Is the Magpies’ black streak coming to an end?

With Newcastle against Burnley a cellar duel in the Premier League takes place. The home side are in last place and the visitors in third last, but the Clarets have also played one game less.

For the Magpies it is the second duel against a direct competitor in the relegation battle within a few days, because last Tuesday they already played against the second last from Norwich. The match ended in a draw, which means that the bottom team is still the only team in the British top flight that is waiting for its first win of the season

For the game at St. James’ Park between Newcastle and Burnley, the tip is aiming for more than three goals by the final whistle

Newcastle – Statistics & current form

The Magpies have an average of four goals in home games. This represents the highest number in the Premier League. The reason for the high value is the shaky defence: No team in the Premier League hands out as many visiting gifts as NUFC with already 17 goals conceded in seven home matches.

Experienced defender Ciaran Clark will have to miss the upcoming match. The 32-year-old picked up a red card in the recent comparison with Norwich. Against the backdrop of the home side’s very weak defence, the odds on both sides scoring in Newcastle’s match against Burnley are also interesting.

On the offensive side, the hopes lie especially on Callum Wilson. In the recent 1-1 draw against the Canaries, he contributed the only goal for the 1969 Fairs Cup winners, although it came from the penalty spot. On the other hand, it was his fifth goal in just ten league appearances.

Next goal by Wilson?

With that haul, Wilson has scored just under a third of United’s goals. With that in mind, betting on his next goal in Newcastle’s clash with Burnley is also worth considering.

His 17-goal tally since joining the Magpies at the start of last season also shows just how important he is to the home side’s attack. He has scored more than twice as often as any other player in the squad.

Coach Eddie Howe cannot rely on a home bonus: Rather, “Toon” equally has the weakest home record in the Beletage of British football: Four draws and three defeats clearly show the home weakness of the 2017 second division champions.

Predicted Newcastle line-up:
Dubravka – Schär – Krafth – Lascelles – Ritchie – Shelvey – Willock – Fraser – Joelinton – Wilson – Saint-Maximin

Burnley – Statistics & current form

The Wine Reds are counting on Frenchman Gnaly Cornet first and foremost in their attack this season. The Ivory Coast footballer only arrived at Burnley during the season from Lyon of the “Gones”, but has immediately worked as the hoped-for reinforcement in the lame offensive: After eight league games, Cornet is already on five goals.

In the flashback to the past five rounds of matches, he scored four goals and in between Cornet also struck in his national team shirt in the World Cup qualifier against Mozambique.

His strike partner Chris Wood has also stepped up his game of late and if he can continue to do so after a slow start to the season, scoring two goals in the last four rounds, the attacker could yet end a fifth straight season with the Football League’s founding member with a double-digit goal haul!

Clarets are a welcome guest

In contrast, the red wine team’s away record gives them little hope: they have not yet won any of their seven matches away from home (0-4-3). The upcoming opponents alone are more harmless away from home than the Lancashire side in a league-wide comparison.

Coach Sean Dyche, however, can draw on a full complement of players for the upcoming match. With James Tarkowski in defence and Ashley Westwood in midfield, two experienced players return to the squad of last year’s 17th placed team after overcoming card suspensions.

Predicted Burnley line-up:
Pope – Lowton – Tarkowski – Mee – Gudmundsson – Westwood – Taylor – Brownhill – McNeil- Cornet – Wood

Newcastle – Burnley Direct Comparison / H2H Record

For the next edition of Newcastle vs Burnley, the odds are leaning slightly in favour of the hosts. The most recent direct duel took place last August. Burnley won the EFL Cup match away from home on penalties after a goalless 90 minutes.

This ended a run of three winless comparisons for the Turf Moor footballers in this pairing (0-1-2) and secured their first win at the North East footballers
in a flashback to their past six attempts (1-3-2).

Newcastle – Burnley Tip

The Black and Whites failed to get their first win of the season even against second-bottom Norwich a few days ago. Now they are desperate to get that long-awaited three-pointer against the Clarets, who themselves are only third last. However, the visitors have improved recently and are unbeaten for five rounds of matches.

Admittedly, on the other hand, only one win was achieved against the promoted Brentford side during this review. For the clash between Newcastle and Burnley, the forecast is for more than 3.5 goals. This is supported by the fact that the visiting two-time champions, last seen 61 years ago, are in an upwardly mobile form, especially in attack.

Although they only managed a goalless draw at Wolverhampton, the Wanderers also have the third-best defence in the Premier League alongside Liverpool. Instead, United have the weakest home defence in the league waiting for the visitors, which is why Burnley’s resurgent attack should now be more likely to score again.

Furthermore, the home games of last season’s twelfth-placed team are the highest-scoring ones this season: only three of the seven games did not end with at least four goals and the hosts will be very attacking as they cannot be satisfied with a home draw against an immediate rival in the relegation battle, as they did against Norwich last time.

Bwin offers odds of 3.20 on the clash between Newcastle and Burnley
