Due to three withdrawals, 27-year-old Italian Lorenzo Sonego has just managed to secure the last free spot on the French Open seedings list as the 32nd player.
The Turin native also has the potential to start a good run at the only Grand Slam tournament that takes place on clay. After all, he played his two best major tournaments to date on that surface when he reached the quarter-finals in Monte Carlo in 2019 and the semi-finals at the Rome Masters in 2021.

Lorenzo Sonego, however, has not yet been able to record any really resounding successes. On the ATP Tour, the 27-year-old has now won only two singles titles in minor tournaments in his eight years as a professional. He has also rarely made a noticeable appearance at the Grand Slams.
At the French Open, the world number 35 only made it to the main draw three times. Once he reached the round of 16 (2020). In his other two appearances, the Italian was also knocked out in his opening match.

Lately, the 27-year-old has not been convincing in the 2022 clay court season either. Sonego won only two singles in four preparatory tournaments and also has a negative record for the year with only ten wins from 23 singles. Among others, he lost 0:2 to the underdog Jack Draper (ATP 121) in Madrid.
It is therefore surprising that the man from Turin is seen as such a clear favourite at Roland Garros.
