Will the experienced Czech prevail in the quarter-finals for the first time?

Everything was set for a thrilling quarter-final between former Grand Slam winners Bianca Andreescu and Petra Kvitova. But then the Canadian suffered a serious injury and had to be driven off the court in a wheelchair.

Her Russian opponent then progressed to the next round without a fight. However, there is little to suggest that Ekaterina Alexandrova’s bet on Petra Kvitova’s progression will work out.

Not only did Ekaterina Alexandrova lose her only singles match to date against Petra Kvitova by a clear score of 0:2 (1:6 and 2:6), but for the Russian it is only the second Major tournament of her career after the Madrid Open 2022 in which she is among the top eight players. However, in the case of Ekaterina Alexandrova against Petra Kvitova, it must also be taken into account in the forecast that the Czech has never made it past the quarter-finals of the Miami Open.

Nevertheless, in addition to the clear head-to-head comparison, the year’s balance is also clearly in Petra Kvitova’s favour. While the two-time Grand Slam winner has won 14 of her 19 singles matches this year, Ekaterina Alexandrova has only seven wins from twelve singles matches, with the most recent victory over Bianca Andreescu coming under quite fortunate circumstances.

Accordingly, the betting on a win by the Czech, for whom the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami certainly suits her, can be played well. Petra Kvitova won 20 of 32 completed singles matches here.

Ekaterina Alexandrova – Statistics & current form

Current ranking in the World Ranking: 18
Position in the seedings: 18

Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova, 28, has been a fixture on the WTA Tour since 2016. Although she has established herself in the top 20 of the WTA world rankings in the recent past, she has not yet recorded any too resounding successes.

The Czech by choice, who has lived in Prague since 2006, has won three singles titles on the WTA Tour so far, but she has only been able to win these titles at comparatively small tournaments. Her most recent victory came last September at a small WTA 250 tournament in Seoul, South Korea.

Won seven of the twelve singles matches in 2023

This year has been a slow one for the world No. 18, who failed to reach the third round of the Australian Open and only managed a small success in Qatar in February when she defeated Karolina Pliskova (WTA 19) 2-0 (6-1 and 6-2).

In Miami, on the other hand, the Russian managed three victories, which put her among the top eight players at a major tournament for only the second time in her career after the Madrid Open in 2022. Still, her record for the year doesn’t read too scary, with seven wins to five losses.

No chance in last singles against Kvitova

In addition, the 28-year-old has recently benefited from the injury to the resurgent Bianca Andreescu and already had to toil hard in her opening match in a 2-1 win over Taylor Townsend.

Considering that the Russian also lost her only singles match to date against her Czech quarter-final opponent by a clear 2-0 margin, it is therefore not surprising that the betting odds are clearly against the world No. 18 in the match between Ekaterina Alexandrova and Petra Kvitova.

Current world ranking: 12
Position in the seedings: 15

The 33-year-old Czech Petra Kvitova looks back on an incredibly successful career. In 2011, she won the overall title at the Wimbledon Championships for the first time and even triumphed at the WTA Finals (then called the WTA Tour Championships) at the end of the year.

Three years later, the six-time Fed Cup winner won the Wimbledon Championships for the second time. Meanwhile, in addition to her two Grand Slam titles in singles, she has won 27 more tournaments on the WTA Tour. Only at number one in the world rankings has Petra Kvitova never been

Won 14 of 19 singles matches in 2023

While the Czech also experienced very tough times. After being attacked in her own home in 2016 and suffering career-threatening injuries to her hitting hand at knifepoint by her assailant, Petra Kvitova nevertheless fought her way back meticulously and even reached a third Grand Slam final in 2019, which she lost at the Australian Open, however.

Nevertheless, the now 33-year-old player is far from having passed her zenith and must always be counted among the secret favourites at all tournaments in which she participates. In the current year, the Czech has 14 wins from 19 singles matches.

Fourth time in Miami Open quarter-finals

Also now with Ekaterina Alexandrova going up against Petra Kvitova, our prediction is for the 33-year-old to progress, which would set a new milestone in her career in Miami. She has been among the top eight players here three times before in 2014, 2019 and 2022, but always failed to reach the quarter-finals.

Overall, however, the Czech’s record at the Hard Rock Stadium reads extremely positively, as she went without dropping a set in her three victories at the Miami Open 2023. Petra Kvitova has played 32 singles matches here. She has won 20 of those matches.

Ekaterina Alexandrova – Petra Kvitova Direct comparison / H2H record

Head to head: 0:1

Three years ago, both players faced each other in the third round of the Australian Open 2020. However, Petra Kvitova made short work of Ekaterina Alexandrova and celebrated an easy 2-0 victory (6:1 and 6:2). By the way, there was no rematch in the quarter-finals of the St. Petersburg Ladies Trophy only three weeks later. Before the match, the Czech had to withdraw due to injury.

Ekaterina Alexandrova – Petra Kvitova Tip

Ekaterina Alexandrova vs Petra Kvitova: The odds are in favour of the Czech, who won her only meeting with the Russian 2-0 (6-1, 6-2). Three years have passed since then, during which Ekaterina Alexandrova has increasingly fought her way up the WTA world rankings. But a look at the annual records of both women – with five losses each, Petra Kvitova has already won twice as many matches (14) as the Russian (seven) – shows a clear advantage for the Czech.

Also in view of the fact that the Czech is used to playing such big matches, while Ekaterina Alexandrova is in a quarter-final of a major tournament for only the second time ever, it makes the most sense to bet on the two-time Grand Slam winner from the Czech Republic to win Ekaterina Alexandrova against Petra Kvitova.

Mybet offers odds of 1.63 for Petra Kvitova to win, which we are playing with seven units.
