Will RCD’s black streak continue in the north?
Real Sociedad’s Basques have been on a roll in La Liga so far, conceding just one defeat after eight rounds of fixtures, and that positive record is expected to have changed little from the home side’s point of view after the upcoming match against Mallorca.
Thanks to their performances so far, the White and Blues occupy third place in the table, with the two clubs from Madrid in front of them only ahead by virtue of their better goal difference. The visitors from the Balearic Islands are therefore warned, although they recently ended their four-game winless run with a triumph over Levante.
For the match at the Anoeta Stadium between Real Sociedad and Mallorca, the tip is for Mikel Oyarzabal to score.
Real Sociedad – Statistics & current form
The “Txuri-Urdin” took fifth place last season, their best finish in eight years. That this was not a snapshot can be observed in the current edition of La Liga. Although coach Imanol Alguacil’s team started with a defeat against FC Barcelona, they have not suffered another defeat since then.
Admittedly, the tasks have been quite easy so far, but five wins and two draws after the opening defeat against FCB are a very respectable result. Especially against the background that the two-time champions, last 39 years ago, are competing in the Europa League at the same time.
They have not yet lost in this competition either: instead, they have managed two draws against Monaco and PSV from Eindhoven. The double burden has therefore not had a negative effect, at least not so far.
Oyarzabal is currently unstoppable
A guarantor for success is Mikel Oyarzabal. The 24-year-old has scored more than half of “Erreala’s” eleven goals this season and is second only to Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema in the scoring charts. Oyarzabal also impressed in the recent Nations League Final Four.
He set up both goals in Spain’s 2-1 win over Italy and scored the Spanish national team’s only goal in their subsequent loss to France in the final.
Defence can convince in parallel
The defence of the three-time cup winners is equally impressive. The home side are the only team in La Liga not to have conceded a goal at home. Instead, they have already collected three clean sheets.
In view of this and the visitors’ inefficient attack, the odds on a home win to nil for Real Sociedad against Mallorca are also interesting. The additional value is supported by the statistics: the Basques have won the last three meetings with the islanders, and always without conceding a goal!
Predicted line-up of Real Sociedad:
Remiro – Gorosabel – Elustondo – Munoz – Le Normand – Guevara – Merino – Oyarzabal – Silva – Portu – Isak

Mallorca – Statistics & current form
The newcomer so far has a completely balanced record of three wins and three defeats as well as two draws. Mallorca will be satisfied with this interim balance. In addition, the victory against Levante on the last matchday ended a series of four games without a win.
Newcomer Fer Nino has also made a good start. The Spaniard came from league rivals Villarreal and leads the club’s scoring charts together with his compatriot Daniel Rodriguez. On the other hand, the junior international has also only scored twice, making it clear that the attack of coach Luis Garcia’s eleven has room for improvement.
Only six teams in the top flight of Spanish football have scored less than the “Piratas” and the lack of goals is even more pronounced away from home: Only two goals have been managed in three away games.
Will the home side prevail with a two-goal difference?
Since the defence of the 2003 Cup winners is also shaky – they have already conceded a dozen goals and scored six in their last away game against Real Madrid alone – odds on Real Sociedad to win by at least two goals at home against Mallorca are also a good idea.
Predicted line-up of Mallorca:
Reina – Olivan – Sedlar – Valjent – Maffeo – Baba Mohammed – Ruiz de Galarreta – Mboula – Kubo – Rodriguez – Nino

Real Sociedad – Mallorca Direct Comparison / H2H Balance
The Basques won their last direct encounter 3-0 on home soil last January. It was the third win in a row and, as mentioned, all victories were recorded with zero points.
Furthermore, the away record of the recent past does not give much hope for RCD from the visitors’ point of view: No less than the last eight matches in the Basque country ended with a defeat. It’s no wonder that the odds for the upcoming showdown between Real Sociedad and Mallorca are already swinging back towards a home win.
Real Sociedad – Mallorca Tip
The home side from the Basque Country have so far confirmed their great season from last year and are currently battling with Real and Atletico Madrid for the top spot in the table. For the visitors, the buns are naturally smaller as they are promoted again and even the most die-hard fans of RCD know that with a squad limited in terms of play, no more than the goal of staying in the league can be achieved this season.
For the clash between Real Sociedad and Mallorca, however, the forecast now includes another goal by the hosts’ top striker Mikel Oyarzabal. The 24-year-old is currently on a scoring spree and, with six goals already, is well on his way to a fifth successive double-digit goal haul for Sociedad by the end of the season.
The Spanish international is also in particularly high demand at the moment, with new signing Alexander Sörloth having to miss out through injury and his strike partner Alexander Isak out of form in league action: The Swede has yet to score a goal and was also injured recently.
There should also be plenty of chances for Oyarzabal to score against the Mallorcans, as no team in La Liga has conceded more goals per away game. Unibet offers betting odds of 2.08 for the match between Real Sociedad and Mallorca
