Bottom receives top!

The start of the season could not have been more different. For the hosts, alarm bells are ringing. With the guests, the start has finally not been slept through again. Despite this difference, Celta Vigo vs Atletico Madrid betting odds show surprisingly low swing.

The starting position is quite clear in itself. The squad of the capitals is worth roughly four times. The only thing that probably balances the point is the coaches. On the whole, a win for the weakening hosts is seen as a big surprise. That’s why Celta Vigo is considered a clear underdog against Atletico Madrid in the forecasts.

What is probably the biggest factor in the assessment is the season so far. The hosts are vegetating in a relegation spot. After nine games, that’s not a disaster yet, but it’s not a good sign either. Knowing this, bettors are heading towards the capital with their odds on Celta Vigo vs Atletico Madrid.

Celta Vigo – Statistics & current form

It was all planned quite differently. It should go up again with the sky blue. Instead, they are stuck in the “red zone” of the table. With a victory, the line could be jumped, but it needs a clear improvement.

Homesickness?

One of the central problems of the season so far has been the performances at home. In the first five appearances there were two draws and three defeats with 3:7 goals. Optimists see that three defeats were followed by two draws, so the form curve is pointing upward. Pessimists, however, look at the opponents.

At the beginning there was a 0:2 against Osasuna, followed by a 0:1 against Real. These results were not completely surprising in that sense. However, the 0:1 against Mallorca then revealed the first cracks in the facade. Combined with a 1-1 against Alaves and a 2-2 against Getafe, the results look weak.

A big problem in this context seems to be the offense. While seven goals conceded in five games is quite lush, it’s the three goals scored in particular that make you sit up and take notice. In the defeats, the team failed to score at all. The point against Alaves (eight goals conceded in five games), however, does cast doubt on the attack department.

Countered?

A look at the away table makes the problem even more precise. In four away games, the northern Spaniards reaped four points, with 7:8 goals. Interestingly, they scored in every game, regardless of the outcome. So the squad can’t crack a standing defense.

In the draw against San Sebastian (1:1) and the win at Almeria (3:2), the counterattacking situations were used ice-cold. Even in the 2:3 at Barca and the 1:2 at Las Palmas, chances were taken. However, this was not played, but reacted.

This is quite legitimate, but it also shows the problems in the build-up. In the defeat at the Canaries, they were clearly outclassed. The late 1:2 deceives a little about the course of the game. It was clear that possession was low against Barca. But the fact that Las Palmas distributed a total of 74% over the game should give pause for thought.

Rafa Benitez, a big name, has been entrusted with solving this problem. Since his appointment, however, as seen little runs together. The first voices for his replacement are already being raised.

Games like the one against Atleti will probably be decisive. In terms of approach, it would be a classic counterattack. But for that to happen, the shooters would have to provide proof of their work. But many doubt this. For most pundits, Celta Vigo is at a clear disadvantage against Atletico Madrid in the tips.

Atletico Madrid – statistics & current form

The Colchoneros have finally broken with tradition. They did not sleep through the start of the season. Unfortunately, that was not always the case in the past. Often the race for the championship was already over before it had begun. This time, however, there seems to be a somewhat closer battle in the offing.

Back for good

One of the biggest differences from the past is the offensive output. That Diego Simeone’s squad is hard to crack defensively is nothing new. But the fact that they are so offensively strong is new.

At the same time, very little has changed in the attacking department. The forward line includes Antoine Griezmann, Álvaro Morata and Memphis Depay. This was already the case last year. In addition, even the former wunderkind João Félix went off the board. In return, the loan of the Frenchman has now been converted into a fixed commitment.

This certainty seems to have done the Goalgetter and thus also his environment good. Griezmann seems noticeably more lively and aggressive than in the previous season. Not only has he already scored four goals. His pressure in the counter-pressing makes Atleti appear a lot more poisonous than in the previous season.

Mental Revival

This difference is especially noticeable when looking at the games. If Atleti had pomaded performances again and again in the past years, these are missing this year almost completely. Only in the 0:3 in Valencia did the red and whites look bad. However, this was publicly confirmed by everyone involved after the game.

Now this could have led to a drop in the past seasons. But then Atleti showed a different face. In the next game, Real was sent home with 3:1. Especially the first 25 minutes were in phases a dismantling of the Merengues.

The tempo could not be kept up, which brought the Blancos back into the game. In the end, however, everyone agreed that Atletico deserved to win. Only efficiency prevented a higher success.

This also shows the only problematic part of the season so far. Often too much is left lying around. With a bit of luck, Real could have turned around a game they thought they had lost, because the hosts’ chances went unused. So if it is to be something with a title, then in addition to the toxicity, the concentration from the past must return.

Predicted lineup of Atletico Madrid:

Celta Vigo – Atletico Madrid Direct comparison / H2H balance

The meetings between the two clubs have been a fairly clear-cut event in the recent past. Atleti have currently won five of their last six games. In total, it was six wins in the last ten games.

In the comparison period, Celta managed to win once. That was a 2-0 in 2018, while the preseason saw a 1-0 in Galicia and a 4-1 in Madrid. So it’s no wonder that when it comes to Celta Vigo vs Atletico Madrid, most predictions are for a similar outcome.

Celta Vigo – Atletico Madrid tip

On paper, the gap between the two is a relatively large one. In the games so far, this has also been evident on the field. Celta’s only three-goal win so far dates from the beginning of September.

It is very unlikely that another one will come against the Colchoneros. For Celta Vigo against Atletico Madrid, the odds are in favor of a transfer of points to the center of the country.

Looking at the performances so far, we also subscribe to that. For us, Celta Vigo vs Atletico Madrid tip 2 is the better choice. The strong start of the hosts in combination with the weakening defense of the hosts offers an Over/Under bet.
