Will the Saxons start a new series?

VfL Wolfsburg and RB Leipzig went through quite a comparable development in the 2022/23 season. Both teams messed up the start of the season, but then managed to stabilise again. However, while the Wolves, after eleven consecutive games without defeat, remained winless four times in a row, RBL has lost only one of its last 13 league games. A little more value can therefore be found in betting on a win for the visitors in Wolfsburg against RB Leipzig.

Finally, things have gone very well for the Saxons against the VfL, against whom they have lost only one of the last eleven competitive matches (six wins, four draws). However, the Red Bulls have currently been waiting for another treble for five away trips to the Volkswagen Arena (three draws, two defeats). Nevertheless, our prediction for Wolfsburg against RB Leipzig goes to the visitors, who are unbeaten in six Bundesliga away games under Marco Rose.

In the battle for the Champions League places, the Saxons recently suffered a setback with a 2-1 home defeat against Union Berlin. In fact, however, it was Leipzig’s only defeat in the last 13 league games (eight wins, four draws). Consequently, we find a lot of value in betting that a new run can be started against Wolves, who have been winless for four games (one draw, three defeats).

There is always a risk involved in the three-way system. However, those who are not prepared to take this risk can get more security on the betting slip by claiming a free bet.

Wolfsburg – Statistics & current form

VfL Wolfsburg have won the German championship once before in the 2008/09 season, but have been far from repeating that great feat recently. Last season, the team from Lower Saxony only finished twelfth in the final table and thus missed out on qualifying for an international competition, which they are hoping to achieve again this year.

There is a parallel to the championship season. In nine Bundesliga home games in the 2022/23 season, the Wolves have already scored a remarkable 23 goals – as many as they last scored in the 2008/09 season (25 at that time).

Without a win in four consecutive games

But apart from that, the Green-Whites lack consistency above all. After a weak start to the season, the Lower Saxons remained unbeaten in eleven consecutive league games between October and January (eight wins, three draws). However, the series was broken on 28 January 2023 with a 1:2 defeat in Bremen.

After that, things went in the other direction again. Currently, the Wolves have been waiting for another win for four consecutive games (one draw, three defeats) and were not even able to defeat the bottom team Schalke (0:0).

White-jacketed eight times already in the 2022/23 season

Hope nevertheless comes from the fact that the Lower Saxons bring plenty of stability defensively. In the goalless draw against the Königsblauen, the Kovac eleven played to nil for the eighth time in the 2022/23 season. Together with Freiburg and Dortmund, that is the best record in the league.

In view of the fact that the Red Bulls, the second most dangerous attack in the Bundesliga, are now coming to the Volkswagen Arena, betting on Wolfsburg against RB Leipzig that the Lower Saxons can once again avoid conceding a goal is under decidedly bad omens. However, VfL are unbeaten in five home games against RBL (three wins, two draws) and have conceded just four goals in six Bundesliga home games against the Saxons.

RB Leipzig – Statistics & current form

RB Leipzig made a rumbling start in the Beletage of German football, as they did in the 2021/22 season. Back then, those responsible held on to Jesse Marsch until the winter, before his successor Domenico Tedesco not only won the DFB Pokal but also finished fourth in the final table.

For the new season, however, Tedesco, for his part, was not given too much time when things did not go well. Marco Rose took over in the autumn and led the Red Bulls back to the top third of the table. Most recently, RBL remained undefeated in twelve consecutive league games (eight wins, four draws).

One point behind fourth place

Last Saturday, the Saxons even had the chance to move past a direct competitor in the fight for the Champions League with a home win over Union Berlin. In the end, however, the Red Bulls lost 1:2 to the Köpenickers, and there was a lot of anger, especially because of a disputed VAR decision. The winning streak has thus been broken.

However, RBL are still in a good position in fifth place and can stay there with an away win in Wolfsburg. At the same time, it is also a matter of picking up new momentum in the run-up to the eagerly awaited Champions League round of 16 tie against Manchester City next Wednesday.

Unbeaten in six Bundesliga away games

Generally, the Saxons travel to the Volkswagen Arena as favourites. The betting odds on Wolfsburg against RB Leipzig are in favour of the visitors, who have only won three of their ten Bundesliga away games so far this season.

However, this not-so-strong record must also be put into perspective by the fact that since Marco Rose took over, only the first of seven Bundesliga away games has been lost (three wins, three draws). Most recently, RBL have gone unbeaten in six consecutive visits to the top flight of German football.

Wolfsburg – RB Leipzig Direct comparison / H2H balance

Head to head: 4 – 5 – 9

A total of 18 competitive matches have taken place between the two teams and RB Leipzig lead the direct comparison with nine wins. Especially recently, VfL Wolfsburg have not been able to get too much against the Saxons, against whom only one victory has been recorded in the last eleven duels (four draws, six defeats).

Wolfsburg – RB Leipzig tip

For Wolfsburg against RB Leipzig, our prediction goes for an away win for the Red Bulls, who have not lost in six Bundesliga away games under Marco Rose (three wins, three draws) and come to the Volkswagen Arena with the second-best offence in the Bundesliga. The Wolves, on the other hand, have lost their momentum for the time being, going winless in four competitive games in a row (one draw, three defeats).

Although the Lower Saxons’ offence is remarkably good, especially in their own stadium. Nevertheless, we still believe that it will not be enough for the Green-Whites to stop the recent negative streak.
