Will the Saxons win their fifth consecutive competitive match on the Weser?

Whatever the results that follow in the other stadiums on matchday 16, it is already clear that RB Leipzig will be in the Champions League this winter. The Red Bulls’ season to date can therefore be regarded as a success despite their early exit from the DFB Cup. SV Werder Bremen, on the other hand, have already lost eight of their first 15 league games (four wins, three draws), but with a five-point lead over the relegation places, they will still finish the winter above the line if Werder Bremen’s bet on an away win against RB Leipzig pays off

There is a lot to be said for the visitors, who have won ten of their 13 competitive matches against SVW so far (one draw, two defeats). RBL have also won four competitive matches in a row recently, while the North Germans have only won one of their last six Bundesliga matches (three draws, two defeats). Consequently, our prediction for Werder Bremen v RB Leipzig is an away win for the Red Bulls

However, if Marco Rose’s side have been vulnerable so far this season, it has been at away grounds. RB Leipzig have lost three of their seven Bundesliga away games so far in 2023/24 (four wins), while Werder Bremen may be the weakest away team in the Bundesliga (just two points out of a possible 21), but they have picked up 13 points out of a possible 24 at home.

SVW have also scored 14 goals at home (seventh best in the Bundesliga). As RBL have conceded at least one goal in each of their last ten competitive matches, it makes a lot of sense to bet on Leipzig to win away from home with goals on both sides

Werder Bremen – Statistics & current form

After a one-year interlude in the 2nd Bundesliga, four-time German champions SV Werder Bremen are now back in the top flight of German soccer for the second year in a row. The 2022/23 season also had its downsides. In the end, however, the club finished 13th and thus secured its place in the league.

The northern Germans also want nothing to do with relegation in the new season. However, having lost eight of their 15 league games so far, SVW are currently only 14th in the table. They have a fragile five-point lead over the relegation places. They are six points off 18th place

High discrepancy between home and away games

The fact that the Whites are stuck in the bottom third of the table is primarily due to their dismal away record. No other Bundesliga team has scored as poorly away from home as Werder (just two points out of a possible 21), who are the only club in the top flight of German soccer apart from Mainz not to have won away from home.

The fact that they can say goodbye to the 2023 calendar year with a home game now plays all the more into the North Germans’ hands. After all, they have won four of their eight league games at the Weser Stadium (one draw, three defeats). With 13 out of a possible 24 home points, SVW are tenth in the home table

Only won one of the last six Bundesliga matches

Despite this, the odds are heavily stacked against Werder Bremen against RB Leipzig, who have lost all of their last seven competitive matches against the Saxons. Ole Werner’s side have at least some momentum with four points out of a possible six from their last two league games.

Overall, however, the team from the Weser have only won one of their last six league games (three draws, two defeats), which is also due to the fact that their defense has been too vulnerable, conceding 29 goals in 15 league games. The fact that the two central defenders Friedl and Pieper are now also missing makes the task all the more difficult.

Predicted Werder Bremen line-up:

RB Leipzig – Statistics & current form

RB Leipzig have recently played two almost identical seasons in a row: twice in a row, the first half of the season was more or less a disaster, before a change of coach in the course of an impressive second half of the season not only led to fourth place and thus into the UEFA Champions League, but in both cases the DFB Cup was won under the new coach.

The 2023/24 season now breaks this streak. Not only have the Saxons already been eliminated from the cup, but Marco Rose is the first coach in three years to survive as Leipzig coach until the winter break, which is hardly surprising. Not only did the Red Bulls advance to the Champions League round of 16, but they also occupy third place in the table

Six points clear of fifth place

This makes the Saxons, who go into the final matchday of the 2023 calendar year with a six-point lead in fifth place, currently the closest rivals to the leading duo of Leverkusen and Bayern. Naturally, the Red Bulls are now waiting for another slip-up from the two high-flyers.

If Marco Rose’s side win away at Werder Bremen against RB Leipzig, the gap to first place could be reduced to four points, at least temporarily

Without a clean sheet in any of their last ten competitive matches

The fact that the Red Bulls have recently won four competitive matches in a row speaks in their favor. However, if the Saxons were vulnerable in the Bundesliga, it was away from home. All three of their defeats in the top flight of German soccer this season have come at away grounds.

With twelve out of a possible 21 points from seven Bundesliga away games, RBL nevertheless occupy a stable fourth place in the away table and are therefore the clear favorites on the Weser. However, in view of the fact that they have not kept a clean sheet in any of their last ten competitive matches, it is quite likely that Werder will at least score a goal.

Predicted line-up for RB Leipzig:

Werder Bremen – RB Leipzig head-to-head comparison / H2H result

Head to head: 2 – 1 – 10

There have been a total of 13 competitive matches between the two teams so far and RB Leipzig lead the direct comparison with ten wins. The Saxons have won the last seven consecutive meetings with the Weser eleven and also celebrated a 2-1 away win in the last visit to Bremen on November 12, 2022

Werder Bremen – RB Leipzig betting tip

The bookmakers’ odds for Werder Bremen v RB Leipzig are very clearly in favor of the Saxons, who have already scored more than twice as many points (32) as the northern Germans (15) so far this season. The Red Bulls have also won the last seven competitive matches in a row against Weserelf, but have also lost three of their seven Bundesliga away matches so far in the 2023/24 season (four wins). There may therefore be at least a small chance for Werder, who have picked up 13 out of a possible 24 points at home.

In the end, our prediction for Werder Bremen against RB Leipzig is an away win for the Saxons, although given the fact that RBL have always conceded at least one goal in their last ten competitive matches, at least a one-nil win for the visitors is not too likely. We therefore recommend betting on the Red Bulls to win with goals on both sides
