Do the Foals remain a number too tame away from home?

Germany’s TSG Hoffenheim have picked up just two points from a possible 21 in their last seven Bundesliga games – more than any other Bundesliga team. The situation is correspondingly tense in the Kraichgau, where the air in the table has become thinner and thinner after the original ambitions for Europe. Nevertheless, according to the bookmakers’ assessment of Hoffenheim against Gladbach, betting on a home win for the Sinsheim side is the more sustainable choice.

The TSG’s role as favourites, which has seen them wait six Bundesliga home games for another treble (two draws, four defeats), can be attributed to the Foals’ glaring weakness away from home. Borussia is one of three Bundesliga teams still without a win away from home in the 2022/23 season (four draws, four defeats) and even lost 1-0 at Augsburg last time out. Consequently, the prediction for Hoffenheim against Gladbach is leaning towards the Baden-Württembergers.

In any case, it should be noted that in this clash between two teams whose “head to head” record in the Bundesliga is completely balanced with nine wins and eleven draws each, two teams with poor form clash. Both sides have lost a staggering five of their last seven league games.

Accordingly, it is difficult to predict the outcome of the crisis summit at the PreZero Arena. In view of Borussia’s poor away record, it makes the most sense in our eyes to bet on Gladbach scoring a maximum of one goal in this away match.

Hoffenheim – Statistics & current form

Hoffenheim initially started the 2022/23 season very strongly under new coach André Breitenreiter, who surprisingly led FC Zürich to the championship in Switzerland last season. TSG won four of their first six league games and were still in the thick of the fight for the European starting places in the autumn.

Then, however, disaster took its course with a 2-0 home defeat to Bayern. From then on, the team from Kraichgau did not win a single league match and has now reached seven games in a row without a win (two draws, five defeats).

Winless for six Bundesliga home games in a row

After the 3-1 defeat at Union Berlin after the long winter break, the Sinsheim side did score again during the week with a 2-2 draw against VfB Stuttgart. However, there was not much reason for euphoria after the lucky last-minute equaliser – Kramaric saved TSG’s goal in the fourth minute of injury time.

After all, the players from Kraichgau have now waited six Bundesliga home games for another win (two draws, four defeats) and are currently among the teams with the least form in the Bundesliga.

Only three points clear of the relegation places

Recently, TSG has therefore also been slipped through in the table. They are only three points clear of the relegation places, which is why it is quite surprising that the betting odds on Hoffenheim against Gladbach are swinging in the direction of the Blue and Whites.

As if there weren’t enough problems already, the personnel worries haven’t exactly eased. The recently ill Dennis Geiger could return to the starting line-up against the Foals. However, with Kevin Akpoguma suspended, the next absence will have to be compensated for.

Projected line-up of Hoffenheim:
Baumann – Angelino – Nsoki – Kabak – Brooks – Kaderabek – Geiger – Rudy – Baumgartner – Kramaric – Bebou

Gladbach – Statistics & current form

As five-time German champions, Borussia Mönchengladbach have a natural ambition to play a leading role in the Bundesliga, at least in the battle for the top six. After the team from the Lower Rhine only finished a disappointing tenth in the final table last summer, Daniel Farke was installed as the new coach.

However, the situation of the Foals has not really improved. In fact, Borussia is ninth in the table, one place better than at the end of the previous season. However, with a nine-point gap to sixth place, they are by no means among the contenders for an international spot.

Not a single away win in the entire Bundesliga first round

The Gladbachers’ recent exploits in the Bundesliga have also been too bad.

Five of the last seven league games have been lost by the eleven from the Lower Rhine (two wins), who also got off to a poor start after the World Cup break. Both games in 2023 ended with another defeat.

The away misery of the Foals also worsened recently, as they were the rebuilding opponents at in-form FC Augsburg and remained winless in their eighth Bundesliga away game of the 2022/23 season (four draws, four defeats).

The third worst away attack in the Bundesliga

With just eight goals scored away from home, the Foals also boast the Bundesliga’s third-weakest away attack, which further bolsters our prediction for Hoffenheim against Gladbach that Borussia will be able to score a maximum of one away goal away from in-form Sinsheim.

Moreover, for the first time since 2014, the team from the Lower Rhine could start the calendar year with three defeats in a row, which would further exacerbate the recent crisis.

Predicted Gladbach line-up:
Omlin – Bensebaini – Elvedi – Itakura – Scally – Weigl – Koné – Stindl – Plea – Hofmann – Thuram

Hoffenheim – Gladbach Direct comparison / H2H balance

Head to head: 11 – 12 – 9

There have been a total of 32 meetings between the two teams so far and TSG lead the direct comparison with eleven wins. However, the Foals won the first leg 3-1 at home on 6 August 2022.

Hoffenheim – Gladbach Tip

The odds on Hoffenheim against Gladbach are swinging in the direction of the home side, which is remarkable in that TSG have been without another win for six Bundesliga home games in a row (two draws, four defeats). The Sinsheim side’s drought, however, contrasts with the away woes of the Fohlenelf, who recently lost 1-0 in Augsburg, leaving them without a single win away from home in the entire Bundesliga season (four draws, four defeats).

Also offensively not much went for the eleven from the Lower Rhine away. Borussia has the third weakest away attack in the Bundesliga, which is why we favour Hoffenheim against Gladbach with a bet that the Foals score a maximum of one goal in the Kraichgau.
