When will Werder beat the home curse?

Every season brings something new in the Bundesliga. Whether it’s newcomers making their debut in the top flight or new players playing in the first division for the first time. On this eighth matchday, Werder Bremen and Borussia Mönchengladbach face each other. Ole Werner on one side and Daniel Farke on the other are in their debut season in the Bundesliga as coaches.

Daniel Farke has done better so far, finishing in sixth place with the Niederrhein eleven. Twelve points mean equal points with FC Bayern and second place is only three points away. For such a constellation, the word “Tuchfühlung” has been adopted in footballing parlance.

Werder Bremen, as a promoted team, can also be satisfied with the season so far. Ole Werner’s team are in tenth place and have collected a respectable nine points. If they stay in this range until the end of the season, then they will be very satisfied on the Weser.

However, Bremen finally want to win another Bundesliga match at the Weser Stadium. With Gladbach, however, comes the fear opponent of recent years and even if the bookmakers are of a different opinion, we tend to bet on an away win for the Foals in this match between Werder Bremen and Gladbach.

Werder Bremen – Statistics & current form

Werder Bremen confirm once again this season what distinguishes a promoted team. Ole Werner’s team plays passionate football and displays extremely high morale. In four of the seven games this season, the team from the Weser scored after falling behind. This means that Bremen have already scored as many points from behind as they did in the entire relegation season of 2020/21.

The longing for a home win

However, the old problem of not being able to win in your own arena persists. Bremen have not won at the Weserstadion for nine Bundesliga games this season. In terms of staying in the league, it is precisely this home weakness that could still become a problem and that is why there is not much to suggest that you should play the odds on a home win between Werder Bremen and Gladbach.

In the last two games before the international break, it was only enough for one point. The 0:1 home defeat against Augsburg was bitter after Füllkrug missed a penalty in the final minute. On the other hand, there was a point in the 1-1 draw at Leverkusen, and that after going behind. Veljkovic equalised late on in the BayArena.

After the good performance in Leverkusen, there is much to suggest that Ole Werner will not make any major changes. This could mean that Bittencourt will have to sit on the bench again. However, the coach will not be able to avoid a change in central defence. Pieper is already serving a yellow suspension and will probably be replaced by Niklas Stark. But there are currently no injuries for the Bremen team.

Predicted line-up of Werder Bremen:
Pavlenka – Stark, Veljkovic, Friedl – Weiser, Groß, Jung – Schmid, Gruev – Füllkrug, Ducksch – Coach: Werner

Gladbach – Statistics & current form

Generally, the whole Borussia squad will probably be looking forward to the trip to Bremen, but Lars Stindl in particular travels to the Weser with positive feelings. The attacker has scored eight goals against SV Werder in the Bundesliga. The former international has not been more successful against any other club in the German top flight.

Away strong Foals

Generally, the team from the Lower Rhine is doing better away from home. Borussia have not lost any of their last seven away games in the Bundesliga. However, there is room for improvement in their current form, as the Foals have only won once in their last four games. Therefore, we would add DNB to our prediction for an away win in the match between Werder Bremen and Gladbach.

However, Daniel Farke’s team went into the international break with a very good feeling, because before that RB Leipzig were guests at Borussia-Park. The Gladbachers were convincing all along the line and won 3:0 without any problems. Jonas Hofmann put his team 2:0 in front with a brace before the break. Bensebaini put the game to bed after just over an hour with a goal to make it 3-0.

Daniel Farke will be hoping that Alassane Plea can at least be part of the squad again after overcoming a torn muscle fibre. Thuram, however, should certainly be fit for action after calf problems. This means that Borussia will only have to do without three players on Saturday in Bremen. Hannes Wolf, Ko Itakura and Florian Neuhaus are all injured.

Predicted line-up of Gladbach:
Sommer – Scally, Friedrich, Elvedi, Bensebaini – Weigl, Kone – Hofmann, Kramer, Stindl – Thuram – Coach: Farke

Werder Bremen – Gladbach Tip

The outcome of a football match is often difficult to predict. In the duel between Bremen and Gladbach, however, the indications consolidate into a very clear picture. Werder Bremen are behind the Foals in the table and have only picked up one point from their last two games. Moreover, SVW has not won in nine home games in the Bundesliga.

Gladbach’s strengths currently lie away from home and they are undefeated in the top flight for seven matches. In addition, they have a broad chest before the international break with the 3-0 win against Leipzig.

Furthermore, Gladbach have become a fearful opponent for Bremen and have not lost to Werder for eleven games. In the last five guest games at the Weser, Borussia picked up 13 of a possible 15 points. Nevertheless, we reduce the risk a little and play the betting odds on an away win with DNB in the match Werder Bremen vs Gladbach.
