Will West Ham stop the Devils’ run?

Cup time on the island. In England, the round of 16 of the FA Cup takes place this week. The field has already thinned out considerably and some of the best teams in the Premier League have had to pull out early.

Not so Manchester United, who welcome the Hammers from London in the fight for a place in the quarter-finals. Manchester United vs West Ham predictions see the hosts ahead ahead of the game.

The Red Devils have a tough programme ahead of them. The home side are still dancing on three weddings. In addition to the FA Cup, the Red and Whites are also in the Europa League. Last weekend, they also won the Carabao Cup and the 2013 title holders are still doing well in the championship.

The visitors from London are successful in the cup competitions, but have their difficulties in the English Premier League. Only last weekend’s success helped them to climb away from the relegation places. So now the tough away game at United is on the agenda. On Thursday at 20:45 we will see which team will advance to the next round at Old Trafford.

Manchester United – Statistics & current form

The last season was rather disappointing for the Red Devils with a sixth place finish. Under new coach Erik ten Hag, however, Manchester United are currently blossoming back to their former glory and are in the process of qualifying for the lucrative Champions League via the league. This week, however, the first priority is to secure their ticket to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.

In the Premier League, the fans of the red and white celebrated 15 wins and four draws in the 24 games played. In total, 49 points were collected, which currently means third place in the standings. They are eight points behind leaders Arsenal and six points behind city rivals Manchester City with one more game to play. United’s closest rivals are currently Spurs, four points behind.

They started the season on the wrong foot with two defeats, but since then the home side have been doing well in all competitions. They have not lost their last ten competitive matches in a row. Last Sunday, they won their first title of the current season. The hosts won the Carabao Cup with a 2-0 victory over Newcastle. In the Premier League, ten of the possible twelve points were taken from the last four games.

The Red Devis knock Barca out of the Europa League

Highlight, however, was certainly the appearance in the intermediate round of the Europa League. Here it came to the clash with the Spanish heavyweight from Barcelona. After the 2:2 first leg result, the Red and Whites secured their place in the next round with a 2:1 victory. In the FA Cup, the hosts have so far celebrated two 3-1 victories at home to Old Trafford. Will the third strike follow this week? In the clash between Manchester United and West Ham, odds of 1.66 are paid for bets on the ten Hag team.

With 41 goals scored, the Red Devils have the fourth best attack in the league. Marcus Rashford is currently in excellent form with 14 goals. With 28 goals conceded, there are currently four teams with a better record in this statistic.

West Ham – Statistics & current form

Last season the Hammers played for the participation in an international competition. This was not necessarily expected in advance and seventh place at the end meant qualification for participation in the Europa Conference League. Certainly a success for the Bordeaux Reds from London.

However, things have not gone so well for a long time this season. After 24 games, the Irons have only 23 points. Six victories have already been offset by 13 defeats. Currently, this means 16th place in the table, just two points ahead of Everton FC, who occupy the first relegation spot. It should be a tough remaining season for head coach David Moyes and his boys to stay in the relegation zone.

West Ham ended run of no wins at weekend

After three winless games at Newcastle (1-1), against Chelsea (1-1) and at Spurs (0-2), there was finally a success to celebrate last weekend. Nottingham Forest were shot out of the London Stadium with 4:0. With these three points, the team made the leap from the relegation places to the save shore.

It was important for Moyes’ team that the attacking forces finally got going. Until then, the visitors were among the teams with the fewest goals in the Premier League. Now they have at least 23 successes to their name. The Hammers’ top scorer is Danny Ings, who scored twice last weekend, with eight goals.

The defence, on the other hand, has done a good job so far and keeper Fabianski has only conceded 29 goals. This is still the seventh best value in the entire league. However, the number one will probably be absent on Wednesday, as he had to leave the pitch against Forest with a swollen eye after a collision with corner Felipe.

The Hammers are through to the last 16 of the Conference League

Internationally, the Hammers competed in the Conference League. With six wins against Anderlecht, Silkeborg and Bucharest, the Bordeaux reds won Group B with ease and are in the last 16 of the competition. In the FA Cup, the Londoners have had to play twice away from home. At Brentford, the visitors won 1-0 and at Derby County they won 2-0.

Predicted West Ham line-up:
Areola – Johnson, Ogbonna, Aguerd, Kehrer – Soucek, Rice, Coufal – Bowen, Benrahma, Ings

Last matches played by West Ham:

Premier League
25/02/2023 – West Ham 4 – 0 Nottingham Forest

19/02/2023 – Tottenham 2 – 0 West Ham

11/02/2023 – West Ham 1 – 1 Chelsea FC

05/02/2023 – Newcastle 1 – 1 West Ham

FA Cup
31/01/2023 – Derby 0 – 2 West Ham

Manchester United – West Ham Direct comparison / H2H record

The two teams have faced each other seven times in the FA Cup so far. Four times the hosts were successful and once the Hammers won. In total we find 131 comparisons between the teams. In the overall balance, the Red Devils are ahead with 65 wins against 36 defeats. The predictions for the upcoming clash between Manchester United and West Ham also favour the home side. The odds are 1.66 at the top.

In the first leg of the current season, the Red and Whites won 1-0 at the venerable Old Trafford. In general, the last duels were rather low-scoring. Five of the last six games ended with less than 1.5 goals. In the Premier League, Manchester have won the last five encounters with the men from London’s East End. West Ham have only won once from their last 20 games at Manchester.

Manchester United – West Ham Tip

On paper, the division of roles seems clear. The hosts are looking back on a proud series of ten matches without defeat and secured their first title of the season with the Carabao Cup last weekend. The strong attack has been particularly convincing so far and has already scored 41 times.

The visitors are still struggling in the league and are not able to get out of the bottom of the table. Especially in attack, they have lacked penetrating power so far. In the cup competitions, on the other hand, the Hammers have been able to shine. In the Conference League, the Bordeaux Reds are in the last 16 and in the FA Cup, too, they have a chance of reaching the quarter-finals.

We agree with the bookmakers’ assessments. The Red Devils are on a good run right now and are in great form. It will be very difficult for the Hammers to break this run and we see the hosts as having a clear advantage in their own stadium. Therefore, our recommendation for Manchester United vs West Ham is a home win combined with under 4.5 goals at odds of 2.00 at the top.

The last duels between these two teams were poor in goals and we do not expect a goal spectacle for the upcoming encounter either. That’s why we think betting on a game with less than 2.5 goals is a good alternative in the Manchester United vs West Ham match, at betting odds of 2.10.
