Will the SGE take the Europa League momentum with them?

As things stand, Eintracht Frankfurt would have missed out on qualifying for another European competition as they sit ninth in the table. Curiously, however, the Hessians have been given an unexpected loophole. After the 3:2 away win in Barcelona, the Eagles are in the semifinals of the Europa League and could even qualify for the Champions League with an overall victory in this competition.

With an away win, the team from the Main metropolis could also move to within two points of seventh-placed Union Berlin in the league. However, the Eisernen have recently shown themselves to be a little stronger and, after their clear derby victory at city rivals Hertha, are similarly self-confident going into the 30th matchday. In the run-up to the match between Union Berlin and Frankfurt, the odds are in favour of the capital city side

It should be noted, however, that the SGE is very strong away from home. The Hessians are the only team in the 18 Bundesliga to have won more points away from home (22) than at home (17). In addition, the Eisernen have not yet won any of their six home games against Eintracht (two draws, four defeats).

Union Berlin – Statistics & current form

1. FC Union Berlin played a very convincing first half of the season. Although the Köpenicker did not make it past the preliminary round on their debut in the UEFA Conference League, they set the course early on in league play for another season in international competition.

There were one or two lulls in the second half of the season. But the bottom line is still seventh place. The 44 points from the 29 league games so far even match the personal best of the capital city team, who had one point less on their account at this time a year ago.

Winning two league games in a row for the first time since Kruse’s departure

Never the less, the sale of Max Kruse in the winter break reverberated for a long time, after which the Köpenickers lacked punch time and again, especially in their forward play. For the first time since his departure, Union have now won two league games in a row.

The fewest home defeats in the Bundesliga

With the momentum from two wins in a row and the broad chest from the derby win, Urs Fischer’s men now go into the home match against the SGE, against whom, however, they have never been able to record a win in their own stadium in six attempts so far (two draws, four defeats).

Accordingly, it is difficult to bet on Union Berlin against Frankfurt against the Köpenicker, who are generally strong at home and have only been defeated twice at home in 14 league games – the best record in the league.

Predicted line-up of Union Berlin:

Frankfurt – Statistics & current form

Eintracht Frankfurt finished fifth in the Bundesliga last summer, qualifying for the Europa League, where the SGE so spectacularly advanced to the semifinals in the 2018/19 season, where it was only a penalty shootout that saw the end of the line against eventual overall winners Chelsea.

Now, too, the Eagles fully embraced the competition, which is often treated stepmotherly by many other clubs, and pulled off the surprise during the week when, in front of 20,000 accompanying Frankfurt fans, a 3-2 away win over big Barcelona saw them through to the semi-finals.

Winless in three league games in a row

But before the SGE turn all their eyes to their next opponents West Ham United, they need to collect more points in the Bundesliga. After all, things haven’t gone too well in this competition so far in the second half of the season. The only twelve points from the twelve games in the second half of the season correspond to Frankfurt’s weakest haul in five years.

Most recently, the Hessians remained winless in three league games in a row (two draws, one defeat), with the goalless draw at home against bottom-placed Greuther Fürth particularly painful. They are currently five points adrift of sixth place.

Frankfurt took 56% of all points scored away from home

Nevertheless, there is a lot to be said for the Adler in this guest game at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei, who bring plenty of self-confidence with them after their spectacular victory at the Camp Nou. In addition, the SGE is the only Bundesliga team to have won more points away from home than at home.

The Hessians have also never lost an away game at the Eisernen before, which is why it is quite surprising that the bookmakers are giving the Glasner eleven the clear underdog role.

Union Berlin – Frankfurt Direct comparison / H2H-Balance

Head to head: 1 – 4 – 7

Twelve times both teams have faced each other in a competitive match so far and seven times the Eintracht won, who also won the first leg 2-1. In six attempts, the Eisernen have never won a home match against the SGE (two draws, four defeats).

Union Berlin – Frankfurt Tip

In principle, the prediction for Union Berlin against Frankfurt goes slightly in the direction of the SGE, who have never lost at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei in six away games. However, this is offset by the home strength of the Eisern. No team has lost fewer home games than the Köpenicker, who also have the momentum of a derby win and have won two league games in a row for the first time since January.

The three-way system is correspondingly vague in this duel, which is why we are switching to betting on both teams scoring in the course of the 90 minutes.
