Will Sevilla keep alive the dream of a seventh EL triumph?

The Puskas Arena in Budapest can seat almost 67,000 spectators and will be the venue for this year’s UEFA Europa League final. The final will take place on 31 May – in just under two weeks’ time.

The two participants will be determined in two exciting semi-finals on Thursday evening. Among others, the record winner from Andalusia can dream of a seventh EL triumph. For Sevilla vs. Juventus, odds of 1.70 are offered on the “To Qualify” of the Spaniards. A progress of the Italian traditional club brings accordingly more than double the stake.

The starting position is therefore relatively open, which is not surprising given the 1-1 draw in the first leg last Thursday. The dress rehearsal at the weekend in the domestic championship was positive for both teams and they celebrated a victory without conceding a goal.

The slight tendency towards the six-time UEFA Europa League title holders is based on home strength. Especially internationally, the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium is a real fortress. For Sevilla against Juventus, the prediction on the home win in regular time brings betting odds in the range of 2.50.

Sevilla – Statistics & current form

What a season for the Andalusians. The fans, who were used to success, experienced a true horror autumn and at times even had to fear still being in the first division next season. After 17 match days, the team was in penultimate place in the table. Julen Lopetegui had to leave in October, but his successor Jorge Sampaoli was unable to turn things around.

Nevertheless, this season seems to have come to a conciliatory end, because since Jose Luis Mendilibar took over, things have been running like clockwork. In the meantime, the turnaround has been achieved and the red and whites from Seville no longer have relegation worries, but have established themselves in the midfield of LaLiga. As tenth in the table, they are only one point behind seventh place. However, renewed qualification for Europe is only possible via a seventh UEFA Europa League win.

18 EL home games without defeat

Once again, the club impresses in the second most important club competition. The statistics in this competition could hardly be more impressive. The progress in the quarter-finals against Real Madrid was highly deserved and the Red Devils suffered a 3-0 defeat at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium.

Home strength is also the biggest argument for progressing this Thursday. Sevilla have now gone 18 home games without defeat in the Europa League, winning no fewer than 16 of them. An impressive statistic that justifies betting on a home win between Sevilla and Juventus.

Self-confidence also speaks in favour of the hosts. Since the aforementioned Jose Luis Mendilibar has been in charge, the Andalusians have averaged 2.18 points per game in eleven competitive matches. Seven wins, three draws and only one defeat are on record during his tenure.

Juventus – Statistics & current form

The Old Lady from Turin also started the season in the top flight and must now be content with the Europa League. However, the performances of Allegri’s eleven clearly show that the Europa League is now also taken seriously by the renowned top teams.

For the Bianconeri, it is also the last chance to win a title in the 2022/23 season. The team is currently in second place in the domestic championship. However, the sword of Damocles of the possible points deduction still hangs over Juventus. Should the -15 points become current again, the Old Lady would have missed out on the top division.

Away clearly weaker

Accordingly, Juventus’ focus is also on the Europa League, as a win in Budapest on 31 May would put the top flight beyond their reach. But before the fans can flirt with the final, the enormously difficult hurdle in Sevilla in Andalusia must be overcome. The draw in the first leg was already flattering, but the task in Spain will be even more difficult.

This is not only because of the aforementioned home strength of the Spaniards, but also because of the weak performances of the Italians on foreign grounds. In 2022/23, Allegri’s team celebrated only eight victories in 17 league away games and conceded no less than six defeats. While 38 goals were scored at home, only 16 were scored away from home. This is an average of less than one goal per match.

In the 2-0 win against relegated Cremonese, Paul Pogba celebrated his comeback, but had to be replaced after 24 minutes in tears due to injury again. In addition to Pogba, veteran Leonardo Bonucci will also be unavailable. Two serious absences that once again underline the tip on the Spaniards in Sevilla vs. Juventus.

Sevilla – Juventus Direct comparison / H2H balance

Before last weekend’s first leg, the two clubs have only ever crossed paths in the UEFA Champions League. Both in the 2015/16 season and a year later in 2016/17, this clash took place in the group stage.

The Old Lady won two of the four matches, with one game ending in a draw and one in a Sevilla victory. Last Thursday, it looked like an away win for the Mendilibar eleven for a long time, but defender Federico Gatti was able to score the lucky Juve goal in minute 90+7.

Sevilla – Juventus Tip

During their 18 Europa League home games without defeat, the Andalusians have faced the odd easier opponent, but most recently the Red Devils were sent home with an emphatic thrashing. The Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium is a fortress and the Europa League is tailor-made for the Andalusians. We are confident that the prediction on Sevilla vs. Juventus will be the right one for the Spanish team to reach the final.

Last Thursday only seconds were missing for the victory, this time the Mendilibar eleven will fix the final in the regular playing time. With this thesis, we see very good chances of success and therefore recommend the prediction on the home victory in the Europa League semi-final between Sevilla and Juventus with a bet of five units.
