winner Jonas Vingegaard.

At the moment, the latter Dane has a narrow lead, but so far the riders have only completed about 42 per cent of this year’s Tour and the particularly difficult stages are still to come.

For today’s 9th stage of the Tour de France, the forecast is aiming for a podium finish from Jonas Vingegaard.

The route of stage 9 at the 2023 Tour de France

The 9th stage TDF 2023 favourites and all other riders still in the peloton start in Saint-Leonard-de Noblat. A small town with no more than 4,400 inhabitants. For the peloton, the day will be unquestionably demanding.

Although there are only third and fourth category mountain classifications on the schedule before the last climb, there are three such stages, which is why there are always opportunities for breakaway groups. In addition, the final climb is even more challenging.

Tour returns to the Puy de Dôme

After 35 years of abstinence, the Puy de Dôme is once again part of the Tour de France and the volcanic cone in the Massif Central would be a huge challenge even during the course, but this time it is especially so as planners have placed it at the end of stage 9 of the 2023 Tour de France.

The TDF 2023 favourites for the overall classification and the mountain classification thus have to prove themselves extra today. The climb up the Puy de Dôme comprises an average gradient of 7.7 percent and a length of more than 13 kilometres. For the question: “Who will win the 9th TDF stage”? it is unquestionably decisive.

The legendary mountain has already written many stories in the past, for example when Fausto Coppi arrived first on the inactive volcano at its premiere in 1952 or the gripping duel between Jacques Anquetil and Raymond Poulidor almost 60 years ago. Now, fans can look forward to the next chapter in Tour history around the Puy de Dôme!

9th stage Tour de France tip

For the 9th stage of the Tour de France, tip and odds on a podium finish for Jonas Vingegaard represent the first choice of the betting base. Even though there are still around 170 riders competing in the Tour, the tussle for the “Maillot Jaune” is a duel between Tadej Pogacar and him, just like last year.

After the Dane was able to take almost a minute off “Pogi” on stage 5, he also appeared to be the rider in better form for the moment, but the two-time winner of the “Grand Boucle” struck back immediately with a victory the next day and in turn distanced Vingegaard by almost half a minute.

There is still no single favourite for the Tour victory and this is also true for today’s difficult mountain stage. However, it seems certain that the day’s victory will only go to these two dominating riders. For this reason, the forecast for at least a top-3 finish for the current overall leader in the 9th stage of the TDF 2023 seems to be a promising selection.
