Will the Albiceleste get the next win?

After winning the World Cup title last winter in Qatar, Argentina’s national soccer team continues to be very successful. The Albiceleste have not only won all seven of their international matches in 2023, but have even won them without conceding a goal. With nine points and 5:0 goals in the CONMEBOL 2026 World Cup Qualifiers, the Gauchos are now in first place. Accordingly, there is no alternative to betting on an away win for the reigning world champions in Peru against Argentina

The Peruvians are, after all, the complete opposite of the Argentines. Not only have the Incas gone winless in all three of their qualifying matches so far, but they have also yet to score a single goal, which means they are currently second to last in the South American World Cup qualifiers held under the league system. It is therefore interesting to predict the next win for the Albiceleste in Peru against Argentina.

Although the still ailing superstar Messi only played 37 minutes in the 1-0 win over Paraguay. However, the Argentine selection also has an extremely high level of quality in the second and third rows. The Albiceleste can also manage. Against Paraguay, a goal by defender Nicolás Otamendi in the third minute of the game was enough to mark the eventual 1-0 final score.

The Peruvians, who have only conceded three goals in three qualifying matches but have yet to score a goal of their own, will have a correspondingly difficult time. A lot of value is offered by the bet that Argentina will win the fourth match of the World Cup qualifiers without conceding a goal.

Peru – Statistics & current form

The Peruvian national soccer team has participated in five World Cups so far. Most recently, the Incas qualified for the finals, which took place in Russia in 2018. However, after two losses to France and Denmark and a win over Australia, Peru finished third in the preliminary round.

However, they were beaten by the Australians on penalties in the intercontinental playoffs ahead of the 2022 finals in Qatar. The Blanquirroja’s greatest success at a World Cup finals is still the quarterfinal they reached in Mexico in 1970.

Peru still winless after three qualifiers

After finishing fifth in the final qualifying stage, Peru are now naturally hoping to finish among the top six, all of whom will be eligible to travel to the USA, Mexico and Canada in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. However, coach Juan Reynoso’s selection is not yet on track.

After three qualifying games, the Incas are second to last. Only against Paraguay did the Blanquirroja manage to earn a point (0-0) despite playing a complete half in a shorthanded draw. The subsequent games against Brazil (0:1) and Chile (0:2) were both lost.

The Peruvian squad is overaged

This means that Reynoso’s eleven have just one win in their last seven internationals (two draws, four defeats), in which they have failed to score a goal of their own on five occasions. Accordingly, the odds are clearly against a point win for the Incas in Peru against Argentina, who have also remained scoreless in three games in the 2026 CONMEBOL World Cup qualifiers.

The problem here is certainly that offensively there is still no getting past captain Paolo Guerrero, who at 39 years old is already well past his prime, but has few rivals. Finally, there is simply too little young talent coming through the ranks, which is why Peru played with an average age of no less than 32.4 years in the recent 2-0 defeat to Chile. That’s a good description of the Blanquirroja’s current problems in making the much-needed change.

Projected lineup of Peru:

Gallese – Trauco – Abram – Zambrano – Corzo – Yotún – Aquino – Polo – González – Advincula – Guerrero

Argentina – Statistics & current form

The Argentine national soccer team is one of the figureheads of South American soccer and has so far only missed out on qualification at the 1970 World Cup in Mexico. The Albiceleste withdrew from the three tournaments between 1938 and 1954 and did not even participate in 1954.

The 1978 World Cup on home soil, meanwhile, was the catalyst when the Gauchos became world champions for the first time. Since then, Argentina has made it to the final four times. In 1986 and most recently in 2022, the Gauchos won two more tournaments.

Current leaders of the CONMEBOL World Cup Qualifiers 2026

As reigning world champions, Argentina naturally want to play a leading role in the upcoming World Cup in the USA, Mexico and Canada. To do so, the team of successful coach Lionel Scaloni, who led Argentina to the Copa America in 2021, must first overcome the low but still serious hurdle of World Cup qualification.

So far, nothing has gone wrong. The Albiceleste have won all three of their qualifying matches to date, are the only nation to have picked up the full nine points, and are 5-0 up and saluting from first place in the current table.

Argentina 2023 always victorious

When it comes to Peru vs. Argentina, it’s a good bet that the reigning world champions will win the next match, as they last conceded in the 2022 World Cup final against France. Since then, there have been seven international matches, all of which the Argentine national soccer team has won with a clean sheet.

The Albiceleste not only have an impeccable defense, but also quality across the board. Players such as Lautaro Martínez are currently in excellent form at their clubs, which means that the ailing superstar Messi is not even needed. Most recently, a standard situation was enough, which defender Nicolás Otamendi converted for the golden 1-0 victory over Paraguay.

Predicted Argentina lineup:
E. Martínez – Tagliafico – Otamendi – Romero – Molina – Mac Allister – Fernández – de Paul – Álvarez – González – L. Martínez

Peru – Argentina Direct comparison / H2H-balance

Head to head: 5 – 14 – 34

A total of 53 international matches have taken place between the two nations so far and with 34 wins, Argentina leads the head-to-head comparison very clearly. Currently, Peru is winless against the Albiceleste for 15 games (four draws, eleven defeats). The last time the Incas beat the reigning world champions 2-1 was in the 1997 Copa America quarterfinals.

Peru – Argentina Tip

Very clearly the betting odds of all bookmakers beat Peru against Argentina in the direction of the Albiceleste. No wonder, because while the reigning world champions have won all seven international matches in the calendar year 2023 without conceding a goal, the Incas have just one win among their last seven international matches (two draws, four defeats), in which La Blanquirroja went five times without scoring a goal of their own – including in all three qualifiers.

In case of doubt, a simple standard situation should once again be enough for the very well-staffed Argentines to set the course for another victory before the defense takes care of the rest against tame Peruvians. It is therefore very interesting to predict the next win for the Albiceleste in Peru against Argentina
