Will the red bulls continue their high level of form?

While RB Leipzig won all three of their competitive matches in the 2022 calendar year, climbed to seventh place in the Bundesliga and reached the quarter-finals of the DFB Pokal, VfL Wolfsburg remain deep in crisis. With only two points out of a possible 24 from their last eight league games, the pre-season fourth-placed side have now slipped to 14th and are just three points clear of the relegation places.

The Wolves come to the Red Bull Arena with their backs to the wall, where they have not won in six away games (two draws, four defeats). In the run-up to the match between RB Leipzig and Wolfsburg, the odds are clearly in favour of the Saxons.

After all, the Wolves have lost all three of their last three Bundesliga away games, scoring a total of 0:8 goals, so there is little to suggest that the Lower Saxons will turn things around. Instead, the bet on a home win for the red bulls at RB Leipzig against Wolfsburg can theoretically even be boosted with a small handicap (-1) or played as a half-time final score bet (1/1).

RB Leipzig – Statistics & current form

An initially very complicated season seems to be increasingly taking a turn for the better for RB Leipzig. The red bulls came back from the winter break with maximum success and won all three competitive matches of the new year with a total of 8:1 goals.

In the league, the Saxons climbed to seventh place and are even three points away from a Champions League spot again, before nothing went wrong in the DFB Cup during the week. After an early goal, RBL easily defeated second-division side Hansa Rostock 2-0 and booked their ticket to the quarter-finals.

Building up confidence for the coming tasks

In addition, Domenico Tedesco’s team is also involved in the Europa League, where Real Sociedad is a very demanding but not impossible draw for the intermediate round. It is therefore important for the Saxons to build up sufficient self-confidence for these tasks.

Tedesco’s possession football is bearing fruit

Following the home game against the Wolves, against whom none of the last six home games have been lost (four wins, two draws), there is finally the guest game at FC Bayern. In order for RB Leipzig’s tip 1 against Wolfsburg to work out and for the Saxons to record their fourth win in the fourth competitive match of 2022, they will once again have to bring the ball security that has been so conspicuous of late onto the pitch.

Since Domenico Tedesco took over as coach of the red bulls five matchdays ago, no team has played more passes per game than Leipzig (642). In addition, they had an average possession of 64%, which was only topped by BVB (65%).

Wolfsburg – Statistics & current form

A sense of crisis is growing at VfL Wolfsburg. After an initially promising start to the season with four wins from the first four league games – including the 1-0 home win over today’s opponents RB Leipzig on matchday 3 – the Wolves eventually slumped.

Of the 15 league games that followed, the Lower Saxons eventually won just two more games in total and lost a staggering ten times in that period (three draws).

None of the last eight league games won

In recent weeks alone, the Green-Whites have gone winless in eight consecutive league games (two draws, six defeats), picking up just two points from a possible 24 and slipping to 14th in the table.

The most recent result was a 0-0 draw against Hertha BSC, the first point after six defeats in a row. However, the team’s offensive performance was once again particularly poor. The last three matches in a row were lost away from home, without the Wolves scoring a single goal.

No away win in Leipzig for six competitive games

Of all places, Kohfeldt’s side must now travel to the in-form Saxons, who have not won away from home for six games (two draws, four defeats). With Lukas Nmecha and Xaver Schlager injured and Renato Steffen suspended, the VfL will have a mammoth task ahead of them.

RB Leipzig – Wolfsburg Direct comparison / H2H balance

Head to head: 7 – 5 – 4

This is the 17th time that the two teams have met, making the VfL the most frequently played opponent of the red bulls. Most recently, however, the Saxons remained winless in five consecutive league games against Wolfsburg (three draws, one defeat).

RB Leipzig – Wolfsburg tip

When it comes to RB Leipzig against Wolfsburg, the prediction clearly goes in the direction of the home side, who not only go into this game in very good form after winning three of their three competitive games in 2022 overall, but are also the third-best home team in the Bundesliga anyway, with seven wins from their ten home games so far. This contrasts with a VfL who are pointless and goalless away from home for three league games and are deep in a crisis of form.

Accordingly, there is no alternative to betting that the winning streak of the possession-oriented red bulls will continue against Wolves who are completely out of their depth.

We consequently recommend tip 1, for which betting odds of 1.53 are available for RB Leipzig against Wolfsburg.
