Will the No. 1 fail again against an Italian?

Tennis fans can look forward to a felt ball treat de luxe with Carlos Alcaraz against Matteo Berrettini. Tip and odds presented by Wettbasis! The Spaniard is seeded No. 1 at Wimbledon and hopes for his first success in London.

At just 20 years old, it would be his second Grand Slam title after last year’s coup at the US Open. The Iberian has already proved that he feels comfortable on grass. He won the title at the preparation tournament at the neighbouring Queen’s Club at the end of June.

However, he will now meet a proven specialist for the green surface. The Italian recently knocked Alexander Zverev out of the competition 3-0 and has already reached the final once at Wimbledon.

For the Spanish prodigy, the toughest test so far in the All England Club is looming. Nevertheless, the Alcaraz vs Berrettini odds clearly assign the role of favourite to the world ranking leader. Does the betting public agree with this verdict? Answers to this question are given in the following text.

Carlos Alcaraz – Statistics & current form

The Iberian has already set a number of records in the course of his young career. Last year, he became the youngest US Open winner since Pete “The Swing” Sampras in 1990 and rose to become the youngest number 1 in the world rankings.

It has long been apparent that the player from Murcia is growing into a new tennis superstar. Now he is aiming for his first success at Wimbledon and has his eye on replacing Novak Djokovic at Church Road.

Djokovic, for his part, has already won the London Grand Tournament seven times and won the two previous Grand Slam tournaments in Melbourne and Paris this year. On the basis of the latter record, it quickly becomes clear that the “Djoker” is not yet ready to hand over the reins to the youngster. On the other hand, Alcaraz has already regained the top spot in the world rankings from the Serbian this year, which he had lost in the meantime.

Spanish already rushing from victory to victory again

Further, from his point of view, 2023 has been successful so far despite his lack of success at Grand Slam tournaments. Alacaraz has five titles to his name and with his latest success at Queen’s Club, he now also has a grass-court triumph to his name. At Wimbledon, he has also marched through the tournament without any major problems.

In the three rounds he has played, the Spanish pro only lost one set in his last match against Chile’s Nicolas Jarry. Admittedly, the match schedule has been easy for the number 1 seed so far.

A repeat of last year’s elimination?

There’s room for improvement in the only Grand Slam tournament on grass. On his debut in 2021, he had to bow out after the 2nd round and last year in the round of 16. Last year’s defeat was against Jannik Sinner and thus against an Italian.

Not a good omen for the upcoming task, especially since Alcaraz was considered the favourite for victory then, too, but in the end recorded a 1:3 against the South Tyrolean. In view of this and the strong performances of his upcoming opponent in Wimbledon so far, odds and bets on a success of the underdog, including a handicap of + 1.5 sets for him, are also worth considering for the match between Carlos Alcaraz and Matteo Berrettini.

Matteo Berrettini – Statistics & current form

Matteo Berrettini ended Alexander Zverev’s goal of at least reaching the last 16 at Wimbledon for the third time in his career in the last round. In the end, the Hamburg player had to concede a clear 3-0 defeat to the Italian on the No. 1 court, although two rounds were only decided in a tiebreak.

The 27-year-old missed the tournament in the south of London last year, but now he seems to be following up on his performance in 2021, when his path took him all the way to the final against Novak Djokovic. He lost out to the Serb, but at least he took one set from him in his “second living room” after Melbourne.

Berrettini playing strong at Wimbledon

The right-hander also acted very robustly before the match against Zverev. Before his success against the Hamburg player, he defeated the Australian Alex De Minaur, another strong grass court player, who had recently played the final against Alcaraz at Queen’s Club.

He also only needed three sets against the professional from Down Under. He also defeated his compatriot Lorenzo Sonego 3-1 in the 1st round, thus taking revenge on him for his previous defeat at the Boss Open in Stuttgart.

Italian serves efficiently

His service, in particular, is currently on point: against Zverev, as against De Minaur, he did not concede a break and only four break points in both matches. Against this backdrop, the forecast and betting odds for Carlos Alcaraz against Matteo Berrettini to once again go for more than a tiebreak also look promising.

Carlos Alcaraz – Matteo Berrettini Direct Comparison / H2H-Balance

The last direct duel between Carlos Alcaraz and Matteo Berrettini took place in February last year at the ATP tournament in Rio de Janeiro on clay. On Sugarloaf Mountain, the Spaniard prevailed in three sets in the quarter-finals of the competition.

Thanks to the success, he has two wins and one loss in this pairing. Alcaraz’s only defeat, however, came at a Grand Slam tournament. Last year at the Australian Open, the Spaniard was beaten 3-2 in the 3rd round by the Roman.

Carlos Alcaraz – Matteo Berrettini Tip

Alcaraz is still unbeaten on grass this year! After his win at Queen’s Club and three successes in the previous rounds at Wimbledon, he has an unblemished record of 8-0 on this surface. On top of that, not many words need to be said about the basically enormous talent of the world number 1.

For the match between Carlos Alacaraz and Matteo Berrettini, however, betting on the underdog to win more than 19.5 games is the first choice. The Italian recently defeated De Minaur and “Sascha” Zverev, two players with a strong game, 3-0. On top of that, he reached the final at his last appearance at Wimbledon in 2021.

In addition, he has won more than half (4) of his seven ATP Tour titles on the green surface. So at least on grass he can keep up with the Spaniard. Another factor in favour of the prediction is that all three previous duels between the two players have resulted in set wins on both sides.

From this point of view, another close match is on the cards, which is why the Alcaraz vs. Berrettini prediction is based on the Roman winning at least 20 games. Especially since the Roman has been serving very confidently in Wimbledon so far and has not conceded a break since two rounds despite opponents of challenging quality!
