With 17 qualifiers, the Germans are among the better offensive teams in the competition. Serge Gnabry (4 hits) is the best clipper in the DFB dress. Timo Werner cheered three times and Ilkay Gündogan and Leroy Sane entered the scoring list twice.
Manuel Neuer was absent from the first DFB training session in Hamburg on Tuesday and threatens to drop out at the Volksparkstadion on Friday. BVB defender Mats Hummels was not even nominated due to injury. Matthias Ginter (Mönchengladbach) was appointed to the national squad for him. Marc-Andre ter Stegen (FC Barcelona) is back after a long injury break. For him the last strong Kevin Trapp (Eintracht Frankfurt) had to give way.

In the last international match of the World Cup qualifying group J, the Eastern Europeans did not get past a zero number in Germany’s conqueror North Macedonia and had to accept a setback in the battle for the first three places. Coach Mirel Radoi’s national team got off to a good start last month with two 2-0 wins in Iceland and at home to Liechtenstein.
The Radoi team has been undefeated for three consecutive caps, but disappointed with the 0-0 in North Macedonia just under a month ago. Two of the six games during the group phase were lost – on the second and third matchday there were two defeats at home against Germany (0:1) and in Armenia (2:3). The opening match in their own four walls was won 3-2 against the surprise team from North Macedonia.
The Romanian national team missed the last five World Championships. Most recently, the Tricolorii participated in a World Cup in France in 1998 and even made it into the sixteen final against Croatia (0:1).
Romania scored nine goals in six group games in the World Cup qualifying round and is the best goalscorer with only two goals, Alexandru Cicaldau (Galatasaray Istanbul). Ianis Hagi, Denis Man, Cristian Manea, Alin Tosca, Florin Tanase, Valentin Mihaila and Nicolae Stanciu each played once.

Germany is clear favourites for victory against Romania. The DFB team will receive the Tricolorii on Friday with three wins in a row and a goal ratio of 12:0 in Hamburg’s Volkspark. However, the Radoi team should not be underestimated. The Eastern Europeans have not lost in the qualifying race three times in a row and still have minimal chances of winning the group.
