Will Hempel pull off a sensation against the Dreammaker?

Will the “Kölsche Jung” become a party crasher? Florian Hempel won the German first round duel against Martin Schindler 3:0 on his World Championship debut and has thus secured a match against the world number 5?

For Dimitri van den Bergh, Tuesday’s appearance will be the start of the World Championships, with the Belgian himself not knowing exactly in which shape he will compete in London. Of course, the Dreammaker is very clearly favoured by the best bookmakers. Between Dimitri van den Bergh and Florian Hempel, the odds on the Belgian’s side are 1.30 at the top.

With successful bets on the German underdog, the stake can be more than quadrupled. Whether there will be a sensation in black-red-gold will be seen on Tuesday evening when the two players step onto the oche at around 22:00.

Dimitri van den Bergh – Statistics & current form

Dimitri van den Bergh is the big star in his home country and has steadily fought his way to the top in recent years. His final breakthrough came at the World Matchplay 2020 when he secured his first Major title with a final win over Gary Anderson. Since then van den Bergh has established himself in the top ten of the world ranking and as number 5 he is of course one of the favourites for the World Championship.

How close is the Dreammaker to his best form again?

At Alexandra Palace, he has reached the quarter-finals twice so far. The Dreammaker would like to improve on this best performance. The 27-year-old’s form ahead of the event in the British capital is difficult to gauge. He progressed to the final of the World Series of Darts Finals and seemed to be in good form.

However, van den Bergh was subsequently slowed down by a positive Corona test. The Belgian could not take part in the Grand Slam of Darts. At the Players Championship Finals, the big dress rehearsal for the World Championship, he didn’t survive the second round against Dutchman Danny Noppert after an opening win against Madars Razma. At 2:6 van den Bergh played an average of just over 92 points and was a good deal away from his best performance.

Is it enough for the first World Championship semi-final this time?

Whether he was able to use the remaining weeks of training to raise his level of play to the usual level will only become clear on Tuesday evening on stage. Of course, the fifth in the world rankings is considered the favourite and between Dimitri van den Bergh and Florian Hempel, a tip can only be made in the direction of the family man. How good the Dreammaker really is, however, can only be determined after the match.

Florian Hempel – Statistics & current form

2021 Florian Hempel, who previously aspired to a handball career, made his breakthrough into the professional ranks. In mid-February, he secured his tour card on the third day of the European Q-School. The big highlight came afterwards at the Super League Darts Germany when he threw a 9-darter in the main round and progressed to the final.

Hempel crowns his strong year 2021 in London

After missed matchdarts Hempel lost to his training partner Martin Schindler, with whom he now returned the favour at the Ally Pally on the biggest possible stage in the world. Further successes were for example at the European Championship in Salzburg when he eliminated reigning champion Peter Wright in the opener. At his World Championship debut it came to the German duel on Sunday against “The Wall” in which the number 87 of the world kept his nerve.

Especially with two outstanding high finishes the player from Cologne could turn the match on his side and in the end won 3:0. Even though the average of both players was just under 90 points and the rounds were very close, the 31-year-old proved to have ice-cold nerves at his premiere in the Ally Pally. He converted his very first Machdart in the double 20 and can now look forward to the big duel with the number 5 of the world

Can the Cologne player improve again after the “German” win?

The German underdog has nothing at all to lose, can play completely free. With a further improvement in performance, at least a set win is possible. In the pairing of Dimitri van den Bergh vs. Florian Hempel, it is safe to predict that the “Kölsche Jung” will enjoy his time at the oche. The result should not play too big a role in the end and even if Hempel is eliminated as expected, the World Championships can already be considered a great success.

Dimitri van den Bergh – Florian Hempel Direct comparison / H2H balance

Direct comparison stats do not help with Dimitri van den Bergh vs Florian Hempel betting tips and odds. Unsurprisingly, the two players have never met before and their paths are now crossing for the first time. Hempel has hardly ever played in PDC events and in the few Pro Tour events this year there never was a duel with the three-time champion.

Dimitri van den Bergh – Florian Hempel Tip

The starting position in the odds comparison of the betting basis is rightly very clear and could possibly even be a little clearer. As world number 5, Dimitri van den Bergh is one of the big tournament favourites and with an almost “normal” performance, he will easily overcome his opening hurdle on Tuesday.

Florian Hempel has already achieved the goal by winning the German duel in Round 1 and there shouldn’t be much in it for the Rhinelander against the Dreammaker.

His average would have to rise well above 90 points if the outsider wants to upset the favourite van den Bergh at all. The Belgian’s odds may be relatively high because he missed the Grand Slam of Darts due to a Corona infection and was subsequently eliminated early in the Players Championship Finals.

This can be used because between Dimitri van den Bergh and Florian Hempel the tip on a 3:0 of the favourite provides a nice value. A bet of five units can be placed on the Belgian’s smooth success.
