Will the Wolves prevail in Paris?

Eight years ago, the two clubs met once before in the Champions League. In the CL duel between PSG and Wolfsburg Damen, the French representative prevailed with the better goal difference and entered the final of the Women’s Champions League 2014/15.

How far this year’s adventure will go depends mainly on the upcoming match against VfL Wolfsburg. The first leg will be played in front of a home crowd, after all. For PSG vs. Wolfsburg Women, betting odds of up to 2.35 are currently being offered for a bet on the home side.

The Parisians have won each of their last six competitive matches since the draw at Fleury 91. Nevertheless, it is risky to place a prediction on the hosts from the French capital in the upcoming match between PSG vs Wolfsburg Damen. The Wolfsburg women are definitely an opponent not to be underestimated.

Head coach Tommy Stroot’s team has already warmed up with a resounding victory against Turbine Potsdam. If the VfL carries the momentum into Wednesday’s match, they can expect a good result in Paris. The role as the supposed underdog at the best bookmakers should not be overestimated.

PSG – Statistics & current form

PSG are close behind the record champions from Lyon in the league. Internationally, however, the Paris Saint-Germain footballers are aiming for their first major coup. So far, PSG Féminine has never won the Champions League. “Les Rouge-et-bleu”, however, have already reached the final of the Women’s Champions League twice.

The last time was in 2017, when the PSG women were defeated by Lyon in the final of the French showdown. Since then, PSG have lagged behind the high expectations on the international stage, as they have in the men’s game.

This season, head coach Gérard Prêcheur’s team has disappointed on the international stage and at times even had to fear for a place in the quarter-finals. In a group with Chelsea, Real Madrid and Vllaznia, PSG’s women posted a record of 3-1-2 and qualified for the knockout phase of the 2022/23 UCL with a lead of just two points over Real.

Déjà vu against the Wolves?

Last time PSG women faced VfL Wolfsburg at the Parc des Princes, it was a bitter 2-1 defeat for the red and blue. Nevertheless, because PSG won the first leg 2-0, they booked their ticket to the final in 2015. Since then, their record against German teams has not improved.

In a total of nine competitive duels against clubs from the German women’s Bundesliga, PSG’s record is just 4-1-4, and it’s quite possible that their record will deteriorate further after Wednesday’s match. After the mixed performance in the recent cup match against Thonon Evian, we think it is quite realistic for PSG to lose the home advantage against the Wolves.

Predicted line-up of PSG:
Bouhaddi; Li, Georgieva, De Almeida, Lawrence; Jean-Francois, Hamraoui, Geyoro; Martens, Baltimore, Diani

Wolfsburg Ladies – Statistics & current form

The last time VfL Wolfsburg’s women’s footballers won the top flight was in 2014. Since then, the second-best German women’s football club – in terms of success on the national and international stage – has also reached the Women’s Champions League final three other times. In all three finals, however, the “Wölfinen” failed miserably.

The last time was in 2020, when VfL Wolfsburg lost 3-1 to Olympique Lyon in the final. The result in the following season in the women’s CL was therefore all the more surprising. Wolfsburg already failed in the quarter-finals of the top division in 2021.

In the last season, however, VfL Wolfsburg was eliminated by the eventual tournament winners FC Barcelona. The chance for revenge may come in the final of the current season, provided FCB qualify for the final. To do so, VfL must not only master the quarter-final against PSG, but also the semi-final against the winner of the Bayern vs. Arsenal match.

Wolves warm up their offensive engine

In Paris, VfL Wolfsburg face a feasible hurdle this week. After the thumping win against Turbine Potsdam, in which the women scored as many as five goals, it cannot be ruled out that VfL will also secure a victory at PSG. Bets on this – also due to VfL’s performance in the top flight so far – are definitely worth placing.

In the group stage, Wolfsburg remained unbeaten in all six matches against teams like Slavia Prague, St. Pölten and AS Roma. The women’s team had a record of 4-2-0 and thus also won their group in the CL. Over six group matches, VfL Wolfsburg scored 19 goals – an average of more than three goals per match.

It is quite possible that this will be continued in Paris. With seven goals and two assists, Ewa Pajor was not only Wolfsburg’s top scorer, but also leads the scoring charts in the current competition.

Predicted Wolfsburg Ladies line-up:
Frohms; Wilms, Hendrich, Janssen, Rauch; Lattwein, Roord; Huth, Popp, Jonsdottir; Pajor

PSG – Wolfsburg Women Direct Comparison / H2H Balance

This is the third time that PSG and Wolfsburg Women have met on the international stage in a competitive match. In the two previous encounters, the respective away team prevailed. PSG won 2-0 in Wolfsburg, while the Wolfsburg women won 2-1 in Paris.

PSG – Wolfsburg Women Tip

If you look back at the season of both teams on the international stage, it is quite surprising that PSG are slight favourites against VfL Wolfsburg in the quarter-finals. The Wolves have played a strong season on the international stage so far and have not yet lost a match in the Champions League.

On top of that, the VfL have already warmed up with a resounding 5-0 win in the Bundesliga last weekend. If head coach Stroot’s team carries the momentum into Wednesday’s match, VfL can be expected to spring a surprise in Paris.

In contrast to the bookmakers, we see the Wolves as favourites in the quarter-final duel against PSG and are leaning towards a win for the German visitors. For PSG vs Wolfsburg Women, betting odds of 2.80 are currently offered for tip 2. We are using four units
