After the weak European Championship this summer, the German national football team will continue to qualify for the World Cup. Even before the European Championship, things didn’t go well for the German team in the qualifying group F. The last international match in Duisburg against North Macedonia went to the underdog with 2:1.
For Liechtenstein, the qualifying games are already a kind of own final round. Things didn’t get any better in the two friendly matches. Within four days at the beginning of June, there were two packs in Switzerland (0:7) and the Faroe Islands (1:5).
Even in the Nations League, Liechtenstein’s performance in League D is mediocre. After all, San Marino was left behind last year and finished second behind Gibraltar in the group of three. Things went better in the away games than at home with a 2-0 win in San Marino and a 1-1 win in Gibraltar. At home, no goals were scored against Gibraltar (0-1) and San Marino (0-0). The promotion to League C is therefore also a good thing.
The Liechtenstein national team has no stars and has a squad value of just 1.18 million euros. The most valuable player is Noah Frick and can be found in the attacking midfield. The 19-year-old plays in the 3rd Swiss League at SC Brühl and this clearly shows the level of football in Liechtenstein.

The winning goal for the guests then fell again in the final minutes – Elmas (85th).
The Löw-Elf came into the World Championship quali well and won at the start clear with 3:0 at home against Iceland and also gained a few days later in Romania three points (1:0). The 1:2 home defeat against North Macedonia then brought the noblemen back to the ground. The last international match was played by the DFB team at the end of June at the European Championship against England. At Wembley Stadium, they lost 0-2 to the Three Lions in the European Championship final and were knocked out. The group phase was already mixed with only one victory (4-2 against Portugal). France (0:1) and Hungary (2:2) entered the knockout round with only four points.
The final round of the World Championships in Russia was even worse. As defending champions, the Germans entered the race in 2018 and had to return home after the preliminary round – Mexico (0:1), Sweden (2:1), South Korea (0:2).
New national coach Hansi Flick has appointed three newcomers and at the same time U-21 European champion – Karim Adeyemi from Red Bull Salzburg, Freiburg’s Nico Schlotterbeck and Hoffenheim’s newcomer David Raum. Thomas Müller (Bayern Munich) and Marco Reus (BVB) will again be present. Meanwhile, Toni Kroos of Real Madrid has resigned from the national team.
Ilkay Gündogan (2) as well as Serge Gnabry, Leon Goretzka and Kai Havertz scored the five goals in the World Cup qualification.
