Will Tottenham regain the top of the table?

Tottenham Hotspur Football Club continues to be one of the positive surprises of the still young Premier League season. Coach Ange Postecoglou’s men went into the international break as league leaders. After Manchester City set the tone with a narrow home win over Brighton at the weekend, Spurs will now look to follow suit again on Monday night and reclaim the top spot in the standings.

In order to climb back to first position, the betting on the Lily Whites must come true in the match between Tottenham and Fulham, meanwhile a draw would not be enough. However, if you believe the odds of the bookmakers, then the home victory of Son and Co. seems to be a mere formality. Highest odds of 1.50 on the three-pointer of the host underline the overwhelming favorite role of THFC, which incidentally won 13 of the past 15 PL duels against the upcoming opponent.

By the way, this is a real London city derby, which could sometimes prove problematic especially for the guests. In those duels against other teams from the English capital, the Whites have looked anything but good in the recent past. Not least because of this, there is much to suggest that in the encounter Tottenham against Fulham a prediction on the home victory pays off. In order to drive the corresponding odds a little bit up, there are some possibilities, which we explain in more detail in the following paragraphs.

Tottenham – statistics & current form

There are currently still two clubs in the Premier League that have not suffered a single defeat this season. In addition to Arsenal FC, who almost lost for the first time at Chelsea on Saturday (2-2), this is also true of Tottenham Hotspur Football Club, who have picked up 20 points out of a possible 24 from eight completed matches. Among other things, the Londoners have already defeated Liverpool and Arsenal in direct duels this season.

If the Capitals, who were predicted to have a complicated round in the summer following the departure of Harry Kane, are victorious in their home match on Monday night, they would once again take over at the top of the table. In the course of the season so far, there have also been three victories in three games in front of their own fans. The chances are accordingly good, although from the point of view of the Lily Whites one should not always rely on the last minute strength. In fact, two of the three home victories mentioned above required stoppage-time goals to leave the pitch as winners

Tottenham’s offense knows how to impress

That, however, should in no way diminish the very positive impressions of Spurs. Hyeung-Min Son and Co. have already fired 153 shots towards goal in the first eight matchdays. By comparison, no other team has scored more than 135 goals.

The showpiece is definitely the offense, which scored at least twice in seven of the eight matches mentioned. The only exception was the narrow 1-0 away win at promoted Luton Town just before the international break. In view of these figures, it is still worth considering combining the odds for the home win with the over 1.5 in the duel Tottenham vs Fulham.

By the way, an equally exciting point is that the Tottenham eleven can be called real Monday experts. Of the past 16 matches that fell on a Monday, the Lily Whites celebrated eleven victories, recorded four draws and drew only once. That impressive run looks set to continue on Monday night as the ninth round of matches in England’s top flight draws to a close.

Predicted Tottenham lineup:

Fulham – statistics & current form

Fulham Football Club is playing an average season so far. The balance reads absolutely balanced with three wins and three defeats each and two draws. 13th place in the standings speaks for classic mediocrity, although the Londoners would even have the opportunity to jump into the top half of the table with a surprise coup at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Monday night.

In this context, it would certainly be helpful if coach Marco Silva’s team could build on its performance before the international break. At home, they deservedly beat Sheffield United 3-1 thanks to a strong second half. After two previous goalless matches, it was important for the capital club to make a statement offensively. With a total of only eight goals scored, FFC still has one of the most harmless attacking lines in the league.

Fulham and the crux of city derbies

Making matters worse heading into Monday, the Whites have a very poor record in London derbies. Fulham have now waited ten city duels for a three-pointer. In the review of the past 21 away appearances with other London clubs only one victory stands at all to book. Consequently, it would be an immense gamble to predict that this curse will come to an end against the in-form Spurs.

It’s also worth mentioning that Fulham have already lost 5-1 at Manchester City this season. Arsenal earned a flattering point, but it was a very fortunate one. So it will take a bit of luck to get a result against the Lily Whites. However, the last direct duels against Tottenham are not really encouraging, especially as the visitors have not scored more than one goal in any of the past 17 matches against their upcoming opponents. If Postecoglou’s team can be expected to score at least twice again, the next defeat will be imminent.

Predicted Fulham lineup:

Tottenham – Fulham Direct comparison / H2H balance

Tottenham has a great record against Fulham in recent years. Spurs have won 13 of the past 15 PL encounters against the Whites. There has also been a treble at home in six of the past eight meetings.

Last season, Tottenham won the home leg 2-1 and also took all three points from Craven Cottage thanks to a 1-0 scoreline. The opponent seems to suit the Lily White well, which once again underlines why such low odds on the home win are offered between Tottenham and Fulham.

Tottenham – Fulham Tip

The ninth matchday in England’s elite league will be concluded on Monday evening by two clubs from London. While Spurs could return to the top of the table with a win, it is for the Whites to make with the second three in a row, the connection to the international ranks. However, the hosts are the clear favorites. In the Tottenham vs Fulham match, betting odds in the range of 1.50 are offered on the home win.

The advantages of the Postecoglou eleven are obvious. In the first eight matchdays, there have already been six wins and only two draws. All three home games have been victorious and in seven of the eight games they have scored at least two goals of their own. Add to that the fact that the Lily Whites have won 13 of the past 15 direct PL duels against Fulham.

We therefore try it between Tottenham and Fulham with the tip that the home side will have the upper hand and also score at least two goals in the course of the game. For this, a top odds of 1.65 is offered, which we play very confidently with eight units.
