Who will continue their recent run?

At the break, RB Leipzig were already 4-0 up at Brugge in their brilliant Champions League performance last week. The red bulls thus climbed to third place in the top flight and could at least spend the winter in the Europa League, in which the Werkself recorded early group victory on Thursday evening and thus a place in the round of 16.

Both teams are eager to return to the top flight next season. Now it is a question of defeating a direct competitor in the battle for the top four. In the run-up to the match between RB Leipzig and Leverkusen, the odds are swinging in the direction of the Saxons.

It is interesting to note that both teams have been firing like hell lately. During the week, both clubs took an early lead in the European competitions, while last weekend the Werkself scored in the first quarter of an hour for the ninth time in the 2021/22 season in their 1-0 win over Bochum.

Accordingly, we see a lot of value in betting on an early goal (before 25:00) for RB Leipzig against Leverkusen.

RB Leipzig – Statistics & current form

RB Leipzig have been a member of the Bundesliga since the summer of 2016, in which the red bulls have already celebrated two runner-up finishes in the 2016/17 and 2020/21 seasons. The upstart has finished every single season in the top six and has thus also become a permanent guest in UEFA competitions.

However, after the departure of coach Julian Nagelsmann and several key players, the Saxons are currently going through a difficult phase. The yield of 18 points from the first twelve league games corresponds to Leipzig’s worst ever start to the Bundesliga season.

Only one defeat in last eight competitive matches

However, at least the most recent record reads quite solid. It is true that RBL lost the away match at TSG Hoffenheim last Saturday. However, this defeat was the only match lost in the last eight competitive matches (five wins, two draws).

The ease with which the Red Bulls won 5-0 away at Club Brugge on Wednesday night proves that the form curve is now pointing upwards again after teething problems. A result which, after a lack of results in the top flight, has at least made survival in the Europa League much more likely.

Pathbreaking duels in the battle for Europe

Now, however, it is a matter of scoring points against direct rivals in league play in order to move back into the top third of the table. The next three matches with Leverkusen, Union Berlin and Borussia Mönchengladbach will be decisive in this respect.

Despite the absence of key players such as Dani Olmo, Péter Gulácsi, Yussuf Poulsen and Marcel Halstenberg, the red bulls are favourites going into the match.

Leverkusen – Statistics & current form

Bayer Leverkusen suffered their first setback of the current season after the international break in October, when they lost 5-1 at home to Bayern Munich. It was the first of five consecutive games in which the Werkself remained winless (two draws, three defeats).

Just in time for November, however, Leverkusen have rallied and, despite the inglorious DFB Pokal exit against second-division side Karlsruher SC in front of their home crowd (1:2), are back on track everywhere.

Top four in the Bundesliga and early Europa League group winners

In the league, they are currently in fourth place with 21 points out of a possible 36, which would mean that they have achieved their goal of qualifying for the Champions League.

Meanwhile, the Werkself also sold itself very dearly in the Europa League. On Thursday evening, Bayer celebrated a 3:2 home victory over Celtic Glasgow. With 13 out of a possible 15 points and 14:4 goals, the group victory is already certain before the last matchday. Gerardo Seoane’s side are now through to the round of 16 and will avoid the intermediate round.

Winless in six meetings with RB Leipzig

It is all the more crucial for the Werkself, where ex-Leipzig player Patrik Schick is currently the top scorer with eight league goals, not to collapse again at the Red Bull Arena, but to successfully defend their Champions League starting place.

At the very least, however, the odds on an away win for RB Leipzig against Leverkusen are not exactly too favourable. After all, Bayer 04 have not won against the red bulls for six consecutive matches (three draws, three defeats).

Predicted line-up of Leverkusen:
Hradecky – Hincapie – Tapsoba – Tah – Frimpong – Diaby – Demirbay – Andrich – Bellarabi – Adli – Wirtz

RB Leipzig – Leverkusen Direct comparison / H2H-balance

Head to head: 5 – 4 – 1

The two teams have faced each other ten times so far and the Werkself have only managed to beat the red bulls once, who have always scored in all ten encounters. Leverkusen have not kept a clean sheet against any other team for longer than they have against the Saxons.

RB Leipzig – Leverkusen tip

When it comes to RB Leipzig vs Leverkusen, predicting the outcome of the match is extremely difficult as there are both pro and con arguments in the form check on both teams. On the one hand, RBL is strong at home and has won the last four league home games in a row, while the direct comparison is also in favour of the Saxons. On the other hand, Leverkusen are unbeaten in six league away games and have already picked up a total of three points more than the Leipzigers.

It is striking that both teams have a penchant for scoring early. Not only did both take an early lead in Europe during the week. The Werkself alone scored nine goals in the first quarter of the game.

A lot of value is offered by betting on an early goal (before 25:00), for which betting odds of 1.83 are available for RB Leipzig against Leverkusen.
