Is Austria off to a successful start in the Darts World Cup?

Mensur Suljovic and Rowby-John Rodriguez will compete for Austria in the 2023 Darts World Cup. The duo will be competing for the fourth time in a row. Their best result so far was a place in the final in 2021, but it was only against Scotland that the Austrians’ doubles World Cup fairytale came to an end.

One year later, Suljovic and Rodriguez were defeated in the last 16 by the eventual finalists from Wales. This time the World Cup will take place with group and knockout stages. Austria is represented in Group F by the USA and Denmark. The group opener is against the latter, and our Austria vs. Denmark tip is aimed at a clear victory for the Austrians.

Austria should not have too much trouble against the Danish World Cup duo Vladimir Andersen and Benjamin Drue Reus. Since 2016, the Scandinavians’ best result has been the second round at a World Cup. Denmark, on the other hand, have already failed in the first round five times.

It would therefore be all the more surprising if a prediction on the underdog pays off in Austria vs. The only question for our tip is how high Austria will win the group opener at the World Cup 2023.

Austria – Statistics & current form

Only the group winners at the Darts World Cup 2023 will qualify for the knockout stage of the prestigious competition in Frankfurt. With England, Netherlands, Wales and Scotland four World Cup duos are already qualified for the last 16. It is quite possible that Austria will also punch its ticket for the knockout phase.

With opponents like Denmark and the USA, there are two feasible hurdles. Already at the start of the group, Austria is clearly favoured and should not have too much trouble under normal circumstances. Mensur Suljovic played a strong tournament on the PDC Tour and was only eliminated in the semi-finals by Luke Woodhouse.

Rowby-John Rodriguez lost against the same opponent in the Players Championship 14. For Rodriguez it was the third defeat in the last five matches. The world number 53 is not in the best of shape, but Rodriguez is still confident going into the World Cup 2023 in the World Championship duo with Suljovic.

Is Suljovic taking the recent momentum with him?
Suljovic, in contrast, has won five of his last six matches. Among others, the veteran also prevailed against players like Cross & Co. Praiseworthy in this period was not only the strong average, but also the sovereign double quota of “The Gentle”. If Suljovic can build on this, the Austrians can expect a lot in the World Cup duo with Rodriguez.

The last time the two nations met in a Darts World Cup was in December 2010. Austria won 6:4 against Denmark. Suljovic was at the World Cup then as well and played with Maik Langendorf. Denmark – Statistics & current form

Denmark have flown largely under the radar at the Darts World Cup so far. The Scandinavians have never reached the quarter-finals. Best result so far was the last 16. In the last six participations Denmark already failed at the tournament start of the double World Cup. It would therefore not be surprising if the Scandinavians lose the next match.

Benjamin Drue Reus is a player making his debut on the Danish side this year. “The Flying Star”, as the 25-year-old is also called, has flown largely under the radar so far. It therefore remains to be seen how Reus will present himself in the World Cup duo with Andersen.

It is the second double World Cup for his team-mate. Last year, Vladimir Andersen was represented at the World Cup with Jörgensen. After a successful tournament start against Singapore, in which the Danish World Cup duo only had an average of 83.88, a clear defeat in the round of 16 against Germany followed.

Denmark doomed?
Andersen and Reus are already under pressure to win on the first matchday of the World Cup. If Denmark loses the group opener against Austria, they will only be able to make it to the knockout phase if they get some help. The leg ratio will also be decisive. It is therefore of great importance to at least be convincing on your own throw.

Vladimir Andersen took part in the Players Championship 14 last weekend just like the Austrian World Championship duo. Andersen won 6:4 against O’Shea at the beginning of the tournament. But in the following round he lost clearly against Heta. Andersen lost the match against the Australian 2:6.

Austria – Denmark Direct comparison / H2H-balance

These two nations meet for the second time in the Darts World Cup. The Austrians lead the H2h against Denmark with 1-0. It is quite possible that the record will be extended in the upcoming World Cup duel as well.

Austria – Denmark Tip

Austria are the clear favourites in the group with Denmark and the USA. Mensur Suljovic and Rowby-John Rodriguez should not have too many problems with their high scoring average and should win confidently against the Danish World Championship duo.

Especially Mensur Suljovic convinced recently in the singles and was even represented in the semi-finals of the Players Championship 14 last weekend. If “The Gentle” takes the momentum with him into the doubles World Championship, the veteran can be expected to do well again in the World Championship duo with Rodriguez.
