Mature Test for Callan Rydz
The 2022 World Championship couldn’t have gone any better for Callan Rydz. The youngster, who is taking part in only the third Professional Darts Corporation World Championship in his young career, has made a splash at the Ally Pally so far, dropping just one set in his ongoing World Championship fairytale.
In the quarter-finals the crowd favourite from Newcastle will be tested. After all Rydz will play on Saturday evening against Peter Wright, the world number two of the PDC. As expected Callan Rydz is the underdog against the experienced “Snakebite”. Nevertheless we think a bet on the youngster in Wright v. Rydz is not out of the question.
Callan “The Riot” Rydz meanwhile is on a high and has – at least in his current form – the potential to challenge a top player like Peter Wright in a best-of-9 set.
Encouraging is among others the result on the European Tour 2 in September 2021 when Callan Rydz defeated “Snakebite” Wright 6:3 and celebrated a win against the world number two for the first time in his current career. Only three months before Peter Wright had defeated Callan Rydz 7:0 in the Players Championship 16.
Peter Wright – Statistics & current form
Peter Wright made a clear statement in the last 16 of the 2022 World Cup, beating Ryan Searle 4-1. Compared to the Players Championship Finals 2021, where Wright won the deciding leg, the World Championship 2022 Round of 16 was a clear win for “Snakebite”.
Over the match the world number two played an average of 98,91 and threw seven 180s in five sets. The score was commendable as Wright hit an average of ten points more than his opponent Searle who only averaged 88.24 in the last 16.
With the win over Searle Wright extended his current winning streak to nine matches. Since the defeat against Gerwyn Price in the final of the Grand Slam 2021 Peter Wright didn’t lose a match. There have been some competitive matches since then but Wright has always held his nerve in the deciding moments.
Wright aims for next World Championship title
Two years ago Peter Wright won the World Championship title for the first time in his career. So the result at the last World Championship in the “Ally Pally” was all the more surprising where Peter Wright had to pack his bags against Gabriel Clemens already in the third round.
This time the adventure in London goes according to plan – at least till the quarterfinals. With Callan Rydz the world number two from Scotland got a tough draw. Three months ago Wright already lost the match against the youngster. If there is a revenge now, odds for tip 1 of 1.50 are paid for Wright vs. Rydz.

Callan Rydz – stats & recent form
Callan Rydz is the biggest surprise of the ongoing 2022 World Cup, not only because the Englishman is already in the quarter-finals by now, but also because Rydz provided a clear balance of power in the rounds before. Even a Nathan Aspinall went down in the sixteenth final and conceded a “whitewash” against the 23-year-old.
Over the match Rydz had an average of 98.35 against Aspinall with a total of seven 180s. The checkout rate of 41.38% was also commendable. A total of twelve out of 29 throws on the doubles found their target. Callan Rydz underlined his form in the last round against Alan Soutar.
Surprisingly, Rydz lost the first set to the “oldie”. But “The Riot” turned up the heat in the course of the match and won four sets in a row in which the Englishman only had to drop one leg. The youngster will now face Wright with a big chest to stand on.
Rydz follows up recent average?
Against Wright on Saturday night, Rydz will need to produce his best performance of the season to reach the semi-finals of the 2022 World Cup. Considering how strong “Snakebite” already played in the last 16, an average of more than 90 is almost mandatory for “The Riot” Rydz.
The last time Rydz met the world number two from Scotland, he won 6:3 in the best-of-11 on the European Tour 2 in Gibraltar. Although Wright played with an average of 108,19, the Englishman managed a well-deserved surprise coup against “Snakebite” with an average of 110,72.
Among other things, Rydz even checked out a “170” with a bullseye finish in his last match against Wright. If the 23-year-old again manages the highest checkout in the showdown with “Snakebite”, odds of 2.00 on the highest checkout by Rydz will be paid out for risk-savvy bettors on Wright vs.

Peter Wright – Callan Rydz Direct comparison / H2H record
For the sixth time Peter Wright and Callan Rydz meet. So far, “Snakebite” Wright has won five out of six matches. Only in the last match between the two players the youngster from Newcastle prevailed. Rydz’s 6:3 win was a surprise because only three months before the Englishman had a whitewash against Peter Wright.
Peter Wright – Callan Rydz Tip
Callan Rydz has already come out on top four times at the current 2022 World Championship. Now the Englishman aims at the big coup and wants to eliminate with Peter Wright a co-favourite for the World Championship title. His recent form is encouraging as “The Riot” Rydz has only lost one set in the current World Championship.
Even Nathan Aspinall came under the wheels despite an average of 95,56 and lost clearly with 0:4. That Callan Rydz also has the potential to defeat a top player like Peter Wright, the Englishman already proved impressively in this calendar year. At the European Tour 2 Rydz already won 6:3 against “Snakebite”.
Nevertheless, Peter Wright’s role as favourite on Saturday evening is understandable. Wright put on a power show against an in-form Ryan Searle in the last 16, winning 4-1. Over the match “Snakebite” even had an average of 98.91. Compared to the match before it was a clear performance improvement of the world number two.
Nevertheless, we do not rule out a surprise on Saturday evening and see value in the high odds on a Rydz coup. With a stake of five units we dare to bet on Wright vs. Rydz at odds of 2.00 on Rydz as the first player with a 180. After all, the Englishman was already playing at full speed in the rounds before
