Will the Wolves remain Bayern’s closest rivals?

With 13 out of a possible 15 points from the first five league games, VfL Wolfsburg currently occupy second place in the table. The Lower Saxons led the Bundesliga for three matchdays alreadybut after four wins to start the season, they recently dropped their first two points against Frankfurt.

TSG Hoffenheim, on the other hand, have only won one of their five league games and have been winless in four in a row. Thus, the Wolves come to Baden-Württemberg slightly favoured. In the run-up to the match between Hoffenheim and Wolfsburg, the odds are in favour of the visitors.

The Wolfsburg side’s concrete defence is striking, having conceded only two goals in five league games (best in the league). This contrasts with TSG, who recently failed to score in two consecutive league games against Mainz and Bielefeld. There is therefore a lot of value in betting that Hoffenheim will score a maximum of two goals against Wolfsburg.

Germany Hoffenheim – Statistics & current form

At the end of a complicated season overshadowed by constant injury woes, TSG Hoffenheim finished eleventh in the Bundesliga’s final table this summer. Although the team from Kraichgau missed out on qualifying for another international competition, coach Sebastian Hoeneß was still allowed to continue his work.

Initially, the signs were also pointing to an upward trend. On the first matchday of the new season, the Sinsheim side celebrated a commanding 4-0 away win at FC Augsburg, thus remaining unbeaten for the eighth consecutive league match this season.

Four league games in a row without a win

However, the team from Baden-Württemberg only picked up two points out of a possible twelve from their subsequent four games.

This means that TSG are now only in tenth place in the table and are in danger of slipping back into mediocrity.

The offensive in particular has faltered. In the last two competitive games against Mainz and Bielefeld, the Sinsheim attack failed to score. Symptomatic of this is goal-scorer Andrej Kramaric, who did not miss a minute of play in the 2021/22 season in the Bundesliga, scoring 18 times, but is still waiting for his first league goal in the new season

Only one win from last six clashes with Wolfsburg

Accordingly, the Blue and Whites are only in the underdog role in their own stadium.

In addition to the strength of form of the visitors from Lower Saxony, the recent record against the VfL also plays a role here. Although TSG won their last home match against the Wolves 2-1, the Baden-Württemberg side remained winless against Wolfsburg in their five previous competitive matches (two draws, three defeats).

Predicted line-up of Hoffenheim:
Baumann – Raum – Richards – Vogt – Kaderabek – Samassekou – Grillitsch – Baumgartner – Kramaric – Skov – Bebou

Germany Wolfsburg – Statistics & current form

VfL Wolfsburg have been a fixture in the Bundesliga for 25 years now and even won the German championship once before in 2009. Last season, the Green-Whites finished fourth under Oliver Glasner, who moved to Frankfurt, and once again qualified for the Champions League.

Currently, Mark van Bommel is doing an excellent job of continuing the good work of his predecessor. Under the Dutchman, VfL was eliminated from the DFB Pokal because of a mistake. In fact, however, the Wolves have not yet lost a competitive match under their new manager.

The best defence in the Bundesliga

In league play, the Lower Saxons picked up 13 of a possible 15 points and even led the table for three matchdays until the recent 1-1 draw against Frankfurt. The Green-Whites are still level on points with the Bavarians, but have a much worse goal difference.

At least this is not due to the very strong defence. The VfL, who come to Hoffenheim with the best defence in the Bundesliga, have only conceded two goals so far. This also speaks in favour of betting on less than 2.5 goals for Hoffenheim against Wolfsburg.

Wolfsburg have already picked up four points from behind

The Lower Saxons still have a groundbreaking game coming up. After winning four league games to start the season, the Green-Whites remained winless in their Champions League opener in Lille last English week, as they did in their most recent home game against the SGE.

Both games ended in a draw with only one goal conceded. Nevertheless, VfL must now prove that the momentum of the strong start is still active. After all, the Lower Saxons have digested setbacks brilliantly so far, already picking up four points after falling behind – a Bundesliga best after five matchdays.

Predicted Wolfsburg line-up:
Casteels – Roussillon – Brooks – Lacroix – Mbabu – Arnold – Guilavogui – Lukébakio – Philipp – Baku – Weghorst

Head to head: 7 – 7 – 13

There have been a total of 27 meetings between the two teams so far and the Wolves lead the direct comparison with 13 victories. In the last meeting to date, TSG won 2-1 at home on 6 March 2021 and celebrated their first victory against the Lower Saxons after five winless meetings.

United Kingdom Hoffenheim – Wolfsburg United Kingdom Tip

For Hoffenheim against Wolfsburg, the prediction has to take into account the strong start of the visitors. The VfL is still unbeaten in competitive matches and picked up 13 out of a possible 15 points in the Bundesliga. The Green-Whites’ defence in particular is almost impossible to overcome, as evidenced by the only two goals conceded in league play

Since TSG goalkeeper Andrej Kramaric in particular is currently plagued by a lack of goals (18 shots, no goals), there is little to suggest that there will be a goal festival in Kraichgau. We therefore see the greatest value in the bet on a maximum of two goals
