Duel for the chasers in Breisgau

Breisgau against Kraichgau – that sounds like mediocrity in the Bundesliga. But it is by no means that this season. A look at the table reveals that it is a chasing duel in which two teams are facing each other who are fighting for places in the Champions League, at least at this stage.

For the first time, this encounter comes when both clubs are together in the top 5 of the league. Sportclub are currently ranked fourth with 25 points. The team is showing an unexpected maturity this season and perhaps Christian Streich will gift them with his 100th Bundesliga win as coach of the Breisgauer on Saturday.

TSG Hoffenheim are also playing a very good season so far. Fifth place and 23 points are an excellent snapshot. So both teams have delivered a similar performance this season. That’s why, ahead of the match between Freiburg and Hoffenheim, the prediction of the tested betting providers goes only slightly to a home win.

Both teams are capable of playing exhilarating football and have shown themselves to be very goal-hungry at times. If Saturday’s match doesn’t fall victim to tactics, we can imagine placing a tip on more than 2.5 goals in the encounter between Freiburg and Hoffenheim.

Freiburg – Statistics & current form

While Christian Streich will be looking at a possible anniversary on Saturday, Christian Günter will definitely have something to celebrate as the Freiburg captain is about to make his 250th Bundesliga appearance. The international has always been in the starting eleven on the last 93 match days. That is the best figure in the league at the moment.

Best defence in the league

There are many reasons why the Breisgauer are so strong this season. One key, above all, is their stable defence. With only 13 goals conceded, Sportclub has the best defence in the top flight. Nevertheless, there was a series of defeats recently, which only ended last weekend. Therefore, it does not make sense to play the odds on a home win between Freiburg and Hoffenheim without hesitation.

However, if Christian Streich’s team performs as furiously as they did in the guest game in Mönchengladbach last weekend, then it should be enough for a successful afternoon. The Sportclub won 6:0 at Borussia-Park. Already at the break, goals from Maximilian Eggestein, Kevin Schade, Philipp Lienhart, Nicolas Höfler, Lucas Höler and Nico Schlotterbeck sealed the highest Bundesliga victory in Freiburg’s history.

After such a success, there is no reason to change anything in the starting line-up, especially since Christian Streich is a friend of expressing confidence in a winning team again. With Yannik Keitel missing with a torn muscle fibre and Jonathan Schmid still in rehabilitation training, Sportclub are only missing two players.

Predicted line-up of Freiburg:
Flekken – Kübler, Lienhart, N. Schlotterbeck, Günter – Eggestein, Höfler – Schade, Höler, Grifo – Demirovic – Coach: Streich

Hoffenheim – Statistics & current form

For Andrej Kramaric it could also be an extraordinary day on Saturday. His 200th competitive game for the Kraichgauer is on the agenda and because he currently stands at 99 goals, a jubilee could be in order there as well. It is becoming increasingly clear that a special game is in the offing in this chasing duel in Freiburg.

Three wins in a row

The TSG have had their problems in recent weeks, especially away from home, where they have suffered numerous defeats. However, after ending that streak at bottom side Fürth and doing well at home anyway, 1899 have now won three in a row for the first time under Sebastian Hoeneß. Perhaps that is a clue to predicting success for the visitors in the match between Freiburg and Hoffenheim.

Last weekend saw the sixth win in a row in the sixth competitive match at home. Eintracht Frankfurt were guests in Sinsheim and the visitors took an early 1-0 lead. However, Dennis Geiger, Georginio Rutter and Diadie Samassekou turned the game around after an hour to make it 3:1. Frankfurt reduced the score once more, but in the end TSG won this home match as well.

Dennis Geiger will be absent on Saturday due to muscular problems. However, Sebastian Hoeneß will have to do without numerous other players. Ermin Bicakcic, Jacob Bruun Larsen, Florian Grillitsch, Marco John and Robert Skov are not available. Sebastian Rudy or Angelo Stiller will probably move into the starting eleven.

Predicted line-up of Hoffenheim:
Baumann – Posch, Vogt, Richards – Akpogouma, Stiller, Samassekou, Raum – Kramaric – Bebou, Rutter – Coach: Hoeneß

Last matches played by Hoffenheim:

1st Bundesliga
12/04 2021 – Hoffenheim 3 – 2 Eintracht Frankfurt

11/27 2021 – Greuther Fürth 3 – 6 Hoffenheim

11/20 2021 – Hoffenheim 2 – 0 RB Leipzig

11/06 2021 – Vfl Bochum 2 – 0 Hoffenheim

10/29 2021 – Hoffenheim 2 – 0 Hertha Berlin

Freiburg – Hoffenheim Direct Comparison / H2H Balance

This is the 26th meeting between SC Freiburg and TSG Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga, second division and DFB Cup. In the direct comparison, the Breisgauer currently have a slight lead. After victories, the score is 9:6 in favour of the Sportclub. However, most of the games, namely ten, ended in a draw.

Last season, Freiburg first won 3:1 in Hoffenheim, while the return match in the Dreisamstadion ended in a 1-1 draw. Andrej Kramaric put the Kraichgauer 1-0 ahead shortly before the break. Ten minutes before the end, it was Vincenzo Grifo who scored the goal on a penalty kick to make the final score 1-1.

Freiburg – Hoffenheim Tip

It could be the banger of the matchday. Freiburg have been in a slump, but have bounced back impressively with their record-breaking win in Mönchengladbach. The Kraichgauer are also in top form and are perhaps the team of the moment after celebrating three wins in a row for the first time under Sebastian Hoeneß.

It is also the day of anniversaries. A game like this actually deserves to have a bang or two. Both teams play very offensively and have scored frequently in recent weeks. It almost sounds logical that between Freiburg and Hoffenheim, a bet on over-goals is a good choice.

When it comes to the outcome of the match, we are rather reluctant to make a prediction. A draw does not sound unlikely.
