Will Almeria remain winless again?

Nine matchdays before the end of the season, there is still no clear promotion favorite in the second Spanish league. Eibar leads La Liga 2 with 62 points on the account, but numerous pursuers sit close behind the Basque leader. Among them is Tenerife, currently fourth in the second division.

The soccer club from the Canary Islands seized the opportunity last week to punish its direct rivals for promotion, Valladolid and Almeria, by dropping points. Against the latter, there is now Monday night in the six-point game the chance to reduce the gap on a direct promotion place.

CD Tenerife even benefits from home advantage. At the Estadio Heliodoro Rodríguez López, the Canary club has won eight of 15 home games so far. Nonetheless, it is bold to place a bet on the host from the Canaries in Tenerife vs. Almeria. Since February 2017, Tenerife has not won a single home match against their upcoming opponents.

In the first leg of the current season, Tenerife already lost the first duel of the season against the Andalusian club with 1:3. It is quite possible that now the next defeat against the “Rojiblancos” will follow. Tenerife has already suffered three home defeats in a row against the visitors from Andalusia.

Tenerife – Statistics & current form

Tenerife has overcome the mini-crisis for the time being. After two defeats in a row, the club from the Canary Islands had a narrow victory at Gijon. The win not only extended the Blanquiazules’ lead over their pursuers, but also reduced the gap between them and a direct promotion spot.

Tenerife is currently in fourth place after 31 match days and would “only” qualify for the playoffs. Because second place in the table is still within reach, the Canary Islanders still have realistic hopes of direct promotion to the Spanish top flight.

The upcoming match will be particularly important in this regard. After all, CD Tenerife has a six-point game against the second-placed team in La Liga 2 coming up on Monday evening. Although “Tete” benefits from the home advantage, there is little optimism in the run-up to the upcoming home match.

Does Tenerife lose again against a direct promotion rival?

Not only because the “Blanquiazules” have already lost the last home match against Valladolid, but also because the last three home matches at the Estadio Heliodoro Rodríguez López against the upcoming opponent always went to shit. The victory at a potential relegation candidate like Gijon should not be overrated in view of Monday’s match.

Compared to their recent opponents, the direct promotion rivals from Andalusia have completely different options, especially on the offensive. Monday’s opponents have the best offense in La Liga 2, and considering how weak the Canary Islands host’s defensive line has been in recent weeks, Tenerife is already doomed to failure, so to speak.

In the last three matches, “Tete” conceded a total of seven goals. Statistically, the fourth-placed team from the Canary Islands nevertheless continues to have the strongest defensive bulwark in the league. Head coach Luis Miguel Ramis can draw on a full complement of players for Monday’s clash against the Andalusian visitors. Only Munoz and Sipcic are not available.

Predicted lineup of Tenerife:
Soriano – Pomares, Leon, Ruiz, Moore – Bermejo, Sanz, Corredera, Mollejo – Zorrilla, Gonzalez

03/13 2022 – Sporting Gijon 1 – 2 Tenerife

02/26 2022 – CD Mirandes 2 – 1 Tenerife

Almeria – Statistics & current form

The last time the “Rojiblancos” from Andalusia were represented in the Spanish top flight was in the 2014/15 season. Since then, UD Almeria has bumbled around in the second Spanish league and has even had to fear for its chances of staying in the league. It was only in the last two seasons that things started to look up for the Andalusians.

In the 2019/20 and 2020/21 seasons, the “Rojiblancos” only missed out on promotion back to the top flight of Spanish soccer in the promotion playoffs. This time around, Almeria have a realistic chance of securing promotion during the regular season. To do so, the Andalusian representative only has to successfully defend second place.

After 31 match days, UD Almeria already has 59 points on its account. Although head coach Rubi’s team has not won any of its last two matches in La Liga 2, the runner-up from Andalusia has successfully defended its direct promotion spot. However, the lead over Valladolid, currently third in the league, is just one point.

Does Almeria celebrate their next victory at their Canary Islands league rivals?

If the recent record in Tenerife is anything to go by, Monday’s game certainly comes in handy for the “Rojiblancos”. In the last three away games against CD Tenerife, UD Almeria celebrated three wins in a row. Almeria has now been unbeaten at its upcoming opponent for almost five years.

If the series continues with another win, betting odds of 2.90 for tip 2 in Tenerife vs. Almeria beckon. Head coach Rubi’s team has a record of 7-2-6 away from home after 15 games so far. Statistically, the second-placed team from Andalusia is thus the third strongest away team in the league.

Only Eibar and Tenerife have scored more points away from home than the Rojiblancos. In contrast to Monday’s opponents, the guests from Andalusia will be missing a total of five players due to injury. The most serious of these are the absences in the back line, after all, three of five center backs currently have to take a break.

Predicted lineup of Almeria:
Martinez – Akieme, Babic, Ely, Pozo – de la Hoz, Costa – Ramazani, Puigmal, Portillo – Sadiq

Last matches of Almeria:

LaLiga2
03/12 2022 – Almeria 3 – 3 Lugo

03/04 2022 – Real Zaragoza 2 – 0 Almeria

02/25 2022 – Almeria 3 – 1 Fuenlabrada

02/20 2022 – Almeria 2 – 1 CD Mirandes

02/12 2022 – Malaga 0 – 1 Almeria

Tenerife – Almeria Direct comparison / H2H balance

This is the 24th time the two clubs have met in the second division. So far, the direct comparison is even after 23 matches in La Liga 2. Both teams landed eight wins each, while seven other matches ended in a draw. However, CD Tenerife has not won against its Andalusian league rival since July 2020.

Since then, UD Almeria has won three in a row, including the first duel of the current season, in which the “Rojiblancos” even won 3:1 against CD Tenerife. In the process, a prediction of over 2.5 goals paid off between Tenerife vs. Almeria for the first time since July 2020.

Tenerife vs Almeria prediction

Although Almeria stumbled in the last two matchdays, the Andalusian representative is still one of the hottest promotion candidates this season. In addition to a strong defensive bulwark – statistically the second-strongest defensive line in the league – the “Rojiblancos” offense shone above all.

On average, the second-placed team from Andalusia scored 1.61 goals per league game. No other team in La Liga 2 can boast a better goal rate. On Monday night, those offensive qualities will be put to the test as Almeria face the strongest defensive bulwark in the league in a six-point game.

After two defeats in a row, Tenerife showed an act of defiance and took three important points against Gijon. Nevertheless, we think it is more than daring to place a prediction on a point win for the “Blanquiazules” on Monday evening. Especially since Tenerife lost the last three home games against Monday’s opponents from Andalusia.

We therefore do not rule out another defeat for the Canary Islands hosts and dare to bet on the visitors in Tenerife vs. Almeria.
