Duell zweier starker Defensiven!

The second matchday in the new year is coming up in the top flight of Spanish football! Sevilla will receive the team from Getafe. The visitors started 2022 with a bang: They beat the league leaders Real Madrid 1:0 in the derby! A victory that naturally pleased the hosts as they are in the championship race.

The “Nervionenses” also successfully mastered their own task at the start of the year in the shape of an away win at Cadiz. Thanks to this success, their status as the Madrilenians’ closest rivals was confirmed. For the match at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán between Sevilla and Getafe, the forecast is for less than three goals in the course of the match.

Sevilla – Statistics & current form

The Andalusians have only won the championship in the top Iberian division once in their history. The success also dates back a whopping 76 years! But fans of last year’s fourth-placed team are currently dreaming of an end to the drought.

Coach Julen Lopetegui’s team is five points behind leaders Real Madrid and, compared to Ancelotti’s team, Sevilla has played one game less. An important reason for the successful season of the “Hispalenses” so far is their solid defence. They have conceded only 13 goals in 19 league games – the best record in La Liga.

Sevilla is unbeaten at home

In the upcoming match, Sevilla can also rely on the home bonus. They have not yet lost any of their nine home matches this season! A performance that only Vallecano and Real Madrid can boast. Moreover, the “Blanquirrojos” usually set the course for a victory in the first period of the match.

Six of their seven home victories have come with an interval lead! In light of this, betting on another home win, including a lead at the break, is an additional option in the clash between Sevilla and Getafe.

En-Nesyri will probably have to pass on

In the offensive, however, Youssef En-Nesyri, an enormously important attacker, is currently missing. Without the Moroccan, the forward play is lacking. This can be seen from a yield of only six goals in the past five league games, three of which were won minimally with 1:0.

It is not yet clear whether En-Nesyri will be able to make a comeback, as the striker has now also tested positive following his injury a few days ago.

Predicted Sevilla line-up:

Getafe – Statistics & current form

Getafe have yet to win a single national title in their history, but came close in 2007 when they reached the cup final. However, they were narrowly beaten 1-0 by their upcoming opponents. A story that has not been forgotten by the fans of the club from the Madrid suburbs.

At the moment, however, it is all about important points in the relegation battle for the visitors. The 15th-placed team of the past season is currently one place lower and the relegation places are only two points away.

Getafe show an upturn in form

But Getafe can take heart from the past few weeks: they haven’t lost a game in six rounds and, as described, they recently beat none other than league leaders Real Madrid.

Like their opponents, the Azulones have a strong defence at the moment. Five of the last six league games ended with a clean sheet for coach Michel’s selection!

Attack still has room for improvement

However, the offense still has a lot of room for improvement: No team in the Spanish top flight has scored fewer goals than Getafe to date. The weakness in finishing is also particularly evident in the away games. Only three of the 13 goals in the season were scored away from home!

The harmless offensive is therefore also the main reason why Getafe is the only club in La Liga apart from Levante that is still waiting for its first three goals away from home (0-4-5).

Predicted line-up of Getafe:
Soria – Mitrovic – Cunenca – Olivera – Cabaco – Suarez – Maksimovic – Arambarri – Alena – Ünal – Ramirez

Sevilla – Getafe Direct comparison / H2H balance

In the first leg, Sevilla scored a 1-0 away win at Getafe. Thanks to the win, the home side now have a run of five straight victories in this fixture. On top of that, all victories have been achieved without conceding a goal.

In view of this and the aforementioned strong defence of the hosts and rather harmless offence of the visitors, tips on a home win in the match between Sevilla and Getafe, including a clean sheet of the home side, are also interesting.

Sevilla – Getafe Tip

The Rojiblancos have yet to lose a match at home this season and have long since established themselves as a commanding second-placed title contender. The visitors, however, have also stabilised recently and are unbeaten for six matchdays. The forecast for the clash between Sevilla and Getafe is for a maximum of two goals by the final whistle.

The home side boast the best defence in the league and Getafe have equally proved to be a defensive bulwark of late. Their recent win over Real Madrid was no less than their fifth clean sheet in the past six rounds of matches.

A further factor in favour of few goals is the likely absence of En-Nesyri again for the hosts. Without the Moroccan, Sevilla’s attack is much less dangerous and the suburban Madrilenians are the weakest team in La Liga. All conditions that point to a low-scoring event in Andalusia.
