New hope for the bottom-placed team?

Eight away games in a row Levante UD have lost in La Liga, with the Granotes failing to score a goal of their own in four consecutive games. Then, however, the bottom team burst into life last Wednesday at defending champions Atlético Madrid, of all places. The Valencia side celebrated a 1-0 away win at the Rojiblancos.

Now the last-placed team in the table plays host to Galicia, who are certainly vulnerable in their own stadium. The Celestes have lost six of their twelve league games at home in Abanca Balaídos and are only 17th in the home table. Nevertheless, in the run-up to the clash between Celta Vigo and Levante, the odds are clearly in favour of the home side.

Despite their poor home record, the Celestes are favourites against the bottom team in La Liga. However, in view of the Granotes’ recent victory at Atlético Madrid, the visiting team should not be written off too hastily.

Also because the bet on a point win for the Valencians cannot be ruled out for Celta Vigo against Levante, we prefer the bet that less than 2.5 goals will be scored. By the way, the corresponding odds are rarely set in stone. Every now and then, bookmakers offer a so-called odds boost.

Celta Vigo – Statistics & current form

The Real Club Celta de Vigo is still waiting for the first major title in the club’s history. The Celestes have reached the final of the Copa del Rey four times, but have always lost. Even their progress to the semi-finals of the Europa League in 2016/17 did not bring any resounding success.

In the eternal table of La Liga, the showpiece club from Galicia nevertheless occupies eleventh place without ever having won the championship. Currently, the Célticos have been playing in the first division without interruption since 2012.

Only one defeat in last eight league games

In Eduardo Coudet’s second year in charge, however, the Galicians once again fail to rise above mediocrity. After finishing eighth in the final table of 2021, they are at least eight points off a European starting spot after 24 games played in a table that is still somewhat distorted after many shifts.

Accordingly, nothing should be left undone, especially in games like the home match against the team at the bottom of the table. The momentum is definitely in favour of the Celestes, who have only lost one of their last eight league games (four wins, three draws).

The sixth best defence in La Liga

Problematic, meanwhile, is the home record. At the Abanca Balaídos, the Célticos lost half of all league games played (six out of twelve) and thus occupy just 17th place in the home table.

On the other hand, the Galicians’ defence is impressive, conceding only 25 goals in 24 league games. However, the game against the current second-last-place team, Cádiz, ended in a 0-0 draw. Accordingly, betting on less than 2.5 goals offers a lot of value for Celta Vigo against Levante.

Levante – Statistics & current form

Levante Unión Deportiva are currently in their 16th season in Spain’s top flight. The Valencia-based club has been consistently represented in La Liga since 2017, but is currently neck and neck in the relegation battle.

The Granotes have picked up just 14 points from their 24 league games so far, which has increased the gap between them and the relegation zone to ten points. The situation is correspondingly complicated for the team of Alessio Lisci, who took over as coach on the Spanish east coast at the beginning of December.

Won two of last five league games

Aparticularly away from home, Unión Deportiva have not been able to get anything going lately. Levante lost eight away games in a row and failed to score four away goals in a row when they faced Atlético Madrid last Wednesday.

A match that Lisci’s side surprisingly won 1-0 thanks to a golden goal from Gonzalo Melero, giving the Granotes new hope in the relegation battle. After all, the only two trebles the Valencians have managed to score in their 24 league games so far have come in their last five games.

Have conceded 50 goals in 24 league games

However, Alessio Lisci must continue to work very meticulously on his team’s patchy defence, which has gone without conceding a goal in two of its last five league games but is La Liga’s shooting gallery overall with 50 goals conceded from 24 league games.

With this in mind, the Granotes will travel to the Abanca Balaídos as underdogs, where they also lost their last away match 2-0 on 30 April 2021.

Predicted line-up of Levante:
Cárdenas – Son – Cáceres – Duarte – Pier – Miramón – Bardhi – Pepelu – Melero – Martí – de Frutos

Celta Vigo – Levante Direct Comparison / H2H Balance

Head to head: 14 – 7 – 6

There have been a total of 27 meetings between the two teams so far and with 14 wins, more than 50% of all duels have gone to the Celestes, who also won the first leg 2-0 in Valencia.

Celta Vigo – Levante Tip

In principle, the prediction for Celta Vigo against Levante already goes in the direction of the Galician home side. However, the Celestes have been very vulnerable in their own stadium with six defeats from the twelve home games so far, while the guests from the Spanish east coast are doing better again late in the season with two wins among the last five league games and have gained new hope.

The three-way system is accordingly complicated for this match, in which we expect the visitors, who have conceded 50 goals but kept a clean sheet in two of their last five league games, to be very defensive. Also because the Celestes sometimes lacked penetrating power, there is a lot to be said for a low-scoring game with a maximum of two goals. Even in the last three meetings between the two teams, there were never more than two goals scored.
