Opening jam in North London derby?
The prestigious North London derby between Arsenal and Tottenham will take place for the 204th time in history on matchday six. However, things are not going well for both teams from the north of the English capital. The Gunners are only 13th in the table. Spurs are seventh after two 3-0 defeats in a row
The momentum, at least, is more in favour of the Gunners, who, after three defeats to start with, have recently celebrated three straight wins to nil in the league and cup. Accordingly, in the run-up to the encounter between Arsenal and Tottenham, the odds are slightly in favour of the home side.
It is striking how difficult the two rivals from the north of London find it to score goals. The Gunners have only scored two goals in their first five league games and are currently the weakest attackers in the Premier League. Spurs, meanwhile, are only one goal up on three goals.
Consequently, we see the greatest value for Arsenal against Tottenham in betting on less than 2.5 goals.
England Arsenal – Statistics & current form
Arsenal FC finished just eighth in the Premier League at the end of another complicated season this summer. Because Mikel Arteta’s eleven were not helped this time by winning the FA Cup overall as they had the year before, a year without international football was thus a certainty for the Gunners.
Nevertheless, Mikel Arteta was allowed to stay on, while practically all the key players were retained. What’s more, those responsible dug deep into their pockets and spent the equivalent of around 165 million euros in transfer fees alone to sign players such as Ben White, Martin Ödegaard and Aaron Ramsdale, who even replaced Bernd Leno in goal.
Three wins in a row after three defeats without a goal
Even more disappointing for all concerned was the dismal start to the season. The Gunners lost their first three league games in succession to Brentford, Chelsea and Manchester City, scoring not a single goal in those three gamesand meanwhile conceding nine goals.
Then, however, the north Londoners finally got their act together in September. Most recently, Arsenal celebrated two 1-0 wins in a row over Norwich and Burnley in the Premier League and also punched their ticket to the last 16 of the League Cup with a 3-0 win during the week.
Won only one of the last six North London derbies
Now it will be decided whether the Gunners can continue their recent run, or whether they will fall back into the patterns of their poor start to the season when they face their first more dangerous opponent. Historically, things have not gone overly well in the North London derby.
Arsenal did win 2-1 in their last meeting on 14 March 2021, but before that they went winless five times in a row (two draws, three defeats). It is therefore much more sustainable to avoid the three-way system and follow the betting on under 2.5 goals for Arsenal against Tottenham.
Predicted Arsenal line-up:
Ramsdale – Tierney – Magalhaes – White – Tomiyasu – Partey – Saka – Ödegaard – Smith Rowe – Pépé – Aubameyang

England Tottenham – Statistics & current form
Tottenham Hotspur have won the UEFA Cup twice and the European Cup Winners’ Cup in 1963. However, the only English championships are the two titles from 1951 and 1961.
Since then, the Lilywhites have been waiting for another success. After knocking on the door of the top flight every now and then over the last decade, this summer they finished a disappointing seventh in the final table, which took Spurs into the Conference League.
At first strong start with three minimalist 1-0 wins
Because superstars such as Harry Kane, Heung-min Son and Dele Alli were once again retained in the transfer market, the north Londoners this time pulled out all the stops to score a coup in the coaching market. In the end, the Lilywhites managed to land Nuno Espírito Santo, the long-time successful coach of Wolverhampton Wanderers.
At first, everything looked like the beginning of a good era, as Spurs beat champions Manchester City 1-0 on matchday one and followed it up with two more minimalist 1-0 wins against Wolves and Watford. Then, however, the momentum was lost for the Londoners.
Ten goals conceded in last four competitive games
Recently Tottenham lost two league games in a row with 0:3 and slipped down to seventh place in the table. Curious is the goal difference of 3:6, which was nevertheless enough for three victories after five games.
Nevertheless, in the run-up to the North London derby between Arsenal and Tottenham, the odds are in favour of Spurs.
Predicted Tottenham line-up:
Lloris – Reguilón – Dier – Romero – Royal – Alli – Höjbjerg – Ndombélé – Kane – Lo Celso – Son
Last matches played by Tottenham:
Arsenal – Tottenham Direct Comparison / H2H Record
Head to head: 83 – 54 – 66
There have been a total of 203 competitive matches between the two teams so far and the Gunners lead the head-to-head comparison with 83 wins. Arsenal also secured victory in the last North London derby to date, but before that they had gone winless five times in a row.
England Arsenal – Tottenham England betting tip
When it comes to Arsenal vs Tottenham, the prediction has to take into account the lack of attacking nous of both teams. The Gunners have scored just two goals from five league games, making them the weakest offensive side in the Premier League, while Spurs have marked just one goal more and have recently suffered two thumping 3-0 defeats in a row
We expect the Lilywhites to put a bit more focus on defence, which suggests a tough North London derby, with the recent lack of goals from the attacking side contributing to a low-scoring match
