Do the Red Devils also show a reaction to the 0:7 in the league?

Three matches of the 27th matchday will be played in the English Premier League on Sunday afternoon at 3 pm. The clash of opposites will take place at Old Trafford Stadium. The home side is fighting for Champions League qualification, while the visitors are fighting for survival. Accordingly, the starting position is clear and betting odds of 1.35 are offered for a home win between Manchester United and Southampton.

The Red Devils have somewhat forgotten the humiliation against arch-rivals Liverpool in the UEFA Europa League and celebrated a clear victory against Betis Sevilla, the quarter-finals are already within reach. Now they have to get back on track in the league.

According to the table position, the game is clear, but the ten Hag eleven is warned, because recently there has been a clear upward trend with the guests. Nevertheless, with Manchester United against Southampton, the prediction on the guests is associated with great risk.

Southampton may be much more successful away than in front of their home crowd, but Manchester United are gradually becoming a fortress again at Old Trafford Stadium, having won nine of their ten games so far.

Manchester United – Statistics & current form

There have rarely been moments of happiness for Liverpool fans at Anfield Road this season, but last Sunday they humiliated their hated, long-time rivals at their own stadium. Manchester United made the trip to their arch-rivals with confidence, as the ten Hag side were unbeaten in eleven league games and still fancied a mini-chance of the championship.

A 7-0 defeat in a prestige duel was unprecedented and United experienced one of their darkest hours in recent years. Before the embarrassment, Manchester United had conceded just eight goals in ten league games, this time seven in 90 minutes.

After this disgrace, Erik ten Hag’s team at least gave the right answer on Thursday night. In a 4-1 home win against Spanish representatives Betis Sevilla, Manchester United once again underlined their renewed home strength.

The door to the quarter-finals was opened wide for the Red Devils. Not only are they very successful at home internationally, but also in the Premier League. The ten Hag eleven scored an average of 2.42 points at the Old Trafford Stadium.

Rashford can be relied upon

Now it’s time to move up in the league and secure third place in the table. Once again, the hopes rest on the English team striker Marcus Rashford. Since the winter World Cup, the attacking player has been in excellent form. Especially at Old Trafford, the 25-year-old is expected to score, after all he scored in the last seven league home games en suite. Only Wayne Rooney (eight) and Cristiano Ronaldo (ten) can top that.

Southampton – Statistics & current form

The Saints have now played in the English Premier League for eleven years without interruption. Will they complete the dozen? A question that cannot yet be answered in mid-March. As things stand, the club would have to take the bitter step into the second division. With 21 points from 25 league games, however, the club is only one point and ten goals away from safety. Recent results in particular have given Saints supporters a bit of encouragement, with an upturn in form not to be dismissed.

The assist should fix it

All good things come in threes at Southampton – with the third different head coach now taking his place on the bench. Long-time Austrian coach Hasenhüttl had to leave in November, and his successor Nathan Jones only managed 14 games (an average of 1.07 points per game). Big names were traded, but in the end a no-name was trusted. The 39-year-old Ruben Selles is an internal solution, was previously co-coach of the two previous coaches and convinced in the first games as boss.

He was interim coach for one game after the Hasenhüttl exit and also took over this post after the Jones exit. Both games were won and as a result Selles was given a head coach contract until the end of the season. Southampton have won two of their last three PL games under Selles, previously taking 17 league games to record two victories.

In one category, the relegation candidates are even top of the league. No other PL team has taken more than half of its points away from home this season. Southampton have taken twelve of their 21 points away from home. There have been four wins, but this is offset by nine defeats.

Manchester United – Southampton Direct comparison / H2H record

In January 2015 and 2016, Manchester United lost two in a row at home to Southampton Football Club, but since then there has been no defeat in front of the home crowd against the Saints. The last six games have alternated between wins and draws. According to the law of the series, a home win should be the right choice on Sunday afternoon between Manchester United and Southampton.

Last season, the teams parted with a 1-1 draw. Erik ten Hag’s team won the first leg of the current season 1-0 (Bruno Fernandes scored the winner). It was the 14th meeting en suite in which the Red Devils have scored against Southampton.

Manchester United – Southampton Tip

Very one-sided between Manchester United and Southampton are the odds on offer in the 1X2 market. This is especially supported by the direct comparison, but also by looking at the current table in the motherland of football. Manchester United experienced their personal Waterloo last Sunday, but redeemed themselves on the international stage and have regained their home strength under ten Hag.

Southampton have shown a slight upward trend, but the 19th-placed team will have to collect the necessary points against other teams in order to stay in the league. The starting position is clear and it would not be surprising if the action on the green pitch is also clear.

The bet on a regular home win is not particularly lucrative yet, but the HT/FT 1/1 bet on Manchester United against Southampton is very interesting. Southampton have been behind at half-time in nine away games (goal difference 4:14), while the Red Devils have been in the lead seven times at the change of ends.
