Does Ralf Rangnick make a successful debut?

Manchester United welcome Crystal Palace on matchday 15 in the Premier League. The visitors last conceded a defeat at Leeds as part of the current English week. However, the defeat was very unfortunate, as the decisive goal conceded by the Bielsa eleven only came in injury time.

The home side also have the disadvantage of two days less recovery time, as their last league game was against the Gunners last Thursday night. The focus will of course also be on Ralf Rangnick, who will now be on the sidelines for the first time as the Red Devils’ new coach.

For the upcoming match at Old Trafford between Manchester United and Crystal Palace, betting on a draw being ruled out at half-time seems like a good idea.

Manchester United – Statistics & current form

One of United’s shortcomings is their fragile defence: Leicester alone concede more goals among the top ten teams in the Premier League. A fairly reliable attack and a shaky defence are the combination of reasons why the home side’s games are comparatively high-scoring. An average of 3.4 goals have been scored in MUFC’s matches so far.

Only in the games of Liverpool are there more. With that in mind, betting on Manchester United and Crystal Palace to score more than two goals by the final whistle at Old Trafford is also an interesting proposition.

Red Devils working on a defensive negative streak

The hosts’ defensive frailty can also be seen in the fact that the Red Devils have always conceded at least one goal in their past 15 home games in all competitions. This is second longest such streak in the club’s history after a sequence of 21 home games with one goal conceded each in the late 1950s!

The additional value tip is underpinned by the capital’s equally low-scoring away games. In two of their seven away matches alone, the selected limit of 2.5 goals was not exceeded!

In the dress rehearsal for the match against the Eagles, however, the country’s 20-time title holders recorded a 3-2 win over Arsenal last Thursday. After five home games without a win, new coach Ralf Rangnick’s team finally celebrated another success in front of their home crowd.

Martial gives himself another gift?

In the offensive, the hopes now lie on Anthony Martial, among others. The striker celebrates his 26th birthday on matchday and in 2018 he has already scored once on his special day. Should he succeed again, he would be the second player in Premier League history with two birthday goals after Teddy Sheringham (1994 & 1995)!

Crystal Palace – Statistics & current form

The Eagles’ visiting games have been very lively so far, with no less than 3.3 goals on average to watch – only the Reds and Leicester top this haul on their footballing tours of duty. As a rule, Crystal Palace can rely on an attack that is capable of scoring goals. This impresses above all with its flexibility.

With the British Conor Gallagher, Belgian Christian Benteke and Wilfried Zaha from the Ivory Coast, they have a trio of attacking players who are capable of scoring at least four times each. On top of that, the attack was further strengthened at the end of August with the signing of Frenchman Odsonne Edouard from Celtic Glasgow.

The 23-year-old has been very successful in Scotland, scoring 55 goals in the last three seasons, and Edouard seems to feel at home in London as well. After eleven league games he has scored three goals, although he has often only come off the bench.

Goals on both sides?

With the visitors’ efficient attacking line-up in mind, the betting odds on both sides scoring in Manchester United’s clash against Crystal Palace are equally endowed with value in the eyes of the betting public. Moreover, six of the visitors’ past nine league games have seen such a fixture.

The men from Selhurst Park, on the other hand, have rarely been convincing away from home. Only six of the season’s 16 points have been taken in away games. Coach Patrick Vieira’s side’s only win on foreign soil so far was all the more impressive for that, as it came in a 2-0 win at champions Manchester City!

Predicted line-up of Crystal Palace:
Guaita – Tomkins – Guehi – Mitchell – Ward – Eze – Kouyate – Olise – Zaha – Gallagher – Benteke

Manchester United – Crystal Palace Direct comparison / H2H record

The last time the record champions and the Eagles met was last March in London. The match ended without any goals. Furthermore, last season’s 14th-placed side have a run of two away victories at Old Trafford, with a previous draw to boot. As a result, the Red Devils have not won at home against the Capitals for more than four years!

For the next edition of Manchester United vs Crystal Palace, the odds are nevertheless leaning towards a success for the hosts.

Manchester United – Crystal Palace Tip

Although the runners-up’s home games have a record that could be improved, they are usually entertaining from the start. Only one of those seven games ended in a goalless draw by the half-time whistle. All the others did not see a draw at the interval whistle.

For the clash between Manchester United and Crystal Palace, the prediction therefore includes a lead for the home side or visitors at the end of the first half. The prediction is supported by an identical record for the Eagles in their visiting matches.

Only in the recent away game at Leeds did the two-time FA Cup finalists go into the break with a draw. This is partly due to the fact that the Glaziers often show defensive weaknesses in the first 45 minutes already. The visitors concede 50 per cent of their goals in the first period – the sixth-highest figure in the Premier League.

The home side have the same record on top! Bwin offers odds of 1.57 on the clash between Manchester United and Crystal Palace for the prediction.
