Everton in danger of relegation!

The season’s final spurt is upon us in the Premier League. In contrast to last season, the championship and relegation battles remain exciting. Among the teams currently in the fight for relegation is Everton FC. After a mixed season, the Toffees have to fear to stay in the English top flight.

Ahead of Sunday’s match with WHU, Everton FC are separated by just three points from their neighbours Watford FC, who are in one of the three relegation places. Although Everton have two games less to play than their neighbours, the current Premier League standings are far from pretty.

The relegation-threatened Liverpool club may face another setback on Sunday. After all, opponents West Ham United are among the strongest teams in the league at home. The Londoners have lost only four of their 15 home games so far this season.

It is therefore not at all surprising that the best bookmakers rate the hosts from London as favourites. For West Ham vs. Everton, odds of only 1.80 are currently offered for tip 1. Bets on the underdogs from Liverpool, on the other hand, are rewarded with betting odds of 4.90 in the event of a win.

West Ham – Statistics & current form

For long periods of the current season, West Ham United were one of the positive surprises of the Premier League. Only in the second half of the season did the Londoners buckle and lose momentum in the fight for the CL places. After the latest defeat against Spurs, WHU even slipped down to seventh place.

The international places are still within reach. In contrast to WHU, however, direct competitors such as Spurs and Manchester United have recently been in much better shape. Further losses of points would therefore be fatal for the team of head coach David Moyes.

The home game against Sunday’s opponents Everton FC comes at a good time in view of the recent form curve at their own stadium. West Ham have not lost any of their last four home games. In fact, the Londoners have picked up maximum points on three occasions.

Will the next win against the Toffees come?

After 15 home games in the English top flight, WHU have a record of 8-3-4 at home. Only four other teams in the Premier League have taken more points at home than the Hammers. It is quite possible that the strong home record will be extended against Sunday’s opponents. In the first half of the season, WHU had already won 1-0 at stumbling Everton.

For the first time since the 1972/73 season, the Londoners are now aiming for a season double against the Toffees. Looking at West Ham’s recent home record against Everton, betting on a home win is risky. After all, the last time the Londoners beat Everton FC at home was in May 2018.

Moyes will have to do without Ogbonna, Bowen and Coufal this weekend due to injury. There are no other absentees in the Londoners’ ranks.

Predicted West Ham line-up:
Fabianski; Johnson, Dawson, Zouma, Cresswell; Soucek, Rice; Bowen, Lanzini, Fornals; Antonio

Everton – Statistics & current form

Frank Lampard continues to struggle with teething problems at the Toffees. Since the former midfielder took the reins at the stumbling PL club, there have only been four wins in ten competitive games. On the other hand, Lampard’s team has already suffered six defeats in this period.

Nevertheless, the 43-year-old has recently been able to breathe a sigh of relief in the league. Everton FC won their relegation battle against Saudi club Newcastle United, thus maintaining their lead over Watford FC. However, the Toffees are still only three points clear of their relegation rivals.

In the best-case scenario, Everton can extend their lead over the PL’s 18th-placed team to nine points. For that to happen, however, the Toffees will have to win both of their second legs in the English top flight. If Everton FC’s recent run of form is anything to go by, such a winning streak is rather out of the question.

No offensive power available?

The failure this season will be largely due to the lack of offensive power in the attacking department. Statistically, after all, the Toffees field one of the weakest offences in the league. Only four other clubs have scored fewer goals than Everton FC in the English top flight.

Everton have failed to score three times in their last four competitive games. This included the recent defeat to Crystal Palace in the FA Cup. Against their league rivals, Everton went down 4-0 after 90 harmless minutes of play and also bowed out of the cup competition.

To make matters worse, Lampard will again have to contend with some personnel worries this weekend. A total of seven players will not be available for Sunday’s match against WHU.

Projected Everton line-up:
Pickford; Coleman, Holgate, Keane, Godfrey; Van de Beek, Doucoure; Gordon, Gray, Richarlison; Calvert-Lewin

Last games played by Everton:

FA Cup
03/20 2022 – Crystal Palace 4 – 0 Everton

Premier League
03/17 2022 – Everton 1 – 0 Newcastle United

03/13 2022 – Everton 0 – 1 Wolverhampton

03/07 2022 – Tottenham 5 – 0 Everton

FA Cup
03/03 2022 – Everton 2 – 0 Boreham Wood

West Ham – Everton Direct Comparison / H2H Record

For the 147th time West Ham United and Everton FC will meet. The Toffees lead the head-to-head comparison against WHU so far with a record of 73-32-41. An average of 2.83 goals per game has been scored in the encounters between the two clubs. However, in the last three competitive matches between West Ham vs Everton, a prediction of over 2.5 goals has not paid off.

It is also risky to place bets on a high-scoring encounter this time. The visitors in particular lack the necessary offensive power. In the first leg of the current season, WHU won 1-0 against the Toffees.

West Ham – Everton Tip

The Hammers are still in the race for the international starting places. Everton FC, on the other hand, are still struggling to stay in the Premier League. The recent victory was therefore all the more important for the Toffees, as it was the first win for Lampard’s team after four league defeats in a row.

On the other hand, Everton FC had to bow out of the cup competition only a few days after their league win against Newcastle. Lampard’s side went down 4-0 to league rivals Crystal Palace and were thus eliminated from the quarter-finals of the FA Cup. It is quite possible that the next setback will follow this weekend.

When you consider how strong WHU have been in their own stadium recently, the next defeat for Everton FC is obvious. The Londoners have not lost any of their last four home games in the Premier League and are one of the strongest teams at home in the English top flight.
