Won’t Newcastle let the ‘Reds’ shoot them down?

Liverpool host Newcastle at the start of English Week in the Premier League. The home side took the frustration out of the game last Saturday with a 9-0 thrashing of Bournemouth. Thanks to the win, they were able to claim their first three points of the season.

With the Magpies, however, an opponent is now coming to Anfield Road who will not be dismissed so easily. The visitors are still unbeaten after four rounds of matches and travel with the fourth best defence in the league.

For the match between Liverpool and Newcastle, the forecast therefore includes a maximum of two goals by the hosts.

Liverpool – Statistics & current form

The Reds picked up a near double-digit home win recently, as described. In the encounter, the promoted Bournemouth side had to endure Liverpool’s pent-up frustration over their previously poor start to the season.

Roberto Firmino, in particular, turned up the heat against the Cherries. The Brazilian recorded three assists and scored twice. After missing out on a goal in the first three matchdays, the 30-year-old has now gained a lot of new self-confidence.

Firmino strikes again?

With this in mind, the betting odds on his next goal in Liverpool’s clash with Newcastle are also of interest. This is also supported by the fact that Darwin Nunez is still unable to play up front due to his card suspension.

On top of that, Diogo Jota, another player in attack, has to miss out due to injury. In general, the personnel situation for coach Jürgen Klopp’s team remains tense: Whether Matip and Konate – also in defence, some key players are currently absent.

In view of the absences in the attack and the, as mentioned, strong attack of the visitors, tips on a maximum of three goals by the final whistle are also worth considering in the duel between Liverpool and Newcastle.

Newcastle – Statistics & current form

The “Magpies” last drew 1-1 at Wolverhampton and thus recorded the third draw in a row. Coach Eddie Howe’s side were the better team in the match, but failed to take advantage of too many goal-scoring opportunities.

Nevertheless, Allan Saint-Maximin is getting better and better on the offensive. The Frenchman scored the equaliser in the last match against Wolves and had already set up two of his team-mates’ goals in the respectable 3-3 draw against the champions from Manchester on the penultimate matchday.

The players from St. James Park also have, as mentioned at the beginning, a very stable defence. The champions alone have shown them the limits with three goals so far.

Defensive has been strengthened decisively

The fact that the back line is so good can be explained by the new additions to this part of the team. Before the season, Newcastle brought in Sven Botman, a very powerful defender, and Nick Pope was signed from relegated Burnley for the place between the posts.

The goalkeeper also plays for the Three Lions and is undoubtedly an update in this position at United compared to last season.

Wilson must continue to miss out

Last season’s eleventh-placed side, however, cannot rely on the previously in-form Callum Wilson in attack for the time being.

The goalscorer, who has already scored twice this season, has to miss out due to injury and the recent draw, which was in no small part due to the many unused chances in attack, can be explained to some extent by his absence.

Predicted Newcastle line-up:
Pope – Botman – Schär – Trippier – Burn – Guimaraes – Joelinton – Willock – Wilson – Almiron – Saint-Maximin

Last matches played by Newcastle:

28/08/2022 – Wolverhampton 1 – 1 Newcastle

Liverpool – Newcastle Direct comparison / H2H record

Liverpool beat United in both duels last season. Thanks to the two wins, the home side have remained unbeaten in eleven comparisons in this pairing (7-4-0). Furthermore, Newcastle’s last away win at Anfield Road was no less than 28 years ago!

Liverpool – Newcastle Tip

For the clash between Liverpool and Newcastle, the prediction includes a maximum of two goals by the hosts. Although the Reds recently dismantled Bournemouth 9-0, this was also due to the defensive weakness of the opponent.

Moreover, the home side were so merciless in that game because they had to wait for their first win of the season. Now the frustration about this should have subsided thanks to the resounding victory.

On top, Newcastle, unlike the Cherries, arrive with a very stable defence, which was rebuilt in the summer and can now be described as very powerful. Furthermore, the prediction is supported by the fact that the match is the start of an English week.

The home favourites will not go full throttle offensively for 90 minutes this time, as the next league game is already coming up in a few days.
