Will the Foals extend their unbeaten streak?

Both Borussia Mönchengladbach and 1. FSV Mainz 05 can be quite satisfied with their start to the season. The Foals are still unbeaten after four matchdays (two wins, two draws) and even managed to hold FC Bayern to a point. The Nullfünfer, on the other hand, have picked up seven points out of a possible twelve and thus occupy seventh place in the current table.

The Mainz side have managed to overcome their early-season deficits on away grounds and have won both of their away matches so far in the 2022/23 season. Nevertheless, in the run-up to the encounter between Gladbach and Mainz, the odds are in favour of the team from the Lower Rhine.

The balance is definitely in favour of Borussia, who have lost only one of their last twelve Bundesliga home games against the Rheinhessen side. However, the Foals have been winless in three games in a row against the Nullfünfer, who are by no means without a chance at Borussia-Park. Sunday’s game could be correspondingly close.

Although we see the home side as the favourites, we recommend playing Gladbach vs Mainz tip 1 with hedging only. Draw No Bet” is a good option for this. On the other hand, if you favour the direct bet, you should at least consider indirect hedging.

Gladbach – Statistics & current form

Borussia Mönchengladbach struggled for a long time in the 2021/22 season and ended up only tenth in the final table. Adi Hütter had to leave again and in the summer a small upheaval took place, in which key players such as Matthias Ginter and Breel Embolo left.

Daniel Farke, an interesting coach, took over and was joined by a number of equally interesting newcomers. At the beginning of the week, Nathan Ngoumou arrived from Toulouse. And most recently, the Foals struck again on “Deadline Day”, bringing Julian Weigl back to the Bundesliga from Benfica Lisbon.

Eight points out of a possible twelve to start

However, Gladbach are not only in a good position on paper. The results so far also underline the competitiveness of the team from the Lower Rhine. Borussia won both home games with a total of 4:1 goals and also picked up two draws away from home.

The 1-1 draw with Bayern was particularly impressive. Not only did Farke’s squad finally show their coolness in front of the opponent’s goal, but Yann Sommer also excelled himself and kept the point for his team with an incredible 19 saves.

Unbeaten for eight league games all season

Now the Foals are looking to prolong their home streak and win their third home game of the 2022/23 season. In total, they would extend their season-long unbeaten streak to nine games.

The oddsmakers believe the team from the Lower Rhine region has a good chance of doing so, simply because Borussia has always scored against FSV in 16 Bundesliga home games so far. The odds on Gladbach against Mainz are correspondingly good if the five-time German champions score again on matchday five.

Predicted line-up of Gladbach:
Sommer – Netz – Elvedi – Itakura – Scally – Kramer – Koné – Neuhaus – Plea – Hofmann – Thuram

Mainz – Statistics & current form

1. FSV Mainz 05 got off to a good start with seven points out of a possible nine from their first three league games. Then, however, the zero-fivers were beaten 3-0 at home by the hitherto winless Werkself from Leverkusen.

Even in double overtime, Bo Svensson’s team was unable to turn the tide against the Rhinelanders and suffered its first defeat of the young season. With seven points, the Rhinelanders are nevertheless in a respectable seventh place.

No more sign of away weakness

The positive thing is that Mainz got a grip on their recent away weakness early in the season. Last season, the Red and Whites picked up just eleven points away from home and were the second-weakest away team behind relegated Fürth.

This season, on the other hand, FSV have won two games away from home, which is the maximum they can achieve. This means that three away wins in a row are now on the record for the season. A potential fourth away win in a row would set an old club record from the autumn of 2010.

Never before with a clean sheet at Borussia-Park

However, the Rheinhessen side travel to Borussia-Park as outsiders, having won just one of their last twelve Bundesliga away games. They have conceded at least one goal in all 16 Bundesliga matches played in Mönchengladbach.

Accordingly, despite a promising start to the season, FSV are only outsiders in this away game.

Predicted line-up of Mainz:
Zentner – Aaron – Leitsch – Hack – Bell – Widmer – Kohr – Stach – Fulgini – Burkardt – Onisiwo

Gladbach – Mainz Direct comparison / H2H-Balance

Head to head: 17 – 12 – 10

The two teams have faced each other a total of 39 times so far and Borussia Mönchengladbach lead the direct comparison with 17 victories. Most recently, the Foals remained winless against Mainz three times in a row (two draws, one defeat). However, they have only lost one of their last twelve Bundesliga home games (seven wins, four draws).

Gladbach – Mainz Tip

With Gladbach against Mainz, the prediction generally goes to the Foals. However, the fact that the Rheinhessen side under Bo Svensson has not lost any of its three league games against the team from the Lower Rhine (one win, two draws) should not be ignored. In view of the fact that Mainz also won their first two away league games of the 2022/23 season, a point for the visitors cannot be categorically ruled out.

Nonetheless, Borussia have lost only one of their last twelve league home games against the Nullfünfer. Consequently, it makes sense to bet on a home win for Farke’s team and to choose “Draw No Bet” as a hedge for this.
