Recovery by Eintracht?

The Frankfurt Eintracht is a surprise package this season. On the one hand hard to beat and successful in the away game in Munich, on the other hand with unmistakable tactical difficulties, especially in defence. We are curious to see what face the Hessians show on Thursday in the Europa League against Olympiakos Piraeus.

The Greeks are leading the standings in this group with six points from two games before the supposed top match. Currently, only Eintracht can keep pace with them with four points. Fenerbahce Istanbul have only one point. FC Antwerpen are at the foot of the table after two defeats.

Olympiakos is a team you actually meet permanently in the top flight. Now Pedro Martins’ team is only playing in the Europa League. In principle, you should expect the Greeks to be clear favourites at Eintracht.

But for that to happen, there would have to be a rethink among Glasner’s eleven. With last weekend’s performance, there will be a rude awakening against the Greek champions. We think a bet on an away win for the Greeks is the slightly better choice in this European Cup match between Eintracht Frankfurt and Olympiakos Piraeus.

Frankfurt – Statistics & current form

What to make of Eintracht this season is hard to say. The Hessians are not a team that has celebrated many victories, but on the other hand can only be defeated with a high effort. In the Bundesliga, Oliver Glasner’s team is clearly underperforming with eight points from eight games and 14th place.

Wonder bag Eintracht

After eight unbeaten games, Eintracht suffered only one defeat last weekend. On the other hand, Eintracht have only won two of their eleven games. That hardly sounds like you need to check the odds on a home win in the match between Frankfurt and Olympiakos Piraeus.

After a great 2-1 win at Bayern Munich, the Hessians fell back into old patterns last weekend, losing 2-1 at home to unsettled Herthan. Substitute Goncalo Paciencia’s follow-up goal a quarter of an hour from time was not enough to keep anything of note at home.

After this performance, numerous changes are expected. Daichi Kamada, Rafael Borre and Goncalo Paciencia should move into the starting eleven. Further reshuffles are not ruled out. Christopher Lenz, captain Sebastian Rode as well as Aymen Barkok will also be unavailable due to injury.

Trapp – N’Dicka, Hinteregger, Hasebe – Ilsanker, Sow – Kostic, Toure, Kamada – Borre, Paciencia – Coach: Glasner

Olympiakos Piraeus – Statistics & current form

For Olympiakos Piraeus it is almost a tragedy that they did not make it into the Champions League. The Greek champions have proven time and again over many years that they can sing in the concert of the greats. This club simply belongs in the top flight.

Olympiakos can’t be beaten

The current form could not be better. Olympiakos have been unbeaten for eleven games. Pedro Martins’ eleven have won six of their last seven games. With 14 points from six games, the defending champions are already back at the top of the Greek league. This also means that we tend to predict a win for the visitors in the match between Frankfurt and Olympiakos Piraeus.

Last weekend, however, the Greek champions struggled visibly in their visit to PAS Giannina. Aguibou Camara gave them an early 1:0 lead. However, the home side equalised in the second period before substitute Youssef El Arabi scored the 2-1 winner shortly before the end of the game.

It remains to be seen whether there will be any changes in the starting eleven on Thursday. It is conceivable that Yann M’Vila, Mathieu Valbuena, Garry Rodrigues or Youssef El Arabi will start. Playmaker Konstantinos Fortounis is still out. The former Lauter man is still in rehabilitation training after tearing his cruciate ligament

Predicted line-up of Olympiakos Piraeus:
Vaclik – Reabciuk, Cisse, Papasthatopoulos, Lala – Bouchalakis, M’Vila – Onyekuru, A. Camara, Masouras – El Arabi – Coach: Martins

Frankfurt – Olympiakos Piraeus Direct comparison / H2H record

Eintracht Frankfurt certainly have a rich history in European competitions. To date, however, there have only been three matches against Greek clubs on the programme. In those, Eintracht have fared slightly better than their Greek counterparts, winning 2-1. The Hessians have never played against Olympiakos Piraeus.

The Greeks, on the other hand, have played far more games against German clubs. In 18 duels, they have won five times. Olympiakos have played seven German teams and only managed a positive record against Werder Bremen and Hertha BSC. The only victory on German soil therefore also came in October 2007 in a 3-1 win at Bremen’s Weserstadion.

Frankfurt – Olympiakos Piraeus Tip

We will be surprised on Thursday what performance Eintracht Frankfurt will bring. However, we completely disagree with the bookmakers as far as the favourites in this match are concerned. Frankfurt may have made a splash internationally in recent years, but it is the Greeks who have earned a reputation as a top international team.

Moreover, Olympiakos is in very good shape. There has been no defeat for eleven games. Six of the last seven games were won. The Hessians, on the other hand, have only won two of their last eleven competitive matches. Therefore, our impulse is still to place a bet on a victory for the visitors between Frankfurt and Olympiakos Piraeus.

Looking at the quotes, betting on a Greek win obviously involves some risk. If you want, you can reduce this somewhat with Draw-No-Bet or the double chance X2. However, we have decided to play the betting odds on a success for the visitors between Frankfurt and Olympiakos Piraeus.
