Do the Swabians manage a small liberation?

In the summer of 2020, Stuttgart and Bielefeld were promoted together from the 2nd Bundesliga to the top flight of German football. Both subsequently managed to stay in the league. And both are now in the usually more difficult second year, in which the departure of several key players must be compensated for.

The Swabians have managed the latter much better so far. Stuttgart are in 13th place with ten points from ten games, while the visitors from East Westphalia are still winless and four points behind the relegation zone. Accordingly, in the run-up to the match between VfB Stuttgart and Bielefeld, the odds are swinging in favour of the home side.

In addition, the Swabians have a very good home record against Arminia. Of the 21 home games against Bielefeld so far, twelve games have been won (seven draws, two defeats). In view of the fact that the Arminians have lost five of their last six competitive matches, betting on a home win for the white and red team is very playable for VfB Stuttgart against Bielefeld.

VfB Stuttgart – Statistics & current form

VfB Stuttgart finished the past season in the top half of the table in a rock-solid ninth place. However, after several departures, the Swabians have not yet been able to build on this strong form.

Last weekend, VfB slipped back into the lower third of the table after a 1:4 defeat at FC Augsburg. It is true that the white and red team lost for the first time in four matchdays (one win, three draws). However, there is only one win on record in the last nine matches.

Avoid home defeat at any cost

The spectre of relegation is not yet haunting the Baden-Württemberg capital. Although their lead over the relegation places shrank to one point after the 4-1 defeat in Augsburg, Pellegrino Matarazzo’s men still have a five-point lead over the first relegation place.

However, because today’s guests from East Westphalia occupy precisely that place in the table, things could quickly get really dark again for VfB in the event of a home defeat against the Arminians, who must avoid a home defeat at all costs and better still need a home treble for a bit of peace of mind.

Question marks over Mavropanos and Kempf

The White-Red’s record against Arminia at least suggests that tip 1 will work out for VfB Stuttgart against Bielefeld. Of the 21 home games against the East Westphalians so far, only two matches have been lost (twelve wins, seven draws).

However, the question of whether the stricken defensive duo of Konstantinos Mavropanos and Marc Oliver Kempf can play on Saturday is also problematic. Both centre-backs are not only important for defensive stability. With three goals each, both are also the current top scorers of the White-Red…

Bielefeld – Statistics & current form

Arminia Bielefeld were unexpectedly promoted to the Beletage of German football in the summer of 2020 as champions of the 2. Bundesliga and, after a change of coach with a strong final spurt under Frank Kramer, still managed to stay in the Bundesliga in the end as 15th in the final table.

However, the East Westphalians also lost a number of key players, which means that the Black-White-Blue team is facing a very complicated season. A look at the first interim results shows that it would be difficult to stay in the league again. After ten matchdays, the Arminen are still waiting for their first win.

Four points behind the saving shore

Never before in the 18 seasons to date have the East Westphalians been without a win at this point in the season, although there have been five defeats and five draws. With these five points, the Arminen are already four points behind the save shore, but they are not yet as far behind as last-place Fürth, who are also still winless.

Nevertheless, Frank Kramer’s team needs its first win as soon as possible in order to experience calmer times. The turnaround at VfB Stuttgart would come just in time for the international break.

The worst offence in the Bundesliga

The big shortcoming of the black-white-blue team, however, is that their offence hardly stings. Bielefeld have only scored six goals in the ten matchdays so far, making Kramer’s eleven the weakest offensive team in the Bundesliga. Although there has always been exactly one goal in the last three league games, it has not yet been enough for a three-goal win.

Accordingly, the East Westphalians travel to the Baden-Württemberg capital as underdogs.

VfB Stuttgart – Bielefeld Direct comparison / H2H balance

Head to head: 19 – 11 – 11

There have been a total of 41 meetings between the two teams so far and the Swabians lead the direct comparison with 19 victories. Especially in Baden-Württemberg, there has been little to burn so far. From 21 home games, the White and Reds have only lost two games against the Bielefelders.

VfB Stuttgart – Bielefeld tip

When it comes to VfB Stuttgart vs Bielefeld, our prediction is not only influenced by the “head to head” comparison, but also by the current form of both teams. Both clubs suffered a defeat last weekend. For the Swabians, however, it was the first lost league match after four games in a row without a defeat, while Arminia are still completely winless after ten matchdays.

The East Westphalians have been particularly disappointing offensively so far, with only six goals from their first ten games, which is why we see the greatest value in betting on a home win for the White and Reds.
