Will the Reds also win the FA Cup?

Exactly ten years ago Chelsea and Liverpool faced each other in the FA Cup final. Back then, the Blues prevailed 2:1. In February, both teams fought it out in the final of the EFL League Cup 2022. The Reds eventually prevailed 11-10 in a memorable penalty shootout after 120 scoreless minutes.

This is the fourth time the two teams have faced each other during the 2021/22 season. So far, there has been no winner in any of the three regular-season encounters. However, given the Reds’ form, the bookmakers see LFC as the clear favourites to win the title. In the run-up to the final between Chelsea and Liverpool, the odds are swinging in the direction of Klopp’s side.

However, Chelsea should not be written off prematurely. The Blues have had to deal with some adversity, especially in the second half of the season. On Wednesday evening, however, the Pensioners were also successful in their dress rehearsal with a 3-0 away win at Leeds United.

We consider it very useful to take the possibility of extra time into account when betting on Chelsea against Liverpool. Because we see slight advantages for the Reds, the double chance X2 makes a lot of sense, which can be combined coherently with the additional tip on under 3.5 goals.

Chelsea – Statistics & current form

Chelsea Football Club celebrated winning the Champions League title last summer. Because the transfer market was subsequently successful, even the spectacular return of Romelu Lukaku, the Blues were considered in the Premier League Champions 2022 forecast quite as a co-favourite.

An assessment that the Pensioners were able to live up to for several months. Up to and including matchday 14, Chelsea led the table before the first mini-crisis set in during the autumn.

Despite all the disruptive fire, a conciliatory end to the season is still possible

Unfortunately, the Londoners then plunged into a tangible crisis in the second half of the season. The infamous Lukaku interview, the Abramovich sanctions and the recent inability to act on player contracts caused an extreme amount of unrest, which was also reflected in the performances.

Nevertheless, the Blues could still add a positive touch to the season with an overall victory in the FA Cup. After all, Chelsea also reached the EFL Cup final, made it to the Champions League quarter-finals and only need two points out of a possible six in the Premier League to be sure of qualifying for the top flight again.

Only two wins in last six competitive games

Factually, there are only two wins among the Blues’ last six competitive matches (two draws, two defeats), which underlines the fact that one or two scars have remained from the gruelling second half of the season.

That the Pensioners will succeed in defeating one of the strongest teams in the country in the final is rather doubtful according to the bookmakers. The bookmaker Unibet, tested by Wettbasis, offers odds of 3.65 for tip 1 on Chelsea against Liverpool.

Liverpool – Statistics & current form

Liverpool FC could achieve something big this summer and secure the quadruple. The Reds already won the EFL Cup in February against today’s opponents from London. Now they could add their first overall FA Cup win in 16 years. And then there is the Champions League final on 28 May against Real Madrid.

Only in the Premier League, with only two games left to play, three points behind and a goal difference seven worse than leaders Manchester City, are the title chances no longer quite so distinct.

Undefeated for 15 consecutive competitive games

The motivation of the Merseyside players, who had to play every competitive game possible in 2021/22 without exception, should not be diminished by the small chance of winning the Premier League title. Even a triple, consisting of three cup victories, would be a minor sensation.

The Scousers can be expected to be in the right frame of mind in this FA Cup final, especially as LFC have a lot of momentum. The Reds have not lost in 15 consecutive league games (twelve wins, three draws).

Only lost two of 47 domestic competitive games in 2021/22

The fact that Jürgen Klopp can draw on his full squad in this decisive phase of the season and does not have to do without injured or suspended key players is certainly an advantage. In this way, the Reds can fully adjust to the slightly struggling Blues.

Given that LFC have lost just two of their 47 competitive matches in the 2021/22 season in the league and both cup competitions, the Scousers are clear favourites going into the FA Cup final. Under a correspondingly good star is the tip on the overall victory of the Klopp eleven at Chelsea against Liverpool.

Chelsea – Liverpool Direct Comparison / H2H Record

Head to head: 65 – 43 – 83

There have been a total of 191 meetings between the two teams so far and the Reds lead the head-to-head comparison with 83 wins. LFC won the EFL Cup against Chelsea in February, but only after a penalty shoot-out. In the regular 90 minutes of play, Liverpool have thus remained winless against the Blues for the last four times in a row.

Chelsea – Liverpool Tip

With Chelsea against Liverpool, the prediction nevertheless clearly goes in the direction of the Reds, who clearly have more momentum at national level and also have the correspondingly empty hospital and high quality across the board to bring the necessary freshness at this crucial stage. Contrast that with the Blues, who have won just two of their last six league games and don’t exactly go into the final with the greatest possible momentum.

Nevertheless, the Pensioners are confident of once again entangling LFC in extra time via a low-scoring game with a draw after 90 minutes. Therefore, the greatest value is offered by the combined bet on the double chance X2 at under 3.5 goals.
