Will the Bruins stay goal-hungry in Detroit?

Traditional duel in the East and Moritz Seider is in the middle of it instead of just being there. The German international has been one of the positive surprises in the Red Wings squad this season, who otherwise haven’t had much to smile about.

That’s why they haven’t had anything to do with the play-off places for quite some time. The Bruins, on the other hand, have almost certainly reached the post-season and are now looking to improve their position. After all, there are only a measly three points between 3rd and 7th place.

The Bruins are currently in seventh place, which would mean a duel with one of the two best teams in the East, the Panthers or the Hurricanes. They want to avoid both at all costs, which is why their motivation should be even higher than that of the Red Wings.

For this reason, our prediction for Detroit vs. Boston is an away win for the Bruins, which should also see some total goals scored. After all, the Red Wings are fielding the worst defensive team in the entire NHL this season.

Detroit Red Wings – Statistics & current form

The Red Wings have completely lost their interim flow again and are now just somehow trying to save themselves over the finish line of the season. But they are not doing that very well, especially not defensively.

They’ve been getting their heads handed to them in a row lately, including a 2:11 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins and a 2:5 loss to the Ottawa Senators twice in a row. As the Bruins are much stronger than Ottawa, we don’t see much hope for Detroit on Tuesday either.

Red Wings already planning for the following season

It’s also apparent in the Red Wings’ games right now that they’re not solely concerned with winning every game. They are changing lines and trying things out to prepare for the coming season.

There, the team around German national defender Moritz Seider wants to attack the playoffs for the first time since the rebuild. Thanks to the young core around Seider (44 points), Raymond (52 points) and Larkin (64 points), this is certainly a realistic challenge.

Little speaks for Detroit

For Tuesday now, there are few points in Detroit’s favour. They have the weakest defence in the league (3.86 goals conceded per game), the weakest penalty killing (72.0%) and now already six defeats in a row, four of them also with at least a three-goal difference.

Therefore, a bet against Detroit for Red Wings vs. Bruins is more than just recommended. Already for pure win bets on Boston there is an acceptable value, which we can increase with a handicap of up to -1.5.

Boston Bruins – Statistics & current form

The Boston Bruins are a bit of the current antithesis of the Red Wings. Their six losses in a row are offset by six wins of their own from the last seven encounters. This makes the Bruins one of the most in-form teams in the league.

In the Eastern Conference, only the Panthers have also won eight of their last ten games. They have won their last three by at least a three-goal difference, which is the exact opposite of Detroit.

A clear win not unlikely

This of course increases the chance of a clear victory for the away team with at least a two-goal difference. All the more surprising are the quotes of the bookmakers, who give us odds of up to 2.35 for Detroit against Boston.

Alternatively, the Bruins’ current run can also be exploited with over-point bets. The last four Bruins games have always featured at least seven total goals. So bets on Over 5.5 or even Over 6.5 are also still promising.

Detroit Red Wings – Boston Bruins Direct Comparison / H2H Balance

There have been three meetings so far this season, with the Bruins winning two of them. It becomes clearer, however, when we look at the goal difference in the direct duels. It is 11:4 in favour of Boston.

In the Red Wings’ only win (2-1, early December), however, the Bruins were also the clearly dominant team. At that time, the shot ratio was a whopping 42:16 in favour of Boston, which made it almost a miracle that Detroit was able to win the game.

All these points also speak in favour of Boston, which is why a bet on Boston is our clear No.1 recommendation for Red Wings vs. Bruins. A combination with over-points is also still within the realm of possibility and would push the value excellently.

Detroit Red Wings – Boston Bruins Tip

Boston is one of the in-form teams, Detroit one of the in-form teams. This season, the Bruins were superior to the Red Wings in all respects and the only duel that went to the Wings was solely thanks to Wings goalie Nedeljkovic.

However, since he has also declined in recent weeks, we do not expect a repeat. Thus, for Detroit vs. Boston, the betting odds on the Bruins are clearly the better choice.

Alternatively, we can also recommend over-point bets in this matchup. In the last four Bruins games, an average of 9.0 goals have been scored, in the last four Red Wings games exactly the same number.
