Next setback for WBA?

After just a few matchdays in the Championship, the Baggies from West Bromwich are already lagging behind the high expectations in the second English league. West Brom are in 14th place with only eight points on their account and are already five points behind the two direct promotion places in the Championship.

On the other hand, their upcoming opponents Burnley are doing much better. The Clarets started their mission for promotion with twelve points from the first seven league games and are one of the best-formed teams in the Championship. Only Sheffield and Norwich have taken more points than the Clarets so far.

Nonetheless, Burnley FC are rated as underdogs on this matchday. WBA have not lost at “The Hawthorns” for a season-high seven consecutive must-win games. If the Baggies can extend their home streak against the Clarets, West Brom vs Burnley betting odds of 2.30 are paid out for tip 1.

During the week, WBA drew at Wigan. Burnley FC had won 5-1 away from home against the same opponents less than a week ago. The Clarets therefore have the edge over West Brom in the cross-table comparison.

West Brom – Statistics & current form

The Baggies have made a false start so far and have just one win to their name after seven days in the Championship. Consequently, West Bromwich Albion have stayed out of the promotion places in the league and are even in mid-table before the clash with Burnley FC.

If WBA can prevail against their promotion rivals, West Brom vs. Burnley betting odds of 2.30 will not only pay out for tip 1. The Baggies can also claim seventh place in the Championship in the best possible scenario – a win, with at least a two-goal lead.

Home advantage at The Hawthorns comes in handy. Season-to-date, WBA have not lost a match at home since April 2022. The 2022/23 season started with two draws and two wins at home. One of the two wins came in the last home match against Hull, where WBA scored as many as five goals (5:2).

Can WBA defy the Clarets offence?

Against their upcoming opponents, the Baggies will be looking to extend their current streak at “The Hawthorns”. In the last nine home games against Burnley FC, West Brom have only lost once. In return, there have been six wins for WBA in that period. The last time was in November 2016, when West Brom won 4-0 against the Clarets.

With head coach Steve Bruce’s side disappointing against Wigan during the week, bets are nevertheless on a home win for West Brom v Burnley. Bruce will at least be spared any personnel worries for the encounter against the Clarets and has no serious absentees.

After the poor performance against Wigan, changes in the Baggies’ starting eleven cannot be ruled out. Internally, Karlan Grant currently leads the scoring charts at WBA. The youngster has already scored three goals in the Baggies’ shirt and therefore remains in the starting eleven against Burnley.

Burnley – Statistics & current form

Burnley FC go into Friday’s Championship game in fine form and, if successful, have the chance to take top spot in the English second division for the time being. Rivals Sheffield (1st) and Norwich (2nd) will not be in action until the weekend.

The Clarets have already tanked up on confidence in their last three competitive games and have found their way back to winning ways after a mini crisis that saw them fail to win four matches in a row. After a cup win against Shrewsbury (1:0), Burnley FC won against Wigan (5:1) and Millwall (2:0).

Head coach Vincent Kompany’s team climbed to third place. The goals scored by the relegated PL side have been particularly praiseworthy so far. After seven match days, Burnley FC have already scored 13 goals. Statistically, the Clarets have the second best attack in the league. Only Sheffield have scored more goals (14) than Burnley

Will Burnley remain unbeaten against WBA again?

The goal rate in the Championship is surprising, as last season Burnley had one of the weakest attacking divisions in the English top flight. It is quite possible that the recent statistics will also be underpinned against the upcoming opponents WBA.

Burnley FC remained unbeaten in their last three competitive matches against West Brom, including two matches at the Baggies’ “The Hawthorns”. Burnley even won one of the two away games at West Bromwich. If the next win beckons on Friday night, West Brom vs. Burnley betting odds of 3.30 are paid out for a tip on the Clarets.

Like WBA, Burnley will also be spared major personnel worries. The Clarets are expected to start the match against West Brom with a similar starting eleven as they did against Millwall FC during the week.

Predicted line-up of Burnley:
Peacock-Farrell; Roberts, Harwood-Bellis, Taylor, Vitinho; Brownhill, Cork, Cullen; Gudmundsson, Rodriguez, Tella

31/08/2022 – Burnley 2 – 0 Millwall

24/08/2022 – Shrewsbury 0 – 1 Burnley

West Brom – Burnley Direct comparison / H2H record

This is the 132nd time the two clubs have met. West Brom lead the head-to-head comparison so far with a record of 55-31-45. An average of 3.10 goals per game has been scored in the 131 meetings between the two clubs so far.

However, the last time the two clubs met in the PL was in the 2020/21 season and there was no high-scoring encounter in either the first or second legs. Both matches ended in a goalless draw. At home, West Brom have not won a home game against the Clarets since November 2016.

West Brom – Burnley Tip

West Brom are under pressure to win after a mixed start to the season. Friday’s opponents Burnley FC are, after all, among the promotion rivals in the Championship – especially in the battle for the two direct promotion places. Because WBA already failed against Wigan during the week, it cannot be ruled out that a win against the Clarets will also be lacking.

The visitors are in excellent form and have won three games in a row. Among other things, Burnley swept Wigan off the pitch and celebrated a 5-1 victory on foreign soil less than a week ago. If the Clarets carry the recent momentum with them, three points against WBA are not out of the question.

We definitely see value in the high quotes on an underdog coup and don’t rule out a Clarets surprise. Especially as Burnley have gone unbeaten in their last two away games at WBA anyway. Our betting odds for West Brom vs. Burnley are 3.30 on an away win. We select a moderate stake of four units for this.
