La Liga’s top match: Will Sevilla put an exclamation mark on the Bernabeu?

It’s the big top match of matchday 15 in Spain’s La Liga: league leaders Real Madrid welcome third-placed Sevilla FC to the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu on Sunday evening, kick-off in Spain’s capital is at 9 p.m.

The clash between the two championship contenders is expected to be a close one, with both having only lost once this season. With a win, Real Madrid would defend their lead in the standings or even extend it if second-placed Real Sociedad, who visit Espanyol, slip up.

Sevilla themselves could even become the new La Liga leaders with a win at the Bernabeu, provided Real Sociedad do not win their match.

Sunday evening, all eyes will be on the Bernabeu. In the Real Madrid vs. Sevilla match, however, the odds show the royals as favourites in advance. But can Sevilla perhaps underpin their championship ambitions with a coup at the Bernabeu? Three points at Real Madrid would definitely be a sign to the competition in La Liga. If you think the Andalusians can do it, you’ll find exciting betting odds on Real Madrid vs. Sevilla.

Real Madrid – Statistics & current form

It should be clear to Sevilla FC that a win at the Bernabeu will be anything but easy. Because the royals are currently brimming with self-confidence. Real Madrid won their away games at Sheriff Tiraspol and Granada CF 3:0 and 4:1 this English week, both of which were easy wins and gave them confidence for the big game against Sevilla.

Real have won five games in a row, with their last loss coming a month ago in a 0-0 draw with Osasuna. That was their second loss of points at the Bernabeu, having also drawn 0-0 with Villarreal earlier in the season.

Real Madrid occasionally wobble at the Santiago Bernabeu

The two sobering draws at the time show that Real Madrid are quite vulnerable at home, after all, they also conceded a completely surprising 1:2 defeat against Sheriff Tiraspol in the Champions League at home.

Sevilla would probably sign a 0:0 at the Bernabeu in advance – the Andalusians can certainly be expected to achieve this result. After all, Sevilla have the second-best defence in La Liga with nine goals conceded (only Bilbao conceded fewer with eight), and they have only conceded three goals away from home – a record!

However, the defence around Diego Carlos and Co. will have their work cut out for them, because Real Madrid are the most goal-threatening team in La Liga with 32 goals. Karim Benzema alone has already scored ten goals this season, making him number one in the goalscoring charts – closely followed by teammate Vinicius Junior, who has scored eight goals so far. Can these two prolific attackers break down Sevilla’s strong defence?

Predicted Real Madrid line-up:
Courtois – Carvajal, Militao, Alaba, Mendy – Casemiro, Kroos, Modric – Rodrygo, Benzema, Vinicius Jr.

Sevilla – Statistics & current form

As already mentioned, the Sevillanos’ defence is often bombproof in foreign stadiums, as only three goals conceded illustrate. However, the attack often has its problems in away games.

The Andalusians have only scored six goals in seven away games. No wonder Sevilla have only won three of their seven away games. They have drawn three times, including two very disappointing draws in Elche (1-1) and Mallorca (1-1), in which Sevilla were once again very unimaginative in attack.

But so far, the rule of thumb has been that when Sevilla win on their opponents’ pitch, they always win by zero: 1-0 at Getafe, 1-0 at Celta Vigo and 2-0 in the city derby at Betis were the three away victories. So the defence was the guarantor of success here, as it so often is. Sevilla have already played to nil seven times this season.

Since Sevilla are very good at the back, but at the same time always have problems scoring goals at the front, it is worth looking at the betting on Real Madrid against Sevilla that both clubs will not score. The Both to Score – No brings odds of over 1.90.

Predicted Sevilla line-up:
Bono – Montiel, Kounde, Carlos, Acuña – Fernando, Rakitic, Jordan – Ocampos, Mir, Gomez

Real Madrid – Sevilla Tip

The last time Sevilla visited Real Madrid, they drew 2-2 in May – although Real were still playing at the Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano at the time due to renovations at the Bernabeu.

Sevilla’s last win at the Bernabeu was several years ago, in the 2008/09 season, when they won 4-3 at Real Madrid. Since then, Real Madrid have won 14 in a row.

So you could say: It’s time again to take something tangible home. The Sevillanos will certainly operate with great defensive focus and bring their strength against the ball to bear in order to make life so difficult for Real and especially for the strong striker duo Benzema – Vinicius Jr.

A draw in the top match would ultimately not be a major blow for either side, which is why we are also predicting this match outcome. We are therefore predicting a draw at interesting odds of 4.20 on Real Madrid vs. Sevilla.
