Will VfB Stuttgart temporarily climb to the top of the table?

Serhou Guirassy’s star is shining brighter than any other in the Bundesliga at the moment. The 27-year-old is the first player in 56 years to score eight (!) goals in the first four matchdays of the new season. The centre-forward’s outstanding haul is thus symbolic of the great performances VfB Stuttgart have put in so far in the German top flight.

The Swabians have already collected nine points, making it their best Bundesliga start in 19 years. On Friday evening, coach Sebastian Hoeneß’ team will now open the fifth BL matchday.

If the bet on a home win in VfB Stuttgart’s clash against Darmstadt proves correct, Guirassy and Co. would take over the top spot in the Beletage of German football for at least one night. Due to the remarkable goal difference, even a draw would suffice.

Measured against the automatically increased demands of the host, which are reflected in the one-sided odds on the three-way market between VfB Stuttgart and Darmstadt, a draw in front of the home crowd, however, actually already seems too little for Guirassy and Co. Especially in view of the fact that the Lilien, one of the hottest relegation candidates, are coming to the MHPArena. The SVD98 have never been able to beat their upcoming opponents in their own Bundesliga history…

VfB Stuttgart – statistics & current form

VfB Stuttgart are definitely one of the positive surprises in the still young Bundesliga season so far. Three wins from the first four games would probably have been the least expected of the traditional club, which has been struggling to stay in the league for the past two seasons. At least as pleasing as the best points tally since 2004/05 is the very attractive and courageous style of play with which the Swabians are causing a sensation in the top flight.

As many as 14 of their own goals have already been scored. This means that VfB currently has the best offensive performance in the league and the second-best goal difference behind Leipzig, who are level on points. As already mentioned in the introduction, the white and red team could temporarily take over the top of the table on Friday evening. The prerequisite for this is that the forecast for a home win in the duel between VfB Stuttgart and Darmstadt comes true.

Will Guirassy also score against Darmstadt?

The chances are again very good, as both home games so far this season against Bochum and Friday were won 5-0 by last year’s 16th-placed team! Never before has a Bundesliga team had a better goal difference after two games in front of a home crowd. Moreover, the Swabians are now still unbeaten in six BL home games under Sebastian Hoeneß. In our eyes, it is therefore obvious to check the odds between VfB Stuttgart and Darmstadt not only for a home win, but also for a handicap victory with at least a two-goal difference.

We also place value in betting on Serhou Guirassy as the goalscorer. The league’s current top scorer is in sensational form, needed exactly eight shots on goal for his eight goals and scored the most goals in the German top flight in the past calendar year, i.e. in the period from September 2022 until today (19).

The 1.80 for another goal by the French-born centre-forward, who plays for the Guinean national team, is quite interesting. Especially since a corresponding tip can also be played regardless of Stuttgart’s weakness against newcomers. VfB have not won any of their last seven Bundesliga games against promoted teams (five draws, two defeats)

Predicted line-up of VfB Stuttgart:

VfB Stuttgart (Expected line-up) 4-2-3-1

Darmstadt – Statistics & current form

Although only four matchdays have been played, the air is getting thinner for Darmstadt 98 and Torsten Lieberknecht. After all, the Lilies finally managed to register their first point of the season the previous week. In retrospect, however, the 3:3 at home against Borussia Mönchengladbach felt more like a defeat, as the southern Hessians were already 3:0 in front after a fantastic first half and conceded three goals after a controversial sending-off.

The Darmstadt side, who also lost in the first round of the DFB Cup to regional league side Homburg, have only won one of their last nine competitive matches. Away from home, the SVD have lost five games in a row. Something that hasn’t happened for the Blue and Whites for around seven years now.

Darmstadt must continue to work on stability

Despite this, the good performance in the first 45 minutes against the Foals gave hope, even though the bottom line is the weakest points tally in the club’s Bundesliga history after four matchdays. Apart from that, the defence has still failed to prove that it can keep up with the increased level one level higher. With 13 goals conceded, the Lilien currently have the most vulnerable defence in the league.

However, because the Southern Hessians, who are particularly dangerous when it comes to standards and transitional play, have scored at least once in three of their four league games and their offensive output of five goals is absolutely satisfactory, they have to start playing against the ball.

The reigning second-division champions can only expect to stay in the league if the average number of total goals per game is significantly reduced. Currently, this figure is more than four goals scored in matches involving the blue and whites. However, since an immediate change is not to be expected, the odds on the over 2.5 between VfB Stuttgart and Darmstadt also find a place in our top betting table.

Predicted line-up of Darmstadt:

Darmstadt (Expected line-up) 3-5-2

VfB Stuttgart – Darmstadt Direct Comparison / H2H Balance

The two clubs have only played six matches at the highest national level so far. VfB Stuttgart have won four of these six matches. There have also been two draws. Darmstadt are therefore still waiting for their first Bundesliga win against the Swabians. There is not much to suggest that this will change on Friday evening.

VfB Stuttgart – Darmstadt tip

Different tempers clash on Friday evening as the 5th matchday kicks off in the Bundesliga. On the one hand, there are the fabulous Swabians, who have won three of their first four league games, scored ten (!) goals in two home games and have the hottest striker in their own ranks in Serhou Guirassy.

On the other side are the still winless Lilien, who have won only one of their last nine competitive games and currently have the weakest defence in the top flight with 13 goals conceded. Unsurprisingly, the betting odds between Stuttgart and Darmstadt are clearly in favour of the home side, who have also never lost a first league match against the SVD in six attempts.

But because the highest odds for a home win on the three-way market don’t even come close to 1.50, we even decided to place a tip on the handicap victory of the favourites between Stuttgart and Darmstadt. We believe that the Swabians will win their home match with at least a two-goal difference, and place a bet of five units on the offered 2.10.
