Rhein-Main-Derby with many goals?

On Saturday afternoon it’s time for the Rhein-Main-Derby! Frankfurt and Mainz face each other at Deutsche Bank Park from 15:30. According to the odds, the slight advantage is on the side of the home side, who have been in very strong form lately, winning in Mönchengladbach during the week and even climbing to seventh position thanks to their terrific mid-season spurt.

At the weekend, Eintracht finally have it in their own hands to spend the winter in a European Cup place. Should the prediction of a home win between Frankfurt and Mainz pay off, the SGE would move past the Rheinhessen, who are currently still level on points, in the standings. For this scenario, a 2.35 is currently offered at the top.

At first glance, the odds on one or the other goal are also interesting. Although everything points to a competitive match at eye level, both teams have been so good offensively lately that they can go into the derby with self-confidence and a broad chest. In our eyes, it is therefore very conceivable that both Frankfurt and Mainz will score at least one goal in the direct duel.

Frankfurt – Statistics & current form

Just a few weeks ago, Frankfurt Eintracht’s season had to be considered a disappointment. The Eagles were lagging behind their own expectations and it seemed as if the new coach Oliver Glasner had not yet found the right adjustment screws.

In the meantime, however, the tide has turned: The SGE is one of the best-formed teams in the Bundesliga, having won five of its last six league games and lost only one match since 25 October. In terms of the table, the Hessians have fought their way out of the cellar and have now already climbed up to seventh place. In order to end the first half of the year on a positive note, also due to the group win in the Europa League, the home strength should come into play once again on Saturday.

Frankfurt with 15 points from last six games

In the calendar year 2021, the Black-Red-Whites lost only one Bundesliga home match. Instead, there were eleven victories – the most since 2000 (twelve). The last three games in front of the home crowd also showed the enormous power of the fans in attendance. First, against runners-up RB Leipzig, the equaliser was scored in the last second for a final score of 1:1. Then Union Berlin (2:1) and Bayer Leverkusen (3:2) were defeated. There was never a lack of entertainment, spectacle and goals.

However, because Frankfurt have not won the last first-round match of a season for five years now, the prediction on a home win between Frankfurt and Mainz is justifiable, but not our first choice. The odds on both teams scoring are probably more exciting. This bet would not have gone through in only three of 16 SGE games in 2021/22. At home, in fact, in only one of seven cases.

One of Oliver Glasner’s recipes for success in recent weeks has definitely been the well-rehearsed first eleven, which has been changed from game to game in one or two positions at the most. On Saturday, we again expect few changes in the starting line-up. For the injured Jakic, Rode could slide into the team. The suspended Tuta will be replaced by Hinteregger. On the offensive side, the Austrian coach trusts in Rafael Borré, who has been getting better and better lately.

Predicted Frankfurt line-up:
Trapp – Hinteregger, Hasebe, Ndicka – Sow, Rode – Chandler, Lindström, Kamada, Kostic – Borré

12/15 2021 – Borussia Mönchengladbach 2 – 3 Eintracht Frankfurt

Mainz – Statistics & current form

Three points for coach Bo Svensson’s team came at home against Hertha last week, which they won 4:0.

Now, from FSV’s point of view, it is a matter of bringing more consistency into their own performances away from home. With a record of two wins, no draws and five defeats, the record away from home is not even close to the strong performance at home. Consequently, it is difficult for us to offer odds on an away coup for the Rheinhessen side between Frankfurt and Mainz.

Does Mainz show their away face?

Among other things, because Mainz even top a negative listed in the Eintracht record. While their upcoming opponents have failed to win on matchday 17 for five seasons in a row, FSV have even been waiting for a three-pointer on the last matchday of the Hinrunde for seven games. For the aforementioned reasons, the third away defeat in a row is looming – for the first time under Bo Svensson, by the way.

However, because the Red and Whites have made a good impression throughout the season, are currently in sixth place and are playing their best calendar year – in terms of victories – since 2010 under their Danish coach, we are nevertheless turning to the goal market and predicting an encounter in which both teams will score. In no less than eight of the last ten Bundesliga matches with FSV participation, the “BTS” would have paid off. Since 25 September, Onisiwo, Burkhardt and Co. have not been without a goal of their own in the top flight.

Kohr, Lucoqui and St. Juste are missing due to injury. Otherwise, however, all the men are on board, including the aforementioned offensive aces. Onisiwo was involved in four of Mainz’s last five goals against Frankfurt (two goals, two assists). Meanwhile, U21 national team captain Burkardt is playing a sensational season anyway, which should have catapulted him to the top of many notepads of German top teams.

Predicted line-up of Mainz:
Zentner – Bell, Hack, Niakhaté – Widmer, Stach, Aaron – Barreiro, J.-S. Lee – Burkardt, Onisiwo

Last matches played by Mainz:

1st Bundesliga
12/14 2021 – Mainz 05 4 – 0 Hertha Berlin

12/11 2021 – Bayern Munich 2 – 1 Mainz 05

12/04 2021 – Mainz 05 3 – 0 Vfl Wolfsburg

11/26 2021 – VfB Stuttgart 2 – 1 Mainz 05

11/21 2021 – Mainz 05 1 – 1 1. FC Köln

Frankfurt – Mainz Direct Comparison / H2H Balance

For the 27th time the Rhein-Main-Derby takes place in the Bundesliga. The majority of the previous encounters (ten matches) have ended in a draw. Frankfurt have had the upper hand in seven games; Mainz have even celebrated nine victories. Of the last three guest appearances in the financial metropolis, the Nullfünfer have not lost a single one. In the pre-season, the neighbours (geographically and in the standings) parted with a 1-1 draw in Frankfurt. In Mainz, the SGE won 2-0.

Frankfurt – Mainz Tip

The seventh in the table receives the sixth. Two in-form teams face each other in a derby on Saturday afternoon. Frankfurt will meet Mainz. The betting odds suggest that the hosts are the favourites, having picked up 15 points from their last six games and are currently – together with TSG Hoffenheim – the team of the moment in the Bundesliga.

Now, however, FSV Mainz await an opponent whose record in the 2021/22 season is also very good. Away from home, however, Svensson’s team has already suffered five defeats, which is why we are rather sceptical about a bet on double chance X2 or an away win. The home treble therefore remains the preferred choice in the three-way market.

However, we suspect the most appealing value between Frankfurt and Mainz in the tip on “Both score”. In 13 of 16 first-round matches, the “BTS” would have gone through in games involving SGE. Mainz, meanwhile, have scored in every Bundesliga match since mid-September.

If you want to combine our two tendencies, Bet365 offers a 4.33 for a home win & goals on both sides. Also Bwin offers a so-called betting configurator, with which corresponding markets can be put together perfectly.
