Is there nothing in it for the cloverleaf once again?

SpVgg Greuther Fürth are still the only one of the 18 Bundesliga teams waiting for their first three points in league play in the top flight of German football. The cloverleaf has only picked up one point out of a possible 33 so far and is already eight points behind the relegation place. Now, of all times, the Central Franconians are playing at home to Gladbach, who have remained unbeaten in five league games at home.

The odds at the bookmakers are correspondingly clear. In the run-up to the match between Gladbach and Fürth, the odds are clearly in favour of the home side. The Foals are the clear favourites going into their home match.

After all, Gladbach have not lost a single one of their ten competitive games against the Central Franconians so far (eight wins, two draws), which is why the only question is what boost to give Gladbach vs Fürth tip 1 in order to get the most out of the odds.

In view of the 29 goals already conceded by the Kleeblätter – a negative figure in the Bundesliga – a win for Borussia with a two-goal difference seems to be the obvious choice.

Gladbach – Statistics & current form

Borussia Mönchengladbach are now a fixture in the Bundesliga for the 14th consecutive year since a one-year stint in the 2. Bundesliga in the 2007/08 season. Several times during this period, the Foals have managed to qualify for an international competition.

This summer, however, the Borussians narrowly missed out on this goal, finishing eighth in the final table. Under Rose’s successor Adi Hütter, a new attempt is now to be made to secure a starting place in Europe.

Gladbach are a power at home

After just under a third of the season, however, the interim result is not really good. The team from the Lower Rhine has only won four of its eleven games and went into the international break in ninth place in the table. Only once in the last ten years have they had a worse points tally at this point in the season.

But at least the home record of the Foals is quite respectable. Of the five home games at Borussia-Park, not a single match has been lost (three wins, two draws). In addition, with only four home goals against, they have the second best home defence in the Bundesliga.

Only lost one of the last seven competitive matches

Not only did Gladbach beat Borussia Dortmund 1-0 at home in the league, but Hütter’s team also scored a memorable 5-0 win over FC Bayern in the DFB Pokal, which gave them the courage to believe that the turnaround has now been achieved.

After all, following the sensational victory over the German record champions, the Foals picked up four out of a possible six points in the league, which means they are in good form going into the home game against the current Bundesliga bottom team. The betting on a home win for Gladbach against Fürth is correspondingly good.

Predicted line-up of Gladbach:
Sommer – Netz – Bensebaini – Ginter – Scally – Zakaria – Koné – Plea – Stindl – Hofmann – Thuram

Fürth – Statistics & current form

SpVgg Greuther Fürth may already be three-time German champions. However, all three titles date back far before the founding of the Bundesliga and were won in 1914, 1926 and 1929.

As successful as the Central Franconians’ past is, the Bundesliga and the cloverleaf have not been a good match so far. The last time the Spielvereinigung played in the Bundesliga was in the 2012/13 season, when they were relegated to the bottom of the table with only four wins from 34 league matches.

Negative scores in virtually all relevant areas

Now Stefan Leitl’s squad could do even worse in their quite surprising promotion this summer. After all, after the first tight third of the season, only one measly point is on the books for the Kleeblatt, which was taken in the 1-1 draw at home against Arminia Bielefeld.

The other ten league games were all lost, with the Central Franconians shining with negative values in practically all relevant performance categories. The last time Hannover 96 lost nine league games in a row was in the 2009/10 season, while a haul of just one point from the first eleven league games is even a new negative start record.

Lost all six away games at 5:20 goals

The problem is that, on the one hand, the cloverleaf has hardly any penetrating power offensively and, with only eight goals scored, is the second-weakest offence in the league, while the defence has already conceded 29 goals – another negative figure in the Bundesliga.

In view of the fact that they have lost six games away from home and have scored 5:20 goals, the Central Franconians will travel to the home-strong Foals as the underdogs.

Predicted line-up of Fürth:
Funk – Willems – Sarpei – Griesbeck – Meyerhöfer – Christiansen – Tillman – Seguin – Nielsen – Itten – Hrgota

Last matches played by Fürth:

1st Bundesliga
11/07 2021 – Greuther Fürth 1 – 2 Eintracht Frankfurt

10/30 2021 – SC Freiburg 3 – 1 Greuther Fürth

10/23 2021 – RB Leipzig 4 – 1 Greuther Fürth

10/16 2021 – Greuther Fürth 0 – 1 Vfl Bochum

10/01 2021 – 1. FC Köln 3 – 1 Greuther Fürth

Gladbach – Fürth Direct comparison / H2H balance

Head to head: 8 – 2 – 0

Ten times both teams have faced each other in official matches and Borussia is still unbeaten against Spielvereinigung. Both draws so far go back to games in Fürth. The Foals have thus won every home match against the Mittelfranken side.

Gladbach – Fürth tip

For Gladbach against Fürth, the prediction goes to the home-strong Borussia, who are still unbeaten at home in the league and who just kicked the big FC Bayern out of their own stadium with 5:0 in the DFB Pokal. Bad conditions, then, for a struggling promoted team that has lost all six of its Bundesliga games away from home and travels to the Niederrhein as the bottom team in the standings.

In the end, the only question here is really how to extract the maximum value from Gladbach’s expected home win. In view of the visitors’ weak defence, we are betting on Borussia to win by at least two goals.
